Sonic Unleashed

Eternal EX

Recommended Posts

Hi. Um so I recently beat this game and I think it's Sonic's best game since freakin SA2B. I really like chip

light gaia

. His 2nd scene where he's at a ice cream parlor and leaves sonic behind was priceless. He (jap version) seemed sooooo cute.

Anyways I just wanted your opinion about the game. And please NO flaming each other or the game!

BTW what is your favorite level? Mine is the Adabat act 1-1, 1-2 and 3 (day).

I have both versions of this game. I brought the Wii version first, and I was originally going to just stick with that one until I saw the vast amount of differences that the 360 version had.

The things I like better about the Wii version are:

-Easier controls (with Sonic the Hedgehog)

-It's easier to get to your next destination, due to the lack of adventure fields (I hate adventure fields, even in Sonic Adventure and Next-Gen Sonic).

-Sonic starts out with all the abilities (rather than getting them in the form of "upgrades" like in the 360 version).

-You could actually use the speed boost while riding the sled in Holoska and Robotnikland (yes, "Robotnikland", as Robotnik called it in Sonic Adventure. I hate the name of "Eggman" with a passion).

-The fact that you could actually kill that huge machine you encounter at the end of Apotos (that you have to avoid by using sidesteps. That thing couldn't be killed in the 360 version).

-The Punch Out!!-style battle with Dark Gaia, as opposed to the one in the 360 version, where you had to be lightyears away from Dark Gaia, and you have to get closer to him with a slow boost, while barely avoiding his attacks).

-Robotnikland was more than one stage, as opposed to being one, hour-long stage in the 360 version.

The things I like better about the 360 version are:

-The graphics (I don't play games based soley on graphics, but still.)

-The Werehog controls are easier (and the gameplay mechanics themselves were executed a lot better).

-There's no limit to the amount of extra lives you could obtain.

-The level designs were less "linear", and to a certain extent, were similar to Sonic 1's, where you had to push blocks.

-The engine, for the most part, feels a lot smoother.

-Achievements.

-The amount of Werehog stages were pretty much equal to the amount of Hedgehog stages (unlike the Wii version, where there was WAY more Werehog stages than Hedgehog stages).

-The inclusion of the Tornado Mini-Stage, Empire City, and the Mazuri Action Stage, which wasn't present in the Wii version for some reason.

True, well some of it.

pros

-graphics were outstanding!

-unlike most people I liked the night hog. He needed more complex combos but he was good for kids.

-not counting the night hog, SONIC seemed like himself.

-achievements was a major plus!

-the hog engine was wonderful.

hates

-eggyland, I really hated this 48min stage. especially when you go for the hotdog achievement, Its hell.

-framerate issues but nothing that i couldn't over look.

-tornado min game. That was useless

-and well it needs more stages for both night hog and sonic.

-what the heck was sega thinking, THE MEGAZORD! I mean honestly....

I like Unleashed on the Wii. I was able to take Sonic and move faster than an FZero car, which has a certain appeal all it's own. I didn't really mind the werehog levels, either. They're a little repetitive, (okay, they're just plain repetitive), and rather simple, but the platforming is decent fun and the fights are a blast. I just wish there were more enemies. The soundtrack bears mention, too.

Then I saw some PS360 vids on youtube and I was all FUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOUUUU DIIIIIIIIIMPS I WANT MY 50 BUCKS BACK RAGHREEMOACCHANAGBALAGH.

I played the PS2 version, as I don't have any current-gen consoles. I found it really fun, enough to put it in my personal top 3 Sonic games (behind Sonic 2 (Genesis) and Sonic Advance 3). I enjoyed both the day and night stages, although I would have preferred to see some of alternate day areas as full fledged stages instead of missions (especially Spagonia sewers and Chun-nan garden).

I wish to get a X360/PS3 in the near future to check out that version (and play '06 too, while I'm at it).

On average, it's pretty much what everyone else says it is. Daytime levels are fast and fun, nighttime levels are slow and boring, and the sound fits the feel of the game really well.

Oh, and the bosses were epic. Until I saw videos of the 360 version.

But the game's (IMO) pretty good compared to other games out for the Wii. (But if you can only get one game, get Black Knight. That one's awesome.)

Haha

I thought the Wii bosses were good too. When I got the PS3 version, my opinion quickly changed. Seriously, its like the Wii versions bosses were designed as an “Easy Mode” or something.

I played the PS3 and the Wii version. I liked the PS3 version better (and I got that version first). The daytime levels...well most people here have said it - fun and epic. Night time...when I first played it, it was horrible for me. I hated fighting all those robots and such. But now, I don't find any night time level an issue because my Werehog has got maximum life, strength and combat. I now only go back to play Sonic Unleashed (PS3) to collect all the trophies. Not far away from collecting them all. =3

The Wii version however is different. The nighttime levels there are so annoying. Unless you get one of those "1 up" items in those secret Gaia Gates, you are gonna have a rough time. You have to be extra careful because you only have 2 lives when first playing the game.

Well, since we're talking about Sonic Unleashed, the Japanese official website now have some previews of the songs from the OST. I don't think that was mentioned before (though I may be wrong), but it looks like some of the levels have different names in the Japanese version. Windmill Isle is called White Island, Savannah Citadel is called Clay Castle, and Rooftop Run is Orange Roofs (Jungle Joyride is still Jungle Joyride, and the other levels are not displayed here). That's pretty strange, in Sonic games, levels usually have the same name in all versions...

Anyway... I got Sonic Unleashed on the 360, and I liked it for the most part, pretty fun game, day or night. Except Eggmanland. That level was really frustrating.

Otherwise I enjoyed the Werehog levels, but they were a bit too long. The hub worlds were nice as well. And of course, the graphics are gorgeous.

I actually really liked the way 1-ups were handled on Wii-PS2. By the end of most games, I've usually collected so many 1-ups that there's barely any point in not dying. The 1-Up as a power-up was a fresh idea, and I'd like to see it come back someday.

I only have the 360 version. I originally wanted to get both, but think I'll wait to get the Wii version in a bargain bin.

Daytime gameplay is the most fun I've had with a Sonic game for a loooong time, but still too much boost and not enough platforming. I guess it's something they can work on. Werehog platforming is fun, but battles are tedious and take fucking forever.

Hey, what about me?

Oh yeah! Silly me! I have to post my opinions, and not have others speak for me! Heh heh!

Anyhow, I have the 360 and Wii version. However, I love the 360 version 10 times more, and I loved day and night levels, the bosses (especially the Dark Guardian, Egg Dragoon, Dark Gaia in both phases and the Egg Beetle)! In fact, I got used to Eggmanland to seeing it as a great level within the realm of my opinion! I had my Werehog's stats built up as well as Sonic's stats to the point where I love to keep playing EggmanLand over and over again! I also loved how they increased the difficulty of each stage you had to go through. Although EggmanLand may have been a little too hard for a bit of a final level, I admire how Sonic Team made each level difficult as you go through each of them one by one...

Like how it got harder in every Zone in, say, Sonic 1 and 3.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

That was another thing I liked but also hated, the werehog battles. At the beginning of the game he is soooo lame and boring. But once you level him up (combos, unleashed bar, and life) he becomes a decent joyride. And for me I didnt stay in the night levels longer than what 10mins at most. I mostly ran straight through holding the dash button the whole time until i felt like being a badass and walk and dominate all that oppose me.

We have the Wii and 360 versions and I prefer the 360. I find that the Wii version looks empty. I love the Sonic levels, hate the werehog and the minigames T__T

I think it's the best 3D Sonic game since SA2. (360 version) Sure, the Werehog was rather bland and the final boss was a predictable downer, but the day stages are really great. I wouldn't mind if the next game plays like this, as long as the levels have more platforming and paths to take.

I loved the Werehog levels. The Hedgehog levels were just okay (Wii version). They had a great sense of speed, not much else. The Werehog was nothing that hadn't done before, but it was done well enough that I didn't care.

But both types of levels have something about them so I just keep playing them just for the heck of it, even though it's been months since I beat it.

It's got one of my favorite game soundtracks ever. Chu-nan Day FTW.

Overall, good game.

Eh, I've got the Wii version, but will play the 360 version very soon too.

Love the speed stages (except for Eggmanshit--whoops, I mean LAND *rolls eyes*), Werehog stages are...ok, the graphics are good I guess..

But it really pissed me off that there's only two racing stages and about ten for Werehog. How unfair can you get?!

Muh, I thought Unleashed was good, if I could give it a rating it would be a 7/10. It wasn't that brilliant really..

I haven’t finished it yet, but I quite like Unleashed. I have the Wii version and the biggest problems I have with it are the duff camera and fiddly controls.

I had no real problem with the Werehog levels, though they were overlong and too many for too few Sonic levels. The first few training levels were really annoying, though, and a chore to get through.

Also, Chip does get annoying at times, but isn’t too bad overall.

New patch/update now LIVE for Xbox 360 version

A new patch/update has been released over Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 version, no word on wether the PS3 version has gotten this patch/update. No info yet on what it patch does, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that could do with being patched is that Art Book mission with the old lady. I've already had her disappear on me though and I've looked now after downloading the patch to see if she's re-appeared and she hasn't.

Word's going around that some of the lag has been fixed, particularly in Adabat.

Why wouldn't SEGA fix the Quiz Lady glitch with the same patch, though? I'm sure they're aware of it by now.

Wow... So they DID release a patch. Interesting. Pretty cool, actually. Has the Japanese game just been released or something? That's the only reason I think it would take so long to get one out.

Lets see now *fires up Sonic Unleashed PS3* Is there a patch!

... ...

... ....

No.

Mind you it was a lot less laggy anyway.

Although I am suprised that they've bothered to release a patch so late into the games life.

Hmm... this is interesting, quoting from the gamespot link...

A "Go to the lab" option has been added from the world map. Convenient.

The Go To the Lab option has always been there, you just can't access it until a certain point in the game. Also, it takes you to Spagonia Lab even after he moves to Shamar. They need to fix that, too.

Thats not on the PS3 version... BAH! We're hard! We can find our own way there!

So far, I havent seen anything different. There's still major lag in jungle joyride day 1. But after playing it like 100 times it doesnt effect me. I was hoping it did something special like GIVE US THE LEADERBOARDS that somehow got left out. But sadly nothing.

They need to release a multiplayer mode (I'm sure many people share my sentiments on this.)

And not just any party game collection or brawler (a la Secret Rings or Black Knight) mode. Instead, a race mode would be nice.
