As for June 2009, 4kids/NYAV post contract with SEGA of America has officially expired(It was extended for another year in May 2008). Funimation is now set to be taking over voice work for future Sonic games. Ryan Drummond has been petitioning to return as the voice of Sonic,knowning Funimation its likely they may contract him to return.

Evidence to back up these claims? First I've ever heard of it.

Does it REALLY MATTER who voices the characters? Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I play games for their gameplay and not their voice actors. These aren't movies people!

This game looks to be pretty retro and classic so it's likely no voicework will be involved at all.

What Shadzter said. I don't care about flippin storylines or voice actors in my Sonic games. I play them for the gameplay, graphics, and music. That is all. =)

I have no proof whatsoever, but I can say with the utmost confidence that PN will not be for the generation of consoles after this one. Do you really think Sega would announce a game for consoles that aren't even announced themselves yet? It makes no sense at all.

They be planning a exclusive release for a top secret console. While it's not likely that SEGASammy may be planning a new console, I wouldn't rule it out, especially in light of all the circumstancial evidence of issued patents,change in managment,new trademarked hardware.

We shall see what's going on within the next several months.

I do agree with Shadzter and Azukara, but I would still rather have Drummond than Griffith even though Griffith has gotten better. Voices aren't important, but if they are there I'd rather have the one I like more xD

I think storylines and voice acting actually fit really well in 3D Sonic games, but not in 2D. I like the classics how they are and I also like the way how those newer games are done. PN will be a 2D Sonic game, so I don't think we'll need those features. Just my personal opinion.

I have a completely different view when it comes to voice acting. First off, I'd like to mention that I somewhat resent that Jason uses the same voice for Sonic as he does "Bongo the Monkey", one of the Danimals Yogurt mascots. More than being associated with one of the most annoying commercials ever made (Head On has nothing on this), it also speaks of how generic the voice they ended up with is. I wish they would try and come up with something more distinctive. I was thinking a sort of less angry Nero maybe?

And lol, me bringing up a derivative voice after complaining about a lack of distinction? Johnney Yong Bosch has crazy range. He could easily voice Sonic and Tails.

I doubt that would be true. Funimation only does anime dubs. Knowing Sega they might extend this contract to keep the current cast. I doubt they would go out on their way to find Ryan and friends either.

If 4kids cast leaves well.....

My last post was edited too late, but their voice actors have been known to do games quite often, anyway. Still counts.

In those cases, they're just maintaining consistency with the shows that they're based on.

Besides, if 4kids were to no longer dub Sonic, Sega would do it themselves, like they did before Sonic X, as well as all the other games they've been making.

For me, any mild improvement that might be garnered by replacing the voice cast would be totally overridden by the jarring nature of having to get used to every character suddenly sounding different... again. I hate it even when that has to be done for entirely logical reasons like an actor dying, so to see it happen just because LOL 4KIDS would bother me. Besides, isn't that kind of exactly what happened to the old cast?

It's not as if 4kids have had a monopoly on the voices anyway. Lacey Chabert as Elise, anyone?

Regardless, I'll be surprised if the game features any voice acting at all outside of maybe an "OHOHOHOHO" or two, no matter what it turns out to be like. All of this is almost certainly a moot point.

Just a bit point, but I thought that Sega just used the 4Kids actors without any actual 4Kids involvement after Sonic X ended?


That being said, it would be nice if they could get some people who could actually emote. I'm not calling for OMG ORIGINAL VOICE CAST, because they pretty much sucked too; but if they had to clean house I want them to clean house. Crispin Freeman for Shadow 2010!

Uhmn, I agree yet disagree. They didn't promise 2D Sonic, that is an assumption. They promised an all-new 2D Adventure. Waiting to see still.
