Too bad i can't play mine its power cord is shot :(. i loved the PS2 i remember getting the phat the first time it blew me away with its awesome graphics and the ability to play PS1 games was sick i never even touched my PS1 after that. of course after the phat died i had to get a thin PS2 but that was just as awesome because of the now added net ability.

Favorite game: Tekken 5. whats yours?

Why bring up that dead system when the PS2s tenth anniversary has precisely nothing to do with it? Sega was doomed PS2 or no PS2, their financial ineptitude would've seen them off even if their only competition was an arthritic llama for crying out loud.

The PS2 is ten years old and that makes me feel... really old.

I remember a time before the PS2... it was a simpler time, filled with warring worms, blue hedgehogs, micro-sized machines and purple dragons in good games. It was a time when the only information most of us had on games came either by word of mouth (which meant it often became distorted very quickly) or through magazines, when the words "exclusive preview" still meant "the same preview all the other mags have", when we weren't being fed new information constantly as we are now. It was a time when gaming news really was a monthly thing. It was also a time when "squad-based combat" was almost unheard of and FPS characters could still carry dozens of items at once.

I miss those days...

Oh and Vice City was shit; shitty orange hue everywhere, mostly shitty music. GTA 3 was by far the better game.

I only got my PS2 in 2008, but already it's one of my favourite consoles. Ten years and still being supported with some decent releases! Like the new Silent Hill which came out recently.

My favourite PS2 game be Persona 4, which also happens to be my favourite RPG of all time ever.

Eewww. Liberty City Stories I might give you, but GTA III has aged so poorly that it is hard to even play anymore, even the superior PC version.

Alas, 'twas a sad day for SEGA when the PS2 was unleashed upon the dearly beloved Dreamcast...

Unlike the death of King Kong, it was the beast that killed beauty.

No DC fanboyism in here, okay? I want to be able to see discussion on the PS2 without hearing the usual "Sony killed Sega" drivel, it brings my piss to a boil.

Anyway. My favorite games on the system are undoubtedly those developed by Nippon Ichi. Disgaea, Phantom Brave, and Makai Kingdom are all solid titles, and I've pretty much mastered them as best I could. Oh the times when I had the patience to pour hundreds of hours in pumping up my story characters... but now I'm a housewife so I have no time for that !!

As part of my uni course I recently got lent a development PS2. No joke - it's quite nifty for such old hardware too. Unfortunately this is the first time a PS2 has entered my home.

I stuck with the GameCube during the sixth generation as at the time the PS2 had no games that appealed to me. Typically, by the time the seventh generation showed up suddenly the PS2 started falling over good games I was interested in but IMO it was too late to pick one up. Bah.

There are some games for PS2 that I'd be interested in playing but never got EU releases, so I'm considering hunting down a PS2 and a Freeloader so I can play these import games. The problem is of course that the hardware and software is obsolete so I'm not sure where I'd go about finding a retail PS2 and the Freeloader these days. :(

My PS2 is still working and in use (currently playing Ace Combat Zero and Final Fantasy X). I got it for Xmas in 2004 along with Ace Combat 4, Need for Speed Underground 2 and other 2 games that I can't remember now. My favorite game for it is NFS Most Wanted, although I'm also fond of the PS2 version of NFS Undercover, due to it basically being MW:Remix.

Mine's still knocking around somewhere. I kept it running until this Christmas just gone, when my major present was a PlayStation3 and I finally upgraded my games. But what a friend it was! I had two, one black and one silver, over the space of those ten years. And the games always delighted, providing one made the right choices!

Sonic Heroes and the two Sonic Riders games are obvious choices, as are the James Bond games from EA that always kept me going (and was perhaps my motivation to get my first PlayStation2, back in 2000, for the excellent James Bond 007 in... Agent Under Fire). And who could forget TimeSplitters, or indeed the deeply-flawed-yet-still-addictive Grand Theft Auto series? The graphics blew me away back then, just as the PlayStation3 did upon first play of Sonic the Hedgehog in January. Oh, and Star Wars: Battlefront II was another awesome title which I loved playing over and over with my mates at university!

Well, I want to be able to discuss the Dreamcast without everyone busting out with "why it wasn't so great", but I don't see any moderators enforcing that. :P

Happy 10th birthday, PS2. You are one of my favorite consoles ever. It seems like yesterday when I got a PS2 back in October 2003...

My favorite game on the console would have to be Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater/Subsistence. Hands-down the best game I have ever played.

Ah, I remember my brother getting a launch day PS2. Coming home from school and playing Tekken Tag Tournament, amazed at this new machine. Simpler times.

The beauty still works, mostly. TTT packed up after about 3 years, and Timesplitters not long after that. For some reason, it lost the ability to play the blue discs that they used at first, but by then I'd already moved on.

My favourite PS2 game has to be Jak 2. The firs game wasa delighful platformer, if a bit short and slightly too much of a collect-a-thon. The third game tried to be a jak of all trades (I hate myself with puns) and din't quite manage it. Jak 2 was pure awesome from start to finish.

So you want moderators to go into topics made about the Dreamcast and stifle out anyone who isn't wearing fanboy rose colored glasses................riiiiiiiiiiiight.....

Regardless, I think you might deserve the '6 degrees of separation' award for the loosest comparison possible between Jake's post and yours :P

I actually just bought a PS2 a couple months ago, it's my 4th one or something. Had a killer urge to waste a week of my life playing FFX, goood times. Now that the games are cheap though, I should catch up on all the games from my 'wanted to play but couldn't afford D:' list.

I got a PS2 back in 2005, great console.

If Sony hadn't killed the Dreamcast then maybe we would have had a real Sonic Adventure 3...

Fuckin' PS2 killed mah DC >=(. J/K.

Anyway to say something on topic:
I got my PS2 in 2002, because we had just moved to Germany and I had nothing. All of my things were still in America adn wouldn't have wored anyways, so my mom felt bad and got me the PS2. My first game was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Shit was, that the game was only in German, and I couldn't speak german at the time, so the game ended up being me either guessing what I had to do or me asking my mom what they just said xP. Diagon Alley was a bitch... After that I got Ratchet and Clank, which luckily could be switched to english..

My favorite game is probably MGS 3. There were alot of great games for it, though, its just that there were more exclusives for GC that interested me, but I still had more PS2 games. Maybe its because I could find them cheaper :/.

Still, isn't it about time the console died. I mean it was supposed to go 10 years and nw it has, right? I mean nowadays its only getting Wii and PSP ports..

I'm not a gamer, and I've never been all that interested in the Playstations all that much. But the fact that it's been here so long is an achievement. The PS2 is a very popular console full of very fantastic games and is/was still a critical moneymaker for Sony.

Well, I want to be able to discuss the Dreamcast without everyone busting out with "why it wasn't so great", but I don't see any moderators enforcing that. :P

LOL. I like the Dreamcast and still consider myself a big Sega fan, but I ain't gonna look stupid and bash a competitor's product just because "it killed the Dreamcast" when Sega killed their own product for putting too many eggs in one basket and, thus, going into debt.

Got mine back in 2002, and my very first game with it: Jak & Daxter. It's easily my favorite gameconsole, simply because of how many games I played on that thing. I think around 80% of my games library is PS2, and I've got more than a few (older) systems. Seriously, I have a big bag standing in my room, which contains around 40 PS2 games I've been meaning to sell or trade in, but never did.

Anyway, the fat old thing still works, which is a miracle on its own, considering how much dust must be inside of it by now. Let's just hope I haven't jinxed it just now... :o Only the controllers are acting up, but that's to be expected after 8 years of (ab)use.

Favorite games.... would be Guilty Gear X2, Star Ocean 3, Soul Calibur 2, Jak & Daxter, Final Fantasy X, and probably a few I can't remember right now.

Happy anniversary, PS2! Here's to the awesome gaming moments you made possible. :D

While this is my least favorite console, I don't hate it. I think it was way overrated, but the console itself was decent. It had some nice console exclusives, but that also goes with my point that it was overrated. Games like Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and God of War were really cool though.

The SEGA DREAMCAST and SONY PLAYSTATIONE were better, and the PS2 was decent itself.
