My Fan level: Sonic on the Moon!

Hi guys, I'm not particularly confident with my artistic abilities (complete amateur) but I've wanted to make a Sonic fan level for years so I've been practicing (a little) and I've come up with this so far! Sprites entirely by me, other than Sonic obviously .  The art is very rough and I know it could be way better! It's using the fantastic Sonic Worlds engine if anyone is wondering.

 

 

 

Now if anyone is wondering why I'm posting this, it's not because I'm showing off (far from it) but because I want some feedback on if people think this is worth pursuing! I'm not planning to be the next FakeLeperd of anything, I'm probably just going to make this one fan level .

 

Any feedback would be awesome!

The level is the moon . It was originally going to be moonlit, which is why there is a random moon in the background. I'll probably change it to a sun or something.

 

Do you have any ideas of what you would change?

Right now it's grey and repetitive. Very, very grey and very, very repetitive. Even though that's what the moon is in reality, you could probably do more with the tiles to make it look more creative.

Try adding some craters (as a background) and some stars (to make look like Sonics in space).

Try adding Sonic's homeworld Mobius in the background.

I agree that the level was way too grey. So Shazam?

 

 

Is this any good? It's at least a starting point for me. The background is a real work in progress so please ignore it. I'm trying to think of cool gimmicks for my level. I have an idea of craters where wind blow out of and have sonic flying around. Kind of like the fans in other levels. Anyone have other ideas?

This is definitely worth pursuing IMO. Cool idea.

 

The second one is an improvement over the first, and I like how it's more colorful, but maybe it's just too colorful now? idk, try changing the color of the yellow moons maybe.

 

Also, what are you going to name it? Just "Moon Zone"?

I've been working on the level and the art is shaping up like this:

 

 

It's not really the most exciting stuff in the world but eh, I'm not an artist.

 

The level design is pretty interesting though. I'm trying to make something grandiose like Sonic 3 but it's really hard to do that without making the level really convoluted.

I'm trying to think of some fun Moony Gimmicks to put in my level. Anyone have anything to chip in with?

Try adding water physics to your stage, to simulate the low gravity on the moon.
