    • Welcome To Your New-Look SSMB!   07/11/15

Hello! You might have noticed that this place has changed a little bit since you last saw it. Welcome to the Sonic Stadium Message Board - 2015 Edition! The moderators, Bmn and myself have been working really hard these last few weeks to make sure the upgrade from IPB 3 to IPB4 was as seamless as possible, whilst also taking the opportunity to update the look and feel of The Sonic Stadium in a modern way. So there are a whole bunch of technical things that have changed, as well as cosmetic changes that relate to how the forum works. You'll see your username above the main content area: click that and a dropdown menu will appear containing most of the options you need to work your profile. Next to your username are a bunch of quick icons that take you to Notifications and Direct Messages. In the blue bar underneath the header, you'll see an 'SSMB' link on the far right (next to the search button), hover your mouse over that and you'll see different sections of the forum, like Calendar and Forum Staff pages etc. Posting replies is simpler than ever, and a lot of the bugs that have been prevalent in the forum this past year have been squashed. (Needless to say though, that if you're seeing anything that's a bit wonky, do post in the Member Feedback/Bug Reports forum, as it will help us troubleshoot stuff!) The cosmetic changes are part and parcel of a wider initiative by myself to reinvent The Sonic Stadium in 2015. Did you know that this plucky little website will be 15 years old in October? It's been through an awful lot, and with the changing habits of forum goers and website readers alike I've been spending a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to present the site (and forum) in a way that makes sense for everyone in today's era. That's why you see a chop-and-change of some of the forum listings on the homepage - SSMB has been re-organised so that discussion is at the top of the list, and the more popular forums are front and center so you can access them much more easily. Needless to say, SSMB's butterfly change into this current form is a prelude to what will soon happen on The Sonic Stadium itself, later this year - a lot more housecleaning is needed on the main site yet, before I can fully unleash the revamped design. Either way, I hope you like this new look and functionality, and are looking forward to what's coming soon! As this is brand new forum software, there will naturally be some elements that haven't crossed over to this new SSMB immediately - namely Badges. We are working hard to get these back, don't worry. They're not lost forever! We're working on a way of getting them back to you.  Stay tuned on that front! You can comment on this news in the topics situated in the Announcements forum, here.

I wouldn't be surprised if SEGA writes off the Wii U barring an Olympics title for a few years, honestly. The chain of disasters is evidence enough that there just isn't enough of an install base for Sonic on it.

Asked Iizuka on Facebook if Sonic Team is making it, but got this response:

Yeah, I saw your post about the initial query, so I thought I'd message him and see if I get a similar result or more. Unfortunately, he's not saying much.

I feel like it's a bit prying to try to bother Iizuka about this kind of stuff. Bothering the guy about these sorts of things is probably not what he looks forward to when expecting fan messages on FB. :V

But at least we've got a confirmation it's a thing?

And it's apparently not a Sonic Team game?

I am in this weird position where I SHOULD be disappointed its not being developed by them but it's not like Sonic Team is of any high pedigree to begin with but I mean we just got a non Sonic Team game in last year and look how that turned out.....

So....ill just wait for whatever it is XP

Ugh, so either a spin off title not being made by Sonic Team (ala Boom RoL) or a mobile title AGAIN.

2015: the year of mobile games.

I'm not sure what to think yet. First he says the game isn't being made by them, but the second time around he says he can't comment at all. I'm torn on whether or not the first statement was a simple lie since he obviously isn't going to disclose any real information about unannounced work.

If it's not by Sonic Team, it's probably not a platformer. If I remember correctly, Big Red Button, Sanzaru, Sonic Team, and Dimps are the only developers Sonic had that did platformer say in the series. All other developers that worked on the series did games that were other genres.

You know, I wasn't ready to believe this at first, but the follow up really makes this seem like a thing.

I actually wonder if it has anything at all to do with runners.

You Sonic fans! Leave mah Iizuka alone!

Yeaaahhhh... he really is in a catch 22.

On the one hand, he's not going to admit anything, on the other, he can't say no for some reason.

I guess it's that, if they say no, then it turns out they are, it opens them up to 'well they said no before and look what happened!' kind of arguments and criticism. They can only say no, when it really is no.

Though I do wonder if there is some language barrier problems here, saying 'not developed by us' is a very specific thing to say, vs please wait for announcement.

Hes disclosing what he can, that its not being made by them (Sonic Team) and its a thing that exists. so 1 can assume what it could be based on that information and it only leads to 2 routes which I said above.

I don't know I'm glad he confirmed its a thing but I think bugging Iizuka will get nowhere, hes under NDA just like everyone else prodding him on FB isn't gonna help were just gonna have to wait it out like always.

But expect a mobile title.

People are allowed to deny work that isn't made by them while still adhering to NDAs on what an unannounced work contains.

I really hope it's a brand new game by Dimps. It's been almost a decade since Rush Adventure and I'd like to see them do their own Sonic game as opposed to making more handheld versions of console games.

Ah, this is all sooo interesting.

I'm glad we can confirm its... Something... But until the announcement, all we can do is speculate.

Although I must say, I know this is a ridiculous thing, but do you think, just maybe, it has something to do with this?

Jesus christ, please tell me that you're joking. After the fail of the Boom Franchise you'd think that they would make an "HD" version on 3DS?

What controller is he holding in the pic. It looks like a Dreamcast controller.

Well I tried.

I mean... I don't know. After Sega pulled the reveal trailer of RoL, off YouTube it just seems... at most plausible.

You can't rule it out. It may be stupid, but Sega isn't known for the smartest of decisions. Sega may still want to attempt at making an at least mediocre Boom game. They made very dumb decisions on the conditions of the development of RoL, who's to say they didnt realize their mistakes and not want it all to go to waste?

...

Oh who am I kidding.

Also, sorry for the duplicate posting. It's been happening since the server errors have been appearing.

The regular Saturn controller didn't have an analog stick so they made a special one for the game NiGHTS Into Dreams to achieve better controls in an 3D environment.

Um, no? Traveller's Tales' Sonic 3D Blast was an isometric platformer. The Backbone Entertainment-developed Rivals games are also platformers, albeit racing-oriented. SNK's Pocket Adventure, and by extension almost all of the GG/SMS Sonic games, were also platformers too.

Pocket Adventure was developed by Dimps, from what I recall.

I get the feeling it might be another Sumo game. Probably a racing title?

I'd rather an on-foot racing game at this point over cars again, though.

It wasn't. Contrary to what several sources claim, SNK developed Pocket Adventure, not Dimps. The only reason Dimps keeps being cited as the developer (I assume) is because most of the SNK staff who worked on Pocket Adventure were among those who left SNK to found Dimps and later develop Sonic Advance.

WAIT, THIS MAKES PERFECT SENSE!!

I mean for one, the name, seems to suit it. But back a few months ago I believe, Sumo teased they were giving out a big suprise... Later they gave away some signed copes if ASR (I think).

But surely they've had something else "under the hood."  ;)

...

No, nobody? Okay.
