DiC's Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is without a doubt my favorite Sonic cartoon. I was overjoyed to be able to purchase Volumes 1&2 from Shout Factory. Unfortunately, it has been nearly a year since volume 2 released and there is no word on volume 3... until now!

Brian Ward of Shout is asking fans if they would be interested in buying Volume 3 as an online exclusive at their website. This would be the last batch of episodes and the BEST of the episodes (remember the time travel story arch?), effectively completing the collection! THere has been no retail release of Volume 3 as Volumes 2&3 didn't sell as well. An online exclusive could fix all that!

Help the AoStH fans out and let Brian know that Volume 3 as an online exclusive is a great idea (and if you'd like, tell him your interest in buying it)!

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't all the episodes been previously released? I have the massive 8-disc box set with all the episodes on except for Chrimbo Blast...but even then this has just been released separately. Is this problem one confined to US shores?

Apparently they were releasing them as flashy multiple boxsets with special features.

Yeah, I think the US got different things than we did regarding AoStH, with extras and whatnot.

The thing is, the UK set is region 0, so theoretically should work in the US anyway. Even if this doesn't play out, couldn't people import?

I have a US copy of the SatAM box set (Region 0) that plays just fine on a UK DVD player, so I can't imagine why the reverse wouldn't also be true.

Regardless of the UK set being region 0, the US has already had Volumes 1 and 2. It would be easier for all US fans to buy the final third, with the possibility of bonus features, than import an expensive and difficult to find complete series. Having to repurchase what is essentially volumes 1&2 would also be a major annoyance.

The few ebay auctions that I've found sell the complete series from the UK for two to three times the price of a volume 3. It's $18 versus $40 to $65. Even then, there are only a handful of auctions, making copies scarce if that is the only method US fans have. Even if you don't plan on purchasing it, tell Brian that online distribution would be a great plan. :D

I don't support it since there's a box set with all 65 episodes....

Why would you want another re-release of AoStH anyway? It was a bunch of old crappy slapstick claptrap with nonsensical and cheesy pseudo-funny "humour" that wasn't even good at the time, and would only appeal to demented 8-year-olds and YouTube spammers - two groups of people who greatly annoy me. Okay, so the arrangement of the Sonic theme was pretty cool, but music doesn't matter; the show sucked balls, and that's all there is to it. How anyone could love such a steaming pile of dog-shit - especially when it has abysmal and sub-Griffith voice acting, coupled with an utterly dire script - is absolutely beyond me...

I know that everybody will most likely accuse me of being an ungrateful martyr (I live in the UK, and have way more than enough cash to get the entire box-set), but I thought that Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was total crap. Worse than that, in fact.

Yeah, a box set released in another region. Try hopping onto Amazon or ebay to snag a copy in the US, and you're spending up to $65, not to mention all the dealers are international. I'd, and many others, would prefer the final third sold within the country for a nominal price to complete the series.

It's a shame the box set costs so much in the US, it's relatively inexpensive over here. Play.com have it going for £17.99, although I paid almost £30 for it from there when I got it a couple of years back.

The rest of your post was completely useless, so I'll respond to this bit instead:

Why would you want another re-release of AoStH anyway?

Because it was a fairly popular show on TV making use of popular property when a lot of people of this generation were growing up, so it has nostalgic value to those in their late-teens to early 20s.

While I do totally respect your right to a personal opinion on the show, I do feel a little resentful of the "would only appeal to demented 8-year-olds and YouTube spammers" accusation in there =P I'm neither 8 years old or a YouTube 'spammer', yet AoStH is, and has always been, my favourite of all the incarnations of Sonic. I find the show funny and charming, even if cheesy, and actually feel it had more character development (despite the slapstic and stand-alone nature of most episodes) than many of the other 'verses combined. Plus it was cute as heck.

Ah well.

Obviously it was aimed at 8-12 year olds, but so too were many cartoons of old that adults still watch now. AoStH infused a good deal of grownup humor via Robotnik. Also, Scratch and Grounder are extremely funny characters no matter what your age.

I'll also say again that the time travel story arch was the best American Sonic work I have seen.

Great news! So is this the last of the sets?

Yup! Last of AoStH and last of the 90's Sonic toons. :) This set will contain the epic time travel story arch, so far only available as a budget release. Also the episode "The Mobius 5000" will feature Sonic racing Robotnik in a car! SASAR anybody?

No word on Christmas Blast being in it, but considering it's already on DVD and sells for next to nothing theres no reason to include it.

The alarm clock at the intro of the show was my alarm clock every morning in 1993/1994. 6am (or 6:30am, forgot which), jump out of bed, grab some cereal, hit record on the VCR, catch the first 20 minutes, head to school, get home and watch the final 10 minutes, queue up the tape for tomorrow, repeat.

I emailed Milton Knight to ask if any extras will be on Volume 3, and he said that while he does not know what will be included, there was an additional "how to draw" of Tails that was not included on Volumes 1&2. SO that very well could be the extra in the set.

There's a possibility that the extra could be he pilot episode. I'd love that.
