Sonic Adventure PSN/XBLA Port

Just got done in the Casino. The camera is absolutely terrible and worse than I remember it being on Dreamcast and Gamecube and the dark blue boarder strains my eyes. These things combined have given me a massive headache. I can't believe they didn't add proper camera controls to the second analogue, the shoulder button controls just don't help. I agree with Gnasher, that the intro's quality is terrible. General controls I haven't had too much problems with, but the analogue directional controls could be a lot more precise.

Now, excuse me while I take some paracetamol.

Analogue control is only 8-way, right? That's probably the problem you're running into, cause seriously it's rather pathetic leaving it like that. The camera hasn't changed since the GC version btw. Either you got used to the better camera of recent titles or you're just seeing things.

I haven't played it yet, but it can't be that bad. I mean all the Xbox'ers loved it.

Is it just the PS3 version that has these problems?

SEGA, I demand a patch!!

I haven't played the GC version for a while, but I don't remember it being that bad, though it probably was as you said. They really should have fixed some of these things.

I wish the demo didn't get 'delayed' I wanted to at least try the damn thing without throwing $10 at it.

Ah well, I guess I'll just wait until I get some more cash. Valkenhayn is considerably more worth my remaining PSN wallet cash.

Not sure what the PS3 controls are like for this, but on the 360 version the analog stick is fully directional, while the D-pad is 8 way and the right analog stick controls the camera along with the triggers which rotate the camera.

It's identical. Also, fun fact, you can't do the Tails in Emerald Coast glitch the way you would have done on the GC or DC. It's like the only thing they fixed in the PC version, even though there's a number of other ways to do it.

The right analogue and shoulder buttons control the camera the same as the Xbox 360, but it's not good enough in my opinion. It would have been better if they fixed the right analogue to control the camera that you actually need to use, not the zoom in and gaze the view camera. The shoulder buttons controlling the main camera are basically useless. My main problem is that the games automatic camera goes all over the place and combined with the border, literally hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. The games main controls aren't much of a problem to me, but the camera is just terrible.

Dude, the camera was always fuckin' terrible in this game.

But it's gotten worse! I don't know how they did it but they did, they made the SA camera even worse than before. I've played the DC and GC version enough to know where the problem areas are on this game, and it feels worse.

....

In fact it is worse, just done the icecap stage here are some highlights.

* Sonic won't grab onto the iceicles.

* Sonics homing attack does not destroy ANYTHING (except that pink badnik that shoots fire).

* It is impossible to kill one badnik without taking a hit yourself.

* The camera zooms in so close to Sonic on the first set of iceicles that it's impossible to know which direction you jump off in unless you've played the game before.

* The snowboarding section has almost zero control.

Just finished Chaos 4 fight and the Egg Carrier Cut scene started... it was worse in quality to the intro.

But anyway.... who would like to see all the effort that went into designing something simple like a controls menu? The one that looks like it was made using MS Paint?

How did Sega mess this one up so bad?

Being re-released over 10 years on should have seen some fixing.

I'm not saying it was great before and I'm not trying to bring up old arguments, I'm just giving my thoughts on it now in this port and how it should have been fixed by now.

I thought we had realized that this was a lazily put together port months ago? I wasn't even sure people here were even going to bother buying it looking at the earlier responses to this topic.

Now people have bought it, suddenly they're angry that they wasted their hard earned cash on it. It's a little upsetting to see, but really, that comes with the risk of buying a port people already said several times looked like garbage.

Now, I haven't personally played it myself, but I wish I could without having to buy it. I even have a Dreamcast with a copy of Adventure in it right under my PS3 to compare.

Yeah we had, and then last week when it got released on XBL an armada of people suddenly said "NOOO!!! NOOO I won't have it!" I've downloaded it and it's fine! Theres nothing wrong at all!" Then there was the constant debunking of the IGN and 1UP reviews.

Also we were talking about how it was just a PC port with little changed... yet here I sit finding that they've somehow managed to make it worse than it was originally. Homing attacks that don't reach the target, badniks that you can't destroy, If I could bring myself to continue the game I'm certain theres more waiting for me... They should probably give you a trophy for finding a new bug or issue that wasn't in the original release, because theres plenty in there to find.

I admit, the 360 one seemed different than I remembered but after a while, it settled with me and it felt like the original again and felt great :D:)

But it IS the same as the PC version. Like, nothing was changed apart from aesthetic details to handle the DLC and controls.

Yeesh, I'm glad I still have the Dreamcast version. But I have such a hard time imagining that they could fuck up a perfectly good (Mostly) game this badly. If the demo ever hits PSN, I'll take a look.

Then again, this is the company that brought us Sonic Genesis on the GBA. That should have been downright impossible to mess up, and yet...

Yeaaaaah I just got my hands on the PSN version (I have an Xbox, and there's no way I would have downloaded it twice) Uh, something's really wrong.

I'm a little confused, becase as far as I'm aware, barring the obvious GUI changes they've had to make for the controllers, etc, both versions of the game (read: PSN and XBLA) should be the PC incarnation, which I own and was fine. I happily downloaded the Xbox version the afternoon it was released on XBLA and barring a few missing special effects and only a few minor camera issues (I mean on top of the issues that game already even had. And having played Sonic Adventure a few thousand times by now, I know which ones are new ones, as would anyone else who's played these as long as I have) but the PSN version somehow feels worse. The camera is doubly awful, the controls do not respond in the correct manner and even has input lag in places. I personally lost my patience with it, but I did finish the XBLA version. I personally feel sorry for Jenny (my friend) as she's bought it for her PSN and thinks she won't have the patience to finish it. I just don't understand how they can differ so much.

Graphically, there are a few bits and pieces missing in both versions, but nothing you miss too much; graphically it seems like low-spec graphics card material (again, played enough to tell the difference) Just... Augh. I don't know if any other PSN users can confirm this for me, but if the PSN version of the game had a face, I would punch it. Possibly tolerable if you're a very, very die hard fan, can't find your Gamecube version anymore, or are under some kind of sedative.

EDIT: Then I remembered something! I wonder if it's had anything to do with attuning the Playstation's controls to the PC version. If anything else, on the PC version, the wired Xbox controller worked perfectly fine (doesn't explain missing/low res graphics though. The PC version didn't really skimp on that one. Though I imagine that had something to do with download size) as it used the Xbox for Windows driver, so I suppose Microsoft always had that working in their favour) but PSN's version... Dear lord. It's just so amazingly unresponsive.

If all this is true, they better fuckin' patch it. What a waste of time. (No wonder there's no demo!)

Mine is still downloading, it's been going for hours and it's been insanely slow, and I have no idea why because everything else on here is going fine.

First the week delay, then it downloads at a snail's pace for me, then I'm hearing that the PSN version is apparently completely broken... This is ridiculous.

Then PSN isn't getting the DLC or a demo until at least next week

@ Syaming Li

Glad to hear me and Gnasher aren't the only ones having these problems.

I think we're more likely to see a patch for Sonic 06 than this.

Has anyone on the Sega forums reported problems? At least some kind of official Sega outlet can get the problems on record... even if they do bugger all about it.

I'm going to have a play on the Xbox 360 demo and then again with my PS3 version and see if I notice any difference.

Nope, SEGA Forums has gone all quiet on the game. The only PS3 version related post in the thread there since the PS3 version released in the U.S. is this one -

i would have liked more trophies. It was a full game, therefore it should have full trophies. They did it for COD so they should have done it for this. The graphics aren't bad. I think most of the people that say this game has bad graphics must be kids. The graphics are fine and look quite nice on my 65 inch in widescreen mode. I like the little border box though. Gives the game that cheap feel.
