A new games console that will emulate the Wii as well as allowing you to play classic Sega games is being launched in the summer.

The console, called the Sega Zone, will come with 20 classic Sega titles, like Alex Kid, Golden Axe, Sonic and Knuckles and Ecco the dolphin as well as a further 30 games, 16 of which are motion controlled.

Users will be able to control the action via two included wireless remote controls and when not playing Sega titles be able to play the usual array of sports classic like table tennis, darts, fencing, beach volleyball, and golf by waving the controller in front of the screen as they do with the Nintendo console.

However gamers hoping to be able to load in more games will be disappointed, although the makers say that they hope to offer more Sega titles in the future, you won't be able to add them to this system.

Priced at around £50, the Sega Zone is expected to be out in the summer.

The Sega Zone follows the launch of a revamped Sega Mega Drive console launched in April 2009.

The console, which is smaller than the original comes preloaded with 15 Sega licensed games many of which are also featured on the Sega Zone.

It however is able to take old cartridges and is priced at £39.95

Not quite a new console but oh well  Look's kinda cool but it's pretty much got the same games as on those other officially licensed Mega Drive's released in the last couple of years.

The actual product doesn't look interesting, but holy hell Nintendo should hire Sega or whoever is manufacturing this thing to design the case for the Wii.

They're using fan-art on the box.

Right here:

It seems like this guy's artwork is always being mistaken for official artwork.

But yeah, just another Genesis with built-in games.

Another job well done by an employee that is tasked with designing a box in an hour without any official art files that turns to Google images search I imagine.

I believe Envy is also an active member of this forum- so here's hoping he sees this topic and gives input. XD

I seriously doubt it's an 'official SEGA product' like it says on the box. If so, god help us. =X I just hope Stuart Ashens reviews it sometime in the future.

I bet he could ask for royalties and the like. He'd probably make a killing somehow :D

The thing itself looks kinda meh, like every other "console" SEGA has been releasing lately.

Envy I would advise you take legal advice before you take legal action on this one, yes they've used your artwork, but you've drawn their product... so... urm... Yeah... Call Neil Hudgell!

That is quite a shocking blunder if thats the final product art and it's in production now, the costs to change that... oh boy I wouldn't want to think. It still beggers belief that so many people just blatently google Sonic and pick a random image. Wasn't it gamespot or something that did it a few weeks ago?

As for the product... well... It just sounds like that other sega plug in and play console that came out last year with wireless pads. The real news here is the artwork lol.

I got one of the handheld Mega Drive consoles for Christmas last year, as a "joke" present. My parents think I'm regressing into my childhood, so they went and bought a handheld MD...tbh, I think a Pico would've been funnier.

Still, that doesn't look TOO bad, though I find fault with putting S&K on it without Sonic 3...or any of the other good Sonics, for that matter.

You know the world's going to shit when even Sega's making a Wii knock-off.

SEGA aren't making this though, they'll have just given some company the rights to use their logo on the box, and to use some of their games. If SEGA were actually making it, it'd look better and have better games on :P

That looks exactly like some Chinese Wii knock off that a friend of mine linked me a picture of a while back. The only difference is that it was white.

I doubt it's legit.

Like Gavvie said, this is not SEGA made. Turns out there are more of these "Zone" consoles around with different games.

http://www.zavvi.com/10062175.html

Look at all these wonderful games:

WALKING-RACE

BOX WORLD

HITTING MICE

FISH WAR

BEE FIGHTING

For whatever reason, SEGA let these guys use their games for this version. Like how they let Tectoy make countless re-releases of the Master System and Genesis.

Haha, seems that way.

I do wonder about how much fun can be had out of these "knock off" consoles.

Double-you Tee Efffff.

Well, first things first. How the hell did they get that picture? To my knowledge the only version of this version of this picture (yeah, wrap your head around that) that exists is this one (along with my SSMB topic) and this has the original background, WITH my name included. I can tell it's the latest update I made to it, the lineart on the bottom shoe is much smoother than how it used to be in previous years, a change I made only a few months ago, I'm certain it's only DA and SSMB that have that. Every other version of this that has popped up on eBay for example has been an outdated version with dodgy shoe lines :P

Hmmmm, how do I react? I'm not sure really, in ways I'm flattered that it's (once again) been mistaken for official works, but also well....I put days, weeks into that damn thing and once again someone comes along and takes it without asking, rips it from the original image and then completely ignores my name. What's more irritating is that I'm almost positive I can't even begin to take legal action even if I wanted to, legally I don't own that or any other of my Sonic fanart. I can't stand up and say 'Hey that's my picture!' because then SEGA will just stand up and say 'Yeah....but it's our character.' The only choice of getting anywhere is just through Human morals, and companies don't tend to listen to those. if I find an e-mail address or something similar, I might get in contact and see the results but until then well....I'm just proud that apparently I work at a professional level.

As for the console, I like the design of it but....that's all.

Unrelated: It seems Gamespot changed that banner, they must have actually taken notice of my e-mail.

Just take it as SEGA appreciating the fanart they see, and want to show it off as a LOOK AT THIS! kinda thing, lol.

Seriously though, somebody at SEGA would have had to agree to the art usage, surely? They would've known it wasn't theirs, right?
