Marza Studios(formerly known as VE Animation Studios) is Japan-based CGI animation studio formed by Sega Sammy Holdings.

While they are currently known as SEGA's main CGI group for their games, recently they have become dedicated to making full-length feature films such as Space Pirate Captain Harlock, the upcoming movie titled Robodog, & now it has been announced that they are going to produce the CGI in the Sonic The Hedgehog movie.

Most of you are familiar with the amazing CG videos they have produced for the Sonic series:

What are your thoughts on this studio?

Sorry. I can't see text using Taptalk.

This doesn't really add to discussion.

If you can at least see the videos, try and discuss them. If you can't see either, I'd suggest not posting in the topic until you have access to a computer and can give a proper response.

The Captain Harlock movie was mostly the usual modern Japanese sci-fi movie trite like something almost out of Final Fantasy story-wise, but it's absolutely a must-see for the part Marza actually did- the animating. Amazing stuff.

Yeah, everything I've seen from them at this point has been nothing short of spectacular animation wise. Re-watching some of these videos is actually kind of getting me even more bummed that this Sonic movie isn't going to be full CGI. That could of looked absolutely gorgeous!

I have to say that Marza's CGI for the Sonic games is right up there with Square Enix's amazing work on Kingdom Hearts and the recent Final Fantasy games; lots of detail, expressive animation and near Pixar quality visuals. It's great they're working on the visuals for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, I just hope it's not just the CGI that's going to be great.

Btw, what about the guys who made the cutscenes for ShtH and Sonic 06? I thought their CGI stuff was impressive too.

While we're on that note, let me talk about the guys who did Sonic Riders' CGi cutscenes:

Creepy Tails and bad voice acting aside, I really like the texture and soft lighting on the characters. It feels a lot nicer than the kinda stiff, keratin texture the cast has been given recently. Oh, and if you look at Sonic's muzzle, you can sort of make out it's got a sort of light fluffy chenille texture.Nice.

The cast are all stubly expressive without distorting the character, and there's a nice weight to Sonic's boots when he walks or bounces face down on the ground.

To avoid deviating to far from the topic at hand , I'm just going to say this is one of my favourite CGI Cutscenes Marza have done:

http://youtu.be/fyN82PjVZrA?t=8s

Sonic's reactions. His expressions. It's a short clip, but beautifully condensed. It shows Sonic's concern, and sheer determination. I LOVE this cutscene. Sure, the ending scene gets all the hype, but personally, I think this short little scene deserves just as much credit.

I know Marza made the CG for Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, maybe it's the same people.

The group was actually formed in 2003, they could have done CG for the Sonic games after that.

This is strange.

So I made a quick visit to Marza's website when this caught my eye:

Never thought they would do something for Nintendo. 0_o

I've been playing Colors and everytime I start the game I just have to watch the opening again and again. It just clicks so well with me, the graphics, the animation, the details, the music, what it depicts... The movie could have been so much, and I want to believe it still can, I just want more of this.

I just checked out Marza's page as well and I can't stop watching some of the videos. I'm not sure if it's because of Sonic, because of the animations, or both, but I just can't look away. I think it's things like this that make me stay with the franchise and regain any faith lost. Talk about hook, line, and sinker...

... I'm gonna go watch the videos again now.

Before I say anything I am the one who created this topic however I can't retrieve my old account due to complicated reasons.

Anyways, Marza upload two demo reels for 2014 and 2015:

The 2015 one caught my eye for one reason: Robodog

For those that don't know Robodog is Marza's personal movie project that was supposed to release in 2015 however it wasn't. In fact, this is the first time we see any footage of it and it brings me joy but also despair.

The reason why is the very fact that it was included in a demo reel in the first place. I doubt they would add it here before even releasing a trailer for it plus this is on YouTube for anyone to see, not hidden for private viewing only.

I have a feeling that it's been cancelled but I hope I'm wrong though.

Then again, in one of last year's press release of the Holding it's mentioned the abortion of a project of an animated film that was at that time already in production.

I was really surprised to see the Robodog footage, and I certainly hope it isn't dead and this demo reel footage wasn't all that was complete. Ever since I've heard about Marza making a family movie, I've been eagerly anticipating it's release.

Well, it's been a while but considering Marza is starting to expand on their projects outside of SEGA, I think it's a good time to bring this topic back.

First, "The Gift":

This short is a demo of "Marza's Movie Pipeline" that uses the Unity engine to produce CG quality rendering. Here's another video Marza made explaining it in more detail:

Resident Evil/Biohazard - Vendetta:

The latest animated film based on Capcom's Resident Evil/Biohazard franchise.

Sonic The Hedgehog Live Action/CG Hybrid Movie:

We all know this one but might as well add it here. Nothing has been shown yet so moving on.

And last but not least...

ROBODOG:

It's safe to say with confidence that, unfortunately, this movie has been cancelled. However, as someone who was looking forward to the film, I took it upon myself to compile a video of short clips from the movie so y'all can see. We may never see the full movie, but at the very least we can enjoy this short video I made and give it a proper farewell!
