The U.S. Official Xbox site Xbox.com has put up a product page for SEGA’s first Kinect for Xbox 360 title Sonic Free Riders where there are some juicy new details about it’s online and offline modes revealed which you can take a look at below -
Offline features:
- Players: 1-4
- Players Co-op: 1-4
- Multiplayer Versus
- In-game Dolby Digital
- HDTV 720p
- Storage Device

Xbox Live Features:
- Players: 2-12
- Content Downloads
- Leaderboards
- Voice Messaging
- Voice Support

The page also reveals the game is being made by Japanese developer O-Two and will be an Xbox Live Arcade title, which is odd as since the games announcement there has been a temporary retail type boxart going around plus SEGA’s product page has the platform listed as Xbox 360 instead of Xbox Live Arcade like they usually list downloadable titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. The official Xbox forum staff have also placed the games sub forum under the Xbox Live Arcade section.

I love everyone. (A.K.A I'm glad it's online and it has content downloads)

The page also reveals the game is being made by Japanese developer O-Two

Oh. That's new. It seems that Sonic Team isn't making the game unlike the other two.

Edit: I might get the Kinect at launch.. This and some other games are getting me hyped up for it. Is anyone else getting it at launch?

Yet ANOTHER edit: I have to honestly say I've never heard of the developer O-Two. But, their website seems funky :P

Hmm Online play I see haha that will be dead after a few weeks after Kinect's release just like like Sega Superstars Tennis and ASR online play a ghost town * watches tumble weed go past on the Multiplayer online SST & ASR bit XD*

Never heard of O-Two before though well yeah I have heard the name before but that the mobile phone company XD, if it's a Arcade game why was it in a Xbox 360 box art and not a XBLA instead :/ I doubt will we get leaks of this then of gameplay (if on XBLA) since it will be impossible to play since the hackers won't have Kinect to play it on XD but they could rip music and sound effects and other stuff from it.

It has 1-4 players listed offline, I can't help but wonder how Kinect will pick up 4 people playing in front of it and how it will do it accurately. We've seen 2 player split-screen in action and that seemed to work fine but surely 4 people is a push?

It's good to finally see online multiplayer in a Riders game.

DLC and 12 players online? YES PELASE.

Only problem is it's for Kinect. I still think next to no one's gonna get that thing. Sega, you MUST reconsider the no controller bit. This game is guaranteed to BOMB without it!

Agreed. no controller makes me unhappy maybe just a "controller optional" option would be nice that way both motion people and controller people can play.

The game would probably come with Kinect if it only used it.

I agree on the Kinect bit, but it has to lack controller support. As a Kinect launch title it's designed to make people want the Kinect.

And O-Two... Interesting. So Sonic Team isn't bearing all this work itself then. They don't seem to have much of a resume and the game looks identical enough to the other Riders titles. I wonder if Sega just handed them a bunch of recycled assets and told them to make the most of it.

O-Two worked in part on Zero Gravity or Shooting Star Story as it's known there in Japan -

Even if there weren't any online features, because of kinect's only option of playing the game, the sales won't be as high as if they added the option of using a controller.
Because its a kinect usage only game, they won't be making much money as they can't sell it for PS3 &/or Wii.
Even if there's a tutorial, because we won't be able to use a controller people are gonna start raging on it.

If SEGA ain't thinking twice about it and put a controller option added, their already making a huge mistake.

O-Two helped out with Zero Gravity, as I've heard. I doubt they're doing the whole game, but they're probably doing the same thing they did with ZG--work with Sonic Team on the game. Its possible that someone heard O-Two was involved and so whoever put that page up on X-Box Live Arcade (or wherever it was) listed the developer as O-Two.

So I was browsing Sega's Press Vault while gathering all of the Colors stuff, I glanced at Free Riders' section, and guess what, the format (platform) was TBC. O_o

All other listings had their platforms shown, and even Sonic 4 had three different sections for all three consoles, but Free Riders had TBC as its platform, even though it was announced as a 360 Kinect game.

What if... there's another platform involved? DUN DUN DUUUN!
