It is unbelievably sad that there's only one legitimate handheld game and the rest are F2P Mobile Nonsense.

Except not all mobile games are like that. Almost none of the games on the list are like that.

Handhelds barely put anything worth mentioning out this year so be glad they have a 3DS game there at all.

I was referring more to the fact the Handhelds are being grouped in with Mobile games instead of having it's own section.

They're cut from the same cloth really.

That doesn't really make sense either.

Mobile = on the go. Handheld games are mobile games.

And like I said handhelds really didn't have shit on them this year so they don't really need their only category even if they were their own thing.

Damn it, made my thread too late.

Anyway, I can 100% assure you that Best Independent Game is going to be a serious bloodbath over Rocket League and Undertale. Seriously, whichever one wins is going to cause a massiveeeee fit. That'll be fun to watch.

The Best Mobile/Handheld game selection looks alright, but I will be absolutely bewildered if either Fallout Shelter or Pac-Man 256 get the award, seeing as they are free-to-play games that suffered from some serious design flaws with the F2P restriction placed in.

Undertale unfortunately has very little chance in the Best RPG category (With it being hit with Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3), but I hope it gets at least one award. Strange that both Undertale and Bloodborne didn't get awards for Best Soundtrack, which is an absolute let-down. The Witcher 3 and Ori are the only games on there I felt like actually had a memorable soundtrack.

Anyway, we should make a bingo card template for the award choices sometime soon, that'd be freaking fun

    • Uncharted 4: A Thief's End / Naughty Dog (PS4)

Lets have a go at it then.

Esports Game: Doesn't give a shit about ESports, and none of these are particularly interesting to me.

Best Fan Creation: While I haven't tried any of these, I do like have a category dedicated to fan creations as with the recent mess with Take Two basically threatening modders, it's nice to see fan creations being given some recongition.

Trending Gamer: I guess TotalBiscuit, since he's my favourite out of the choices and on another note and completely opinion moment: screw Pewdiepie and his overrated videos.

Favourite ESports Team: lolno

Favourite ESports Player: lolno

Most Anticipated Game: Either Uncharted 4, No Man's Sky or Horizon, in that order.

Iwata tribute teased for The Game Awards, Nintendo will apparently have stuff to show

The Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley just wrapped up a Q&A about the event on Periscope a short while ago. There wasn’t a whole lot of Nintendo-specific information shared, but Keighley did seem to tease something special.

Although he didn’t say it explicitly, Keighley strongly hinted that The Game Awards will honor late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in some way. He indicated that he didn’t want to talk too much about it so that the moment wouldn’t be ruined, and everyone can appreciate it together. It does sound like a tribute is planned.

Also, I didn’t catch this myself, but Keighley apparently said that Nintendo will have some new stuff to show at The Game Awards. More footage of Zelda Wii U would certainly be nice!

Come on, Zelda U!

I cannot remember a single original track from MGS V aside from the main theme, which is memorably bad.  Might as well have just given the award to Midge Ure.  Undertale not nominated for goty, narrative, or soundtrack.  Seems legit.

And FWIW, giving out awards by genre is dumb because you'll frequently wind up in this situation where only one game in a given category is nominated for GotY meaning it either gets the genre award be default or paints the genre award as consolation prize.

And even divorced of spike, this show continues to be a thinly veiled excuse to get eyes on trailers outside of E3, at least we had Nintendo class it up a bit.

Any summary of the announcements and non-award stuff showcased?

Pleasantly surprised that Splatoon won best shooter AND best multiplayer, but Undertale won nothing? Fucking bullshit.

Keighley calling out Konami for not letting Kojima come was pretty cool. Drunk Jade Raymond was really funny.

Dare I say not everyone thought that Undertale was as mind blowing and amazing as you did? Rocket League is a really fucking fun game with tons of replay value and Psyonix are fantastic developers that work hard to improve their game with community feedback. Their first game, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars was also fun but I guarantee no one knew who the hell they were before Rocket League.

Normally I wouldn't respond to something like this, but this is a widespread sentiment that I've seen all over the internet and I'm quite honestly tired of seeing it. It's not "bullshit" and "rigged" because Undertale didn't win anything. It was up against stiff competition and if you ask me personally it was one of the weaker games in every category it was nominated for.

You know what else didn't win a single damn thing at The Game Awards last night? Bloodborne*. Fucking Bloodborne* didn't win anything and that game is several times more well known and popular than Undertale despite how loud the latter's fanbase is.

*You can obviously replace Bloodborne with Fallout 4 and it still make sense

Not only is there no Zelda or Star Fox Wii-u like mentioned, but there also is no Xenoblade X. Yeah, more reason for me not to take these things seriously.

I think I'd have been more annoyed if they had shown Xenoblade X than nothing. The game has been out for ages in Japan and is out in a few days in the west. I've seen enough of it.

Nintendo won multiple awards last night and they even had an Iwata tribute. Not taking The Game Awards seriously because Nintendo decided to not show anything is strange.
