They treat Sonic as corpse. Oh. Worse than corpse..

They think that collaborating other characters with Sonic is ignoble and insult for other characters. For example if Miku collaborate with Sonic, they blame Sonic series and say "miku's reputation is devastated by Sonic!!!!!"

Furthermore, They think rockman and sonic collaboration as corpse party.

In addition, In my country, they suggest that Sonic should be dead which is also claimed by Gamesradar and other major game magazines.

Seeing that article that claim Sonic is dead. I got defiance. That's why I'm interested about Sonic's status and reputation. However, after some research and see public opinion I still not sure about Sonic's current reputation

So. I ask a question. Is Sonic dead? Is he a rotten corpse as many people claim? Does Sonic series should be dead for Sega?.......

I don't suppose Sonic has ever been popular in South Korea? In any case, from what I see, Sonic's current reputation is going towards non-existent. As in, no one cares anymore.

He's not dead because SEGA hasn't stopped making games for it

I know how you feel.

But Sonic shouldn't be dead, SEGA just should finally understand what Sonic is really about.

My basic opinion,

Is Sonic dead? No because the series is still ongoing.

Should Sonic die? Taking into account what I've read in the past and what I've been told by fellow SSMB members recently I'm leaning towards yes unfortunately.

In any case like @Palas said, Sonic has always been more popular in the west. He isn't even popular in Japan, his country of origin. Come to think of it I don't think Sonic was ever popular in Japan.

Okay, what does dead mean in this context? I mean, anyone can see that SEGA is still making and selling Sonic the Hedgehog games. Does dead mean SEGA lacks the capability to produce quality titles? If that's the case, I'm gonna have to disagree. Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations were wonderful games, and they were released after what many people consider the lowest point in this franchise's history, Sonic the Hedgehog(2006). I for one am looking forward to whatever Sonic Team has been developing.

Considering they're still making Sonic games and other merchandise and they make them far more frequently than other games that no one claims to be dead, I'd say....no. Sonic isn't dead. It's not like he's Crash Bandicoot who hasn't had a main series game in 7 years.

He's survived things that would have killed most franchises. I'd say he's still breathing.

I get it now...transforming into a golden hero, being hit by the hardest things anyone's ever been hit by and surviving...dying and coming back to life...

Sonic is both intentionally and unintentionally a fucking Dragon Ball Z character. Literally. How often have we said things that could just as easily be reworded as

"Nobody could survive that."

An allegedly mediocre game and a bad first outing for an otherwise mostly well regarded TV series makes Sonic seems pretty good for a corpse.

Honestly I just think this fandom is overly cynical.

I'm a Power Rangers fan I've seen some real shit over the course of that franchise and it bounces back. Sonic's the same. Sometime's there's some bad instalments but it bounces back more often than not.

Not the best metric, someone is still making land before time movies.

From where I am, Sonic is just treated like a fallen rock star. He had a few really good albums that defined a genre and then he got on the sex and drugs train and faded away, trying to be relevant and further embarrasing himself.

That's how he's perceived anyway.
