How would you like to make your own video game consoles? You could make them after real consoles from past generations. If you could make your own, what would they be? Here are my consoles.

Video Entertainment System (VES) - a 4-bit console reminiscent of the Atari 2600.

Playvision - An 8-bit console reminiscent of the Nintendo Entertainment System. It introduces the light gun controller.

Revelation - A 16-bit console reminiscent of the Sega Genesis. Also has a CD-ROM add-on reminiscent of the Sega CD.

Neptune - A 32-bit console. It has superior 2d graphics over the Revelation and has decent 3d graphics, though on the blocky side. It is also the first CD-ROM based console. It introduces the steering wheel controller, as well as the arcade stick controller.

Panther - A 64-bit console reminiscent of the Nintendo 64. It uses superior 3d graphics over the Neptune. It is the first console to allow four controllers at once. It also introduces the rumble pack accessory.

Dynamia - A 128-bit console reminiscent of the Sega Dreamcast, PS2, and Xbox. It is the first console to allow online multiplayer.

Nexus - A console of the current generation reminiscent of the Xbox 360 and PS3. It allows other video games to be downloaded via console. It also introduces wireless controllers.

Hyperbox - Would be a console reminiscent of the upcoming Xbox 720 and PS4.

I don't get this at all. All you've done is rename existing consoles (Neptune, really?), or in the case of the "Hyperbox" you've simply said it will be new. Got any original ideas for systems?

The best I can come up with with be something like a DS, but where the second screen slides out instead of being ever-present. Some DS games make absolute minimal use of the second screens (and GBA games have no use for them at all), so why not shove it away instead of have a whole extra part? In fact, scratch the idea of it being a new system- it's more of a "wouldn't it be cool if the DS did this?" idea.

And it would be kind of redundant to have both the Neptune and the Panther, as it seems to be extrapolating a console generation that never really existed in between the 4th and 5th generation.

I've personally always thought that a PSP/iPhone hybrid would be the perfect handheld (leaning more towards the PSP than the iPhone), but cartridge-based like the DS rather then the nonsense that those two use.

Microsoft/Sega Exodus: a slick and portable console made in combination of Sega and Microsoft working together, and is reminiscent of a more streamlined and hyper-ultra-on-steroids PSP, with it's full screen being the equivalent to a smaller version of the 16:9 widescreen resolution. Button setup would be an analog stick much like the one off the Sega Saturn's NiGHTs controller, and feature the ordinary Xbox face button scheme, and the bumpers and triggers would be set up in a way similar to how they are put on the Wii's Classic Controller. Touch screen and accelerometer power capable of competing with the iPhone's accuracy (because the crappy touchscreen mechanics of the DS aren't gonna cut it with me anymore), but contains a screen that could be pressed down and clicked like some of those newer cellphones out there; but this would allow an all-new sense of feeling with controlling stuff on the touchscreen. Also, like the DS, touchscreen is improved to allow stylus-like movement on it as well. Sixaxis-esque controls are also included on the console (which wouldn't be a problem, especially for racing games, as steering with the console would work fine since the accelerometer will follow in the same general direction, allowing the screen to "not move" while you play). Graphics are capable of the Xbox 360's power, and many Xbox 360 games and such would be easily ported (this especially includes games that were previously exclusive downloads on Xbox Live). And lastly, a Sonic game would be the launch title; presumably Sonic 5.

HEAVEN. ;_;

Well if the Neptune from Sega actually came out then I wouldn't be calling it that.

Personally, I would base my console on PC hardware, as it is generally cheaper to produce and easier to program for than standard console hardware...

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo - 2GHz
RAM: 1GB DDR2
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 150 GTS (1GB Memory Minimum)
Data Storage: 32GB SSD (internal), Dual-Layer DVD Drive (for games and whatnot)
Input/ Output Ports: 4 USB Ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, VGA Out (for HDTVs and EDTVs), Composite Video Out (for SDTVs), RGB SCART Out (maybe, but only on the European version) and a 3.5mm Headphone Jack (well, the MegaDrive had one, so why can't I?).

My dream console would be compatible with PC-88/PC-98 games. Setting one of these up is kind of a pain.

You would make a console with hardware less powerful than the consoles already on the market?

Name: Vim

Appearance: About the height of the 360. Has a streamlined, convex shape that becomes narrower in the middle. The disk slot is on the top half with the eject beneath it, the 2 memory card slots in the middle, 2 USB slots beneath them, 4 controller slots on the bottom and a power button on the side. Comes in red, black, white, green and blue.

Controller: Has two sticks, one left and one right, on the top half. The d-pad is on the bottom left and the four primary buttons (here called the "Earth (image shaped like a mountain), Water (image shaped like a drop), Fire (image shaped like a flame) and Air (image shaped like a cloud) buttons") are on the bottom right. Pause button in the middle, there are four shoulder buttons and the hub button is on the back.

Hub Interface: The hub is like the Wii Menu or the 360 Dashboard. After starting up the system, you are introduced to a wheel with five options on it: Play Zone, Hear Zone, See Zone, Network Zone and Options Zone. Play includes downloaded games, DLC and demos. Hear has music downloaded to your system. Compatible rhythm games can access music directly from this section. See Zone has pictures and downloaded movies/TV shows. Pictures here can be used as the hub background or accessed in compatible games. Network includes the player profile, user messages, news/forecast service, an online store, a friends list and a chat service. Options includes audio and video adjustments as well as hub appearance options. The center of the wheel allows you to start up the disc game. Also, if you hold the start button while booting up, it goes directly to the game without hitting the hub.

Technology: I'm not good at describing specs, but all the technology would be at least up to date with the high-end consoles of its generation.

That's all I can really say for now.

Though they may not look like much, those specifications will definitely provide a brilliant gaming experience, and here's why:

The SEGA Lindbergh arcade hardware (which is famous for Virtua Fighter 5, After Burner Climax and The House of the Dead 4 - some of the best-looking games ever to have existed) ran on a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 processor, and although it provided excellent performance at a very low price, it was soon bettered in every way by the SEGA RingEdge system.

The RingEdge was powered by a 1.8 GHz Pentium Dual-Core processor, and that delivered far better performance than the Lindbergh's Pentium 4. Seeing as the Pentium Dual-Core played second fiddle to the more powerful Core 2 Duo, and that it is out of production (to my knowledge), I thought it only logical to choose the Core 2 Duo.

Graphics-wise, my card of choice is superior to that of the PlayStation 3, Lindbergh, RingEdge and even the ultra powerful Europa-R (a system that we have the awesome Sega Rally 3 to thank for), so it should be sufficient to say the least...

In terms of RAM, my ideal system has twice as much as the PlayStation 3 - I think that says enough!

The GPU is kind of murky compared to the PS3 anyways because the RSX isn't the "real" GPU, so it isn't easy to tell whether a lazy OEM rebadge of a mid-range GPU would be more powerful; and the RAM is another mess because the PS3 has an extremely fast small amount of RAM rather than a slower large amount. A Core 2 Duo of any kind, however, is comprehensively less powerful than the Cell and the Xenon, albeit easier to deal with.

I'd also question how cost efficient a SSD is compared to an HDD. For the price of some 32 GB SSDs out there right now you could easily get a good 300 GB HDD and if you're willing to start pushing boundaries on quality I've seen everything up to 1 TB of storage in that price range.

Despite the price (which, I might add, is rapidly falling), SSDs are extremely efficient, not just in data access speeds; they also use less power, are far more reliable and are generally smaller than their mechanical HDD counterparts. I think that they provide very good value for money, and suit the purpose of internal data storage rather nicely, although that's just my personal opinion...

I have many reasons why I chose that particular GPU; I didn't want to go overboard with some ultra-expensive GeForce 300 series wonder-card, and so thought that a GTS 150 (which is merely a re-badged, more power-efficient, OEM version of the GTS 250 - a high-end GPU from the GeForce 200 series) would be adequate. I also think that it has a rather good amount of memory at a decent speed; 1GB GDDR3 RAM clocked at 1000MHz is much better than what the PS3 provides, so I believe that the graphics card can stay as-is for now...

RAM-wise, I was - in this instance, at least - prepared to sacrifice speed for a higher amount of memory; I don't think that the games would lag too much due to DDR2 latency, as my PC has never had that kind of difficulty...

SEGA MegaDrive 2, retconning the actual MegaDrive 2 in the process (shutup yes I can retcon real life it's my fucking imgination).

Specifications that are, erm, good because I know nothing about actual specs xD.

Games include Sonic Adventure 3, Space Channel 5 part 3, Shenmue 3, Jet Set Radio Even Further Into The Future and a good NiGHTS sequel.

Also Pokemon games are on this system for no apparant reason other than being awesome.

Coming out 2034 true story lie
