And so does Johnny Thunder(thumbs up to you old nintendo fans)

So Lego worlds, was kinda leaked last week, but the Early Access dropped today. I'll just let the trailer and steam description give you the basics, then I'll give my thoughts

https://youtu.be/IMcVAXjBimg

EXPLORE. DISCOVER. CREATE.

LEGO® Worlds is a galaxy of procedurally-generated Worlds made entirely of LEGO bricks which you can freely manipulate and dynamically populate with LEGO models. Explore each World and unlock new discoveries: from cowboys and giraffes to vampires and polar bears, to steamrollers, race cars, and colossal digging machines! Use the multi-tool to shape environments and alter any World to your liking: raise the terrain to create vast mountain ranges, or enter the Brick-by-Brick editor to build anything you can imagine. Save your creations to build with them again. LEGO Worlds enables you to populate your Worlds with many weird and wonderful characters, creatures, models, and driveable vehicles, and then play out your own unique adventures. Probably not worth upsetting the Skeletons though…

LEGO Worlds is currently in Early Access, so be sure to keep coming back for news on updates and plans for future development, as well as discussions with the people behind the scenes.

Explore and Discover the Surprises within LEGO Worlds
• Uncover hidden treasures in environments that range from the fun to the fantastical.
• Make your worlds come to life with customizable characters, both friendly and fearsome
• Race, soar, zoom, and ride on a variety of vehicles and creatures from diggers and helicopters to horses and dragons

Create and Customize your own LEGO World
• Build any world you can imagine using the brick-by-brick editor tool and prefabricated LEGO structures
• Modify terrain quickly and easily with the multi-tool.
• Customize your characters in a wide variety of outfits and options.
• Play with a select number of real-life LEGO sets, taken from the Classic and current LEGO themes!
• Export your creations and save them to use again.

Expand your LEGO World
• More content, features, and new LEGO play sets to be added in future updates.

Why Early Access?
“LEGO Worlds will be a fully open-world, creativity-driven game so we want to ensure that we provide it with the utmost care and attention as we expand on our ideas. So much of this game will be about building and sharing and by sharing our plans with the community, we hope to incorporate their feedback and build an experience together that fans of LEGO and this genre of video games can enjoy.”
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“The current plan for LEGO Worlds is to be in Early Access through 2015 at which point we hope to have our full list of features in place. We’ll evaluate a release candidate in early 2016, but we won’t consider the game complete and ready for release until we believe our community feels we have delivered a great game.”
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“We plan to add the following features through a series of regular updates:

 Like/Dislike system for tailoring World Generation
 Procedurally Generated Underground Cave Networks
 LEGO ID integration to allow for sharing and uploading of in-game builds
 Additional Biomes
 Painting Themes
 Pre-Generated Towns/Villages/Settlements relevant to the Biome
 Updated AI Behaviors to provide organic feeling to free-roaming creatures and characters
 Red Brick Extras
 Full liquid behaviors
 Additional Minifigure Characters and Creatures
 Additional Vehicles and Pre-Built Models
 Additional Weapons
 Cut/Copy/Paste chunks of landscape
 Underwater Gameplay (including Vehicles, Creatures and additional sea life)
 Character Customizer
 Online Multiplayer”
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“The Early Access build currently features:

 Procedurally Generated Worlds
 Terrforming and Building tools
 Discoveries and Unlocks
 Rideable Creatures and Vehicles
 Day/Night Cycle”
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“Yes, the game will be available at a reduced price during Early Access”
How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“We’ll be actively monitoring the Community Hub here on STEAM and look forward to feedback and suggestions for the game. We'll also be offering people a chance to experience the Development of a LEGO title for the first time, and several members of the team will be providing some interesting dev diaries over the coming months.”

Needless to say looks a little rough at the moment, but is pretty awesome, whatever you encounter you can build(and for the most part ride, even polar bears and huskys), using bricks and studs you collect

People are saying this is lego's counter to minecraft, but personally I see it as a successor and evolution of the old Lego Creator games(city, medieval) that predate minecraft, and Lego Universe(that failed for a single pretty big problem). Looks like it could be fun, and at the current price point of $15 and a constantly developing and building game, I'm probably going to give in later this week myself... Also I'm not the only one who saw Johnny thunder in the trailer, am I?

A small, but cool update from neogaf(that I'm assuming is from the steam discussion forum), in regards to modding

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=166043650&postcount=178

Regarding mods

Hi,

We're looking into the exploration of Mods down the line. For sake of quality controls it's not something we're looking to run straight away, as we want to make sure everything that is meant to be functioning is doing it's job/solved.

However, we do have the ability in place to let you add any Models that you create in the LEGO Digital Designer;

http://ldd.lego.com/

Install you're LXFML model files into this directory;

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment\LEGO Worlds\Mods\Models

In fact, you can also load any of your exported models into this tool too!

NOTE: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP THIS FOLDER FIRST THOUGH, JUST IN CASE!

So no mod support yet, but you can add whatever you want using Lego Digital Designer, which is siiiicccckkkkkk

So, bought it. It's actually quite a good little game. Only started one world so far, and am impressed with how easy building things is.

Can't wait to see what comes next.

I loved Lego Creator back as a kid. Can't get it running anymore on my current computer, but I remember building with that thing till my computer nearly froze out of strain from the creations. After my computer just couldn't take it anymore, (I had a really trashy computer, okay? :U) I moved on to LDD, but it just wasn't the same. It was waaay more technical and I could build way more complex creations with it than in Lego Creator, but it was all in a vacuum. I could never build my creations in an actual world anymore, and that took a lot of fun out of building digitally for me. Later on it just felt too complex to create anything worthwhile and I just abandoned LDD for the real deal in the end.

Fast forward to 2009, when I got my first game systems and finally had the chance to play the more modern Lego games. The Lego Indiana Jones games were the first to be gotten on my list, and overall I really enjoyed them, with their cool levels and fun-to-find collectables. It even had a building mode in the second game, which I used to an extent. Cant do much with a top-down view, though. Still, it was a neat addition.

As soon as I started to buy and play the rest of the games, though, a lot of the original appeal wore off and I started to see how little the series actually evolves from game to game. Lego City Undercover was pretty cool, because it's open world lends itself to the whole collectable formula so well, but other than that it felt like they were just going through the motions making games because Lego said so. That, and they became the only form of digital Lego entertainment put out, as the rest of Lego Media just stopped making games at the same time as they came in. So suffice it to say, I've been pretty disappointed when the games centered around the best building block ever created, are actually more focused on breaking and passing them by than building. :\

But this... this looks like a dream come true. A huge world made entirely out of legos, customizable and moldable enough to be changed at will? Full LDD system support?! Brick by brick building?!? Enemies to battle?!?! FLYING IN THE AIR, DIGGING UNDERGROUND, AND SWIMMING UNDERWATER IN YOUR OWN VEHICHLES?!?!?!

this-is-beautiful.gif

Obviously it looks really rough, being a beta and all, and yeah, it seems to copy Minecraft a bit more than I'm comfortable with, but... honestly I don't care. I'm ready for this. I'm getting on Steam, making an account and buying this game faster than you can say-

  • OS: Windows 7
  • Processor: AMD or Intel Quad Core running at 2.6GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 or ATI Radeon HD 5850 or better
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Hard Drive: 10 GB available space

...

I need to save up for a new PC.

Finally, someone else remembers lego creator, also, requirements may go down as the game is improved, but it'll take a while. Looks pretty fun to me, but can't get it just yet myself. Also, for anyone with it, can you test and see if it works in Steam offline mode? I currently don't have internet where I live, so if it doesn't work offline I won't be getting it yet

Was actually surprised Johnny Thunder is still relevant(ish).

I must've missed this or something, when did it get leaked? It's different from LEGO Dimensions right?

There was a banner that showed up in a lego set last week, and they released it today. And Totally different and seperate from Lego Dimensions, this is more of a toybox(like the old creator games and minecraft), where you can build whatever you want in the game or in lego digital designer(then add to the game). And yes I remember Johnny Thunder, and the original Miners and Aqua Raiders too... wishing and hoping this game adds in Bionicles, they haven't been in a game forever, and that would be siiiicccckkkkk

Okay, so I bought this today....and it's fantastic. It's everything that a LEGO game should be, and while it's a bit rough around the edges (not surprising since its early access), it was definitely worth the £12 entry fee.

The building mechanics are top notch, and I shit you not....you can ride huskies. That is all.

Polar bears are superior!!! and don't forget to mess around in DLL too, perhaps you could actually build vehicles in that(as far as I have heard you currently can't build vehicles in the game itself), also you could probably get the ECTO-1 that way and the fire house

Holy shit.

That's like the perfect game for the LEGO franchise. Really amazed they hadn't done this earlier. Aaagh I wish I could use the Steam Wallet, I'm going to miss this beauty.

Full version will hopefully be available via other means(and maybe on consoles), this is just a open access alpha really, it won't be complete till next year

Edit: I am heading out, but wanted to mention, here is some footage, its awesome, looks like the default starting characters for Lego worlds are mainly from the old Johnny Thunder lego theme! now there's some nostaglia(and clever choices), hope we get a Rock Raiders Biome, and the diver group too

First off, yes it works in offline mode.

And now - this game surprises me. Not only is it a building game, you can explore and find various things. There's igloos and pagodas that I've found. A plane, even. And hidden boxes give you items like a pistol or binoculars. I'm having fun just exploring, but the building of things is great as well. I built a small racetrack, and even had a drive round it.

There's so much to do in it, and it feels like a LEGO game should, as others have said.

After a few hours with Lego Worlds, I can definitely say that this will probably wind up being a much better sandbox construction game than Minecraft, and already is in many areas. The construction mechanics are basically digital Lego, with a lot more flexibility and options than Minecraft which allows for more intricate and complex structures or objects to be created, and the mechanics were surprisingly easy to learn. There are also terrain tools which allow you to quickly create a flat piece of land or a mountain.

The only things that Minecraft has over it is survival mode, and world maps. Other than that, Minecraft is starting to look a bit old and stale by comparison. While the game is still slightly rough around the edges and is incomplete (which is to be expected with Steam Early Access), it was worth the £12 that I paid for it. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Traveller's Tales have in store, as they have struck gold with what has been established so far.

I don't think this game will ever come close to rivaling Minecraft's core gameplay, really. The way the materials matter in the world, the first person view and combat, the health and energy bar and what they demand from you, and the whole survival element just makes it a lot deeper than this game seems to be.

Everything else, though? If TT can pull it off, it can be lightyears better than what Minecraft has to offer. The building feature is already better, but once more elements are implemented, the world can be so much cooler than what Minecraft generates.

Imagine going down into a cave system, and you find a Power Miners base with a drilling mech waiting to be used? Go under slightly alien territory, and you get Rock Raiders enemies and vehicles. City, a quarry site. And underwater, auqa raiders bases in one corner of a sea, Atlantis in another, and Alpha Team elsewhere! Who knows, they might use the portal system Minecraft uses and allow you to go into space or other dimensions!

Of course this all relies on how much randomly generated structures they're planning on making, but this game is just begging for a Lego Movie-esque set up with it's nearly infinite world. Maybe one could change the amount of structures generated in the options in case you don't want them? I dunno, I'm just spitballing here.

Bionicle, though... now that would be awesome. Dunno how it'd be pulled off, since they're clearly different from minifigures in terms of modeling and quite a few characters aren't simply humanoid, but maybe as a side dimension later on, creating and rigging such action figures would be possible.

Hi everyone, wow seriously we're blown away by all the comments so far! Many of the suggestions are already planned, you'll be pleased to hear. And we're working on fixing as many of the usability issues as we can, as soon as we can.

Right now we're getting organised and sorting all the best new ideas alongside the other features & items that we already have scheduled.

Some of the suggestions are for features that are already in the game, like being able to copy and save things you've build, so we'll be getting some videos done on how some of these things work. Watch out for them coming soon.

We really love to hear your comments, feedback and suggestions so keep them coming we are reading them all.

Go LEGO Worlds!

Content update inbound by the end of the month!

http://steamcommunity.com/app/332310/announcements

 Announcement: Content Update 1 Plans
Hi everyone!

We'd like to share with you some of the details of the first main update for LEGO Worlds.

The major new feature we’re excited to share lets you take your adventures underground…

https://twitter.com/LEGOWorldsGame/status/610588174147043329

…so look for an opening and explore the naturally occurring cave networks looking for more treasures and dangers.

Next, we are adding some fun new characters, creatures, vehicles and props ready to discover in your worlds, though it’s up to you to find them!

We'll also be introducing several Community-requested changes based on the mammoth Feedback thread found on the main discussions page, including;

* Windowed mode.
* Quit to Windows in game.
* Interior props.
* Y-Axis invert for camera look.

Additionally, we hope to resolve several technical issues;

* 32Bit OS random crashes.
* Overall Performance Issues.
* Dual Monitor Launch issues.
* Unable to launch with Parental Controls active on any setting.

Don’t worry if this update doesn't take care of every problem you have with the game – it doesn't mean it’s not important. We read all the comments and are making plans to resolve issues in a balanced way as well as improving the core systems and developing new ones, but this all takes time. We hope to share more details of where things are up to, and we know you’ll be letting us know what you want to know, you know?

Please also note, that in order to better support backwards compatibility moving forwards and further reduce the risk of requiring worlds to be wiped we have made tweaks to save games. This may result in slightly longer than usual load times when re-entering existing worlds for the first time after updating.

Our first title update should drop at the end of June.

Many have asked what our schedule is planned to be over the course of development. Our intentions are to roll out at least one large content update every month, and will look to address bugs on a rolling timeframe as they are needed.

We want to thank you all for your support with LEGO Worlds during it's first few weeks, and we have been overjoyed with the outpouring of positive feedback we've received from the community.

Many Thanks,
TT GAMES

I don't think they will actually add Bionicles, but maybe Bionicles parts. Admittedly, it would be really cool seeing giant Bionicles walking around biomes, I hope they do something like that.

While it would take work, bionicles would work fine in the current engine, they are simply oversized characters with 2 abilities(mask, elemental/inbuilt), a touch more combat, and are still able to build

Kinda hope they sneak Rock Raiders into the update though

The update is supposed to be out by tomorrow, but for now here is something you guys should find interesting, how Lego Worlds came to be

http://steamcommunity.com/app/332310/discussions/0/523890528706280840/

Dev Diary: How it all began

How did LEGO® Worlds happen?

Well, the short answer is that it didn’t happen on a whim or overnight. In fact, it took a while for the planets to align…

Despite the runaway success of our LEGO videogames, we have always been mindful of an occasional commentary bemoaning the lack of player creativity – objectives are fixed, progression is gated, building is scripted, so much smashing and collecting.

But these things give us the framework to tell and have fun with great stories and famous characters. So we layer on co-op, Free Play, hubs and outstanding fan service that we feel allows the player to express themselves within that universe.

In fact, at TT and LEGO we steadfastly believe that creative play comes in different flavours, with the most important ingredient being the feeling of playing with LEGO.

Within that core framework we have always tried to offer new experiences – of particular relevance here are the open world gameplay first seen in LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, and the comprehensive level creator system from LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, which we were always looking to revisit in some way because it had so much unfulfilled potential.

Eventually, it seemed like there was finally an opportunity to put all this tech together in a new way, and make something more open-ended and on a grander scale.

Meanwhile, away from the development studio at Knutsford, The LEGO Company itself continued to pursue various digital creative sandbox experiments, and had already made moves onto mobile.

The direct collaboration started when a concept video from LEGO and a push from TT’s creative management collided and the reaction formed what became known as The Plan. Naturally, this spectacular event occurred spontaneously in a futuristic chamber filled with bricks, code and particles of imagination, and I’m pretty sure that nobody can prove otherwise.

The Plan was a three-way approach to building new experiences for players. First, we would develop a digital-physical project with LEGO that aimed to take Life of George to the next level – this became LEGO Fusion on mobile, from which all parties learned a lot. Meanwhile, prototype work would begin on a “toys to life” videogame, which was to become a little thing called LEGO Dimensions, featuring some incredible mash-ups. And finally, gameplay concepts for the procedural sandbox experience would begin to take shape. All, of course, while regular game development continued.

Work on procedural world generation code began in early 2014, while the basic principles, definitions and internal logic were set out in a game design document. Worlds would have a life of their own, landscape bricks and models would have different properties and restrictions, the game would represent real LEGO parts, models and sets, and the player would have access to a range of powerful creative tools.

Due to the more experimental nature of the project we always felt that a new approach to development was appropriate. We would release the core experience, and with our own plans in place but not fixed we would take it from there with the community’s involvement. In December 2014, a closed beta known as “R&D Project 23” was successfully rolled out to WB’s internal studios for initial testing and feedback.

Work continued steadily with a small team at LEGO and TT Games, picking up a proper name and a logo on the way. LEGO Worlds was finally released into the wild…

I saw this on Steam the other day it definitely looks interesting. Like several other have said I think it would be really cool if they added in Bionicle stuff.

I bought this a while back, actually. I played an hour or so of it and it was good but nothing great yet - I want to see how much they add to it, though. It still feels very much incomplete but it also has a lot of potential to be great.

Here's to hoping I don't get burned by early access :S

News Roundup; Content Update 1 release date/Build Competition/Dev Diary 1

Hi all,

We thought we’d provide you with a nice round up on what is coming up this week and what is currently ongoing.

CONTENT UPDATE 1

We’re delighted to announce that we’re aiming for the first Content Update to land on Friday July 3rd. We don’t have an exact set time, but as we’re based in the UK, you can expect it to arrive fairly early if you’re in the US, and fairly late in the evening if you one of our friends from Asia and Russia.

You’ll be able to explore caves, visit a whole new biome and discover a selection of new characters, creatures, items and vehicles. We’ll also be including a few interior props to make your houses more like a home. On top of that we are introducing a few technical updates at the request of the community, including a Windowed mode, Camera Y-Axis Inversion options, and a new brick in the Brick-by-Brick editor; an Inverted Corner Slope (3676): http://cache.lego.com/media/bricks/5/1/4552039.jpg

Along with the above Technical updates, we’re also rolling out more graphics options to players so that they’re able to tailor the settings to match their systems, allowing players to get the best out of their systems and improve performance on an individual basis.

We’re also adding several bug fixes, and hope to have resolved some of the early issues that users have had. If you do experience any issues, then head to our bug reporting forum, and we’ll see if there’s anything that we can do to help. The forum is here:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/332310/discussions/4/

We’ll keep you up-to-date on the launch, and will post an announcement once it is live, including some more in depth patch notes to go with it.

GET YOUR BUILD IN LEGO WORLDS!

Our competition to have a build of yours entered into LEGO Worlds, and a chance of having your name added to the credits is still live, but only for a few more hours! The competition closes tonight, so hurry to have your creation included. Info can be found here:
