The "90s kid" debate

Diesel

Recommended Posts

It's soooooooo annoying how people born in the mid 90s claim to be 90s kids even though they actually grew up in the 2000s. To be a 90s kid, the majority of your childhood (ages 3-12) must be spent in the 1990s. Only people born in 1983-1991 are 90s kids. People born in 1992 can be considered 90s/2000s kid hybrids. People born in 1993-2001 are 2000s kids through and through.

....Cool but what's the point of this topic? If you want to vent, there's a "Things that Piss You Off" topic in the Personal Discussion subforum.

The point of this topic is to discuss what makes a 90s kid.

It's a pretty well discussed thing in both the Internet and the real world.

The OP doesn't seem like, sounds like something I would read on the aforementioned "Things that Piss You Off" topic and I don't see this worth creating a topic for........

Yeah, except you're definition is basically ''You're only a 90s kid if you were born 1 year into the 90s''

Not only is that incredibly stupid (Are you trying to say that if you were born in let's say 1995, that those first 5 years of your life didn't exist and you didn't actually become somebody until the next decade?) but there is absolutely no need for this topic, other than you trying to say what defines a kid of the 90s (which quite frankly is a stupid topic anyway. Why the hell should it be a big deal if you grew up in the 90s?)

I was born late 80s and grew up in the 90s and most of the 2000s however lots of the 90s have influenced the 2000s era kids. Another way to look at it is what presidents (If in U.S.) you grew up with.

I strongly suggest you edit your topic to make your point more clearer and to help bring discussion. Like what is the main discussion topic about? You could probably change it to how do you feel about people born in the mid to late 90s claiming to be 90s kids or what makes a kid 90s type kid than. Obviously though I not consider myself 80s kid because I was not knowledgeable about that stuff or upbringing.

That's not my definition. My definition of a 90s kid is someone who spent the majority of their childhood in the 90s. Obviously a person "born 1 year into the 90s" wouldn't fit this criteria.

A person born in 1995 would have spent a very short amount of their childhood in the 1990s. Thus, they're not a 90s kid. It's not that they "didn't exist and didn't actually somebody until the next decade". It's that they didn't spend the majority of their childhood in the 1990s. They're 2000s kids as they spent the majority of their childhood in the 2000s.

If you were born in the late 80s, you're definitely a 90s kid. But you're definitely not a 2000s kid; you're a 2000s teenager.

That sounds so silly. Your definition is still wrong then as even if they were born in 1994, they would have spent the majority of their childhoods in the 90s. This is pretty goddamn silly. If you were born in the 1997 or 1998, you still would have grown up with things featured in the 90s, even the 3D consoles like PS1 and such is 90s stuff. It's incredibly silly that to be a 90s kid, you must have been born before 1991.

But that said, this is still a stupid debate that doesn't require it's own thread and could just have easily gone into the ''Things that Pissed You Off'' thread

Wrong, a person born in 1994 wouldn't have spent the majority of their childhood in the 1990s; they were only 5 by 1999. Childhood is ages 3-12. They would have spent the majority of their childhood in the 2000s. And a person born in 1997-1998 won't be a 90s kid at all; they were only 1-2 by the time the decade ended in 1999.

The PSOne is just one thing from the 90s that lasted into the 2000s. The things that truly defined the 1990s were Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Michael Jordan at his prime, New Kids On the Block at their prime, Vanilla Ice at his prime, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch at their prime, Fresh Prince of Bel Air at its prime, Saved By the Bell at its prime, Ren and Stimpy at its prime, grunge music at its prime, New jack swing at its prime, etc. People born in 1993-2001 won't remember this shit.

Launch all 90's kids, real or fake, into the sun. It's the only way to solve this.

Only people born in 1983-1991 are 90s kids.

So a guy born on December 31st 1982 at 23:59 is an 80s kid.

But a guy born on January 1st 1983 at 0:00 is a 90s kid.

... ... ... Allrghty then.

So according to your logic my brother and I are not '90's' kids because we were both born in the 90's and who's childhoods were shaped in the 90's... and your using mainly american pop culture to determine this...

Yeah no. I'm not letting you determine what sort of childhood era I grew up in. I'm a 90's kid so is my brother. The end.

A person born in 1982 is an 80s/90s kid hybrid. Half of their childhood (ages 3-12) was spent in the 80s, the other half in the 90s.

A person born in 1983 would have spent the majority of their childhood in the 90s, thus that person is an 90s kid.

Sorry to tell ya, but the same way you don't define definitions, you don't define decades either. This is a common thing I seem to notice with you in debates. Every single time, you act like you are what defines stuff. What you like, isn't what defines the 90s. I could easily argue stuff like PS1, Toy Story, the Disney Reconnaissance, the later Cartoon Network stuff. I'm sorry to tell you, but every single thing you posted is subjective and opinionated. On top of that, your argument is wrong to begin with. If someone was born in 1983, they'd have spent the majority of their childhood in the 80s, with 7 years in the 80s, as opposed to 5 in the 90s.

Also, now you're trying to bring in hybrids and that shit? Dude, are you fucking serious? You are not some kind of hybrid of 80s and 90s pop culture. In fact, it's so silly that it deserves:

And according to you, your opinion on the 90s is irrelevant because our standards have changed since then so therefore your opinion and this entire thread if irrelevant to our current standards.

Is this a joke topic?

I feel like that I understand what you getting at here. Obviously if you are born 1997 then you are a baby during the remaining 90s and thus are not grown up enough to understand things on. I was born late 80s but I definitely do not consider myself 80s kid because I not come up of age during 80s. I will disagree with you on the 2000s part. I was 12 in 2000 and I consider the "teens" as part of my childhood. What about using your school years as way to determine if you are a 90s kid and so on? One more thing I do believe you can be a 90s and a 2000s kid such as myself. However I connect more strongly with the 90s then 2000s than.

So clearly I wasn't born until 2000 by your logic, which means I'm technically 15 years old, which means I'm still in high school.

One day you're going to learn that having an actual productive conversation with another human being doesn't mean insisting your opinion #RFact. Closing this because it's already turning into the circular shit plaguing the Adventure threads. If you want to complain about people's arbitrary childhood identities, do it in the "Things That Piss You Off" thread.
