I'm not entirely sure what to think of this, seeing as I fully expected Cream and Big to see a bit more action, seeing as they have been constantly appearing since their introduction/reintroduction. Though at the same time, the composition of this team just seems bad, seeing as they have two newbies with little to no actual training, and Rotor who is incredibly useful in his powersuit, but still is a heavy hindrance if say Regina came along, or he were to be caught without it. Though I'm not sure about Heavy and Bomb, seeing as I've never seen how they work in Archie, ergo I'm not sure if they're as useless as they were in Knuckles Chaotix or not

Though really, this is quite a curveball as said before

I don't know about that. I mean, they've referred to those guys as "The Secret Freedom Fighters" and I kinda thought they'd stick to that title. Why do I feel Team Freedom may have Cream and Big?
As for Rotor, I'm unsure how him quitting the council means he can't be a Freedom Fighter. Doesn't that mean he'd have more chance to get into action? As for Bunnie and Antoine I expect it will be a while before they join the freigh anyway.

For once in my life I can actually say, called it. Though Heavy and Bomb? I kinda forget when they left us. Anyone fill me in?

Depends on which models we're talking about. The last time they were seen technically was in #154, where they'd tried and failed to blow up Mina at a concert and their fate was left unknown. However, these were just Eggman-built copies.

The originals were last seen in #102, where Eggman turned them against the good guys before Tails and Rotor deactivated and disassembled them.

Oh yeah! #102! First issue I picked up back when I was around tenish! I remember how OOC Sonic was, murdering a sentient being in cold blood just cause they were robots :/ Yes, they needed to be disabled, but come on! That scene was actually pretty chilling...

What the hell are you on about? Spaz' Adventure art always looked mediocre at best, but he's pretty damned good at the airbrushed style. This cover looks great, unlike the one by Mr. Greg.

The point is the comics themselves moved into the Adventure art style at the point the archives are currently at. The archives covers themselves should make the same shift to reflect that, not some awkward hybrid between classic and modern that would have Sonic 4 haters foaming at the mouth.

I've managed to read alot of back issues,and... the characters seem pretty generic from where I am right now,and apart from the very beginning of the series where they act like their SatAM selves, there isn't anything I can really pick out of the characters ... any advice on what issues I should actually be going for?

185 on is a good place to start.up again. if you start at 183 your just trying to fit yourself into the previous arc which goes on for another issue.

A review of archie comics issue 235 by a disgruntled fellow.

You know, in my last two archie comics reviews I commented on the remarkable rise of Antoine, in two issues he had one of the strongest performances of any character in any Archie sonic comic I’d ever read. I also went onto say that crying fan boys should get a life and it would probably be better if Antoine did die because he would never be as high or as impressive as he was at that particular moment. And this comes from someone who utterly hated Antoine in the original SatAM and wasn’t too fond of him in the few Archie comics I had read.

Antoine was really impressive and quickly became my favourite character from those two issues alone...
Well lets take a look at Archie comics 235... and if the cover is anything to go by then Archie hasn’t been brave, they’ve caved in and Antoine is alive, however given how most previous Archie comics covers have been utter bollocks that haven’t actually been a great representation of what happens in the story. So let’s look at issue 235 and see if our initial impressions are wrong and we start! With Silver?

Hmmm alright... I thought we’d be going after the Death Egg but... ok we’re on Ony Island... Oh wait hang on...

*puts on Shatners voice.*

Captains log, Onyx Island, stardate 3437 P.X.E. I.... have... no idea if that’s the future or not... since P.X.E. is a fictional time frame... and... I... have never seen this... in any Archie comic for the past year... Never-the-less-I-suspect... it is the future since... everything is all torn and ruined... we’ll see what Silver is looking for... what-it-is... God only knows.

And with that we’re back in the present and AWWW COME ON! Antoine is alive! He’s alive! HE’S ALIVE!
Well he’s on a coma, but come on, you built Antoine up and up and up he could have died and he would have gone out on one hell of an epic fight and nobody could have said it was a good end to the character because he was at his best at that moment. There was no cheap super powers, as he said in that rather nice side story when Bunnie was coming to terms with her lack of powers, he did it with his own still, including the court battle that he won. Both physical and mental peak.

But Bunnie is sad and understandably so, so urm... what happens in this scene... Bunny tells Antoine that he always treated her nice... awww... and that’s about it... and she leaves... ah well that scene which lasted for two pages was... ... let’s think about that.

So we’re back in the future with Silver again and I seem to think that maybe Archie comics should go to the stationary shop since it’s obvious the only colour they have left on the paint shelf was brown when making this section. For the next 3 pages every single piece of artwork is a different shade of brown...

So what’s the matter with Silver? Well he seems to be looking for a traitor, a traitor in Sonic’s group.. Oh skunk boy/Geoffrey St. John right... no? ... ... Ok Silver... lets hear what you think... Antoine... Oh you mean the guy we just saw in a coma? Yes I understand we’re trying to see Silver’s reasoning for it, but when silvers reasoning involves reading one diary entry that says ‘I don’t particularly like Sonic’ that a tad little to start pointing the finger at people and yelling TRAITOR!

So Silver goes back in time to the present day and...

Wait a second... if Silver can time travel, why doesn’t he just live out in the present until the ‘great disaster happens’ then go back in time and tell his own self or someone else who knows him what causes it, then he wouldn’t look like an idiot in... ... ... MARTY! WE GOTTA GET TO THE TORNADO QUICK!

Alright then lets continue... so Tails is busy building something and the colour of the page appears to be purple. So Tails cries because he’s upset over Antoine’s condition and so does urm... Commander Nick Fox Fury?

Well I suppose it’s understandable after all Tails has never seen anything... WAIT A SECOND!

Tails was around since the early years of Archie comics if I’m not mistaken, he was around when Robotnik was in full control and even went out on missions, even if you leave aside the whole ‘it’s not like the game!’ argument, in the comic he was there when Robotnik was at his most powerful and even when the hideouts were attacked directly and people had in fact died (sometimes more than once in some cases), he saw people get captured and turned to robots! But now he decides to cry? WHY!? Was he ever close friends with Antoine? Did he have a romantic interest? No. So why is he so upset? He’s acting as if this is the first time he has ever seen one of his friends or seen someone who was a freedom fighter ever seriously hurt or worse.

Alright fuck that scene lets see what the... oh Christ... council of... places is doing about... NICOLE!?
Wait just a second! Antoine is near dead! Sally is a robot! Eggman is flying around in a battle fortress of doom capable of launching killer robots! And the government is deciding what to do with Nicole!?

What is it about planet Mobius that brings out the moron in whoever is running it! Even King Bat-Faced-Monkey Man must be aware the Death Egg is a threat! We’ve seen that his magic is useless against it and how the death egg more or less wiped out an entire city. Yet the council and Bat-Faced-Monkey man are debating what to do with Nicole!? WHY!? Surely there’s a bigger threat, surely the Death Egg is a vastly superior issue to be dealing with right now!?

So for reasons that, not even the characters in the comic seem to understand, the council votes to get rid of Nicole, except for Rotor who promptly quits in protest... well that’ll show em?

Wait a second!?

The reason they’re giving Nicole the boot is because “Failure during the battle bird armadas invasion.” What the hell was that!? When did that happ.. ... Oh... SONIC UNIVERSE!

Christ almighty, putting aside the fact that not only does this punish readers of this comic for not getting another what is supposed to be separate comic with little to no relation to the main one... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Correct me if I’m wrong, but did Nicole not help to disable the Death Egg when it was destroying a city moments before the bird men attacked in a totally un-related comic!? What did Bat-Faced-Monkey man do!? So they’re effectively banishing Nicole because she helped out in the wrong battle!?
What the hell is wrong with whoever is governing Mobius!?

The Acorn family are a bunch of fucking morons, (see an earlier review I did for reasons as to why), Monkey Man is so consumed with looking like a good king he doesn’t realise there’s a much more powerful enemy flying in the sky above him. The council have made nothing but crap decisions for the last 20 issues, and Dr Eggman is pretty much just going ‘Muhahaha now to destroy the freedom fighters and the city.... hmmmm well maybe later!’

Mr Ali, how do you respond to complaints that your government isn't doing anything about the Death Egg?

Don't believe them! There is no Death Egg! We are winning!

Somebody! Call Galactus, tell him to find Mobius and put this miserable world out of its misery already since nobody else has a clue what to do!

Alright fuck the rulers, lets see what Amy Rose is up to.

So Amy is at Sonic’s house, Sonic is in his room plucking a guitar, Amy goes for tea with original the hedgehog and... ... .... ... . Sonic’s Robot hedgehog unicorn butler it seems. So Amy like Tails also starts to cry... ... why?

Well, the reason is that Amy hasn’t been able to grieve yet and she’s been so busy bottling it up it’s finally spilled over but... that was kinda quick, one entire frame Amy Rose has a breakdown, would it not have been better to stretch this out? To actually show it getting to Amy? You know... BEING SUBTLE!?

Well maybe Sonic has a more realistic emotional response, oh well we don’t find out because Silver comes to his window and WHOA JESUS! Sonic destroys his own house just to spin attack Silver. That’s it Sonic! Put him out of our misery!

Oh wait he’s taking him to the hospital... sorry I have to do it as Bat-Faced-Monkey man did it the other month...

So Silver sees Antoine in his bed and we also BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! *looks at Antoine again* Mu-HU-HU-HAHAHAHHAHAHA! *looks again* WHA-HAHAHAHAHA! Oh man... oh man... all that build up and... the doctors decided that the best cure for Antoine was to look in the Loony Toons medical book and bandage him like Wile E Coyote! The mouth! The nose! They bandaged his entire mouth and nose!? Why!? Wouldn’t it have been more shocking just to see him lying there with a heard monitor by him? Or have a sign saying ‘intensive care?’ Tom looks like he has more serious injuries at moments in this cartoon.



So realising his mistake and Sonic discovering Bunny has left Silver... changes his mind as to who the traitor is...

No writers... NO NO NO NO NO NO! I refuse to believe, even Silver, is that stupid! He changes his mind in the space of half a second!? Right there in front of Sonic and the near dead Antoine!? So Sonic yells at Silver and he leaves the hospital and with any luck the rest of the comic, but... oh great Skunk boy is here now and he’s paying his respects to Antoine.

Actually... this was kinda nice, if not a tad cool, even Mr St. John admits that Antoine was the better man and put on one hell of a performance, he doesn’t get emotional or have a breakdown, he pays his respects and leaves.

We also get... oh please don’t show us Antoine again... it’s too funny!

So Silver is the one depressed now and sitting in the park when Harvey Who walks by and recruits him to the secret freedom fighters. Who are the secret freedom fighters? Well we find out in... Sonic Universe? SONIC UNIVERSE!?

This entire comic was nothing more than a build up for getting people to buy Sonic Universe!? What the bloody hell! The entire issue was just a reason for Silver to join the secret freedom fighters!? AND WE HAVE TO BUY A DIFFERENT COMIC TO FIND OUT WHY!? It feels like it was not written by a writer but more like it was written by an editior who decided 'ya know' we could really do to sell more issues of Sonic Universe... lets start crossing over comics all the time so people have no choice than writing good stories.'

THIS COMIC WAS CRAP!

The artwork whilst not being bad seems to have this strange issue where there is a brown or purple colour wash over the entire page! The story is ridiculous considering what happened in the previous issue! Whilst we don’t get an exact time frame days if not weeks have past since that issue and... Oh yeah WHY ISN’T ANYBODY DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THE DEATH EGG!? Nobody seems want to do anything about it... EVEN EGGMAN!

Silvers entire presence in this comic was just for him to join the secret freedom fighters and at the same time make him out to be a complete idiot. Yet in order to see the consequences of that we have to buy several issues of another comic!? Piss off!

AND ANOTHER THING!

Here’s something we can do that we’ve never been able to do before because there’s never been a character on a similar level of friendship to Sonic...

Lets... COMPARE THAT DEATH! *plays a theme tune.*

On one hand we have how the characters coped with Antoines death/coma, on the other we have, how the fleetway characters coped with Johnny’s death.

So we’ve seen that initially the reactions are quite similar, Sonic is horrified, everyone else is in tears/worried sick.

So how does Archie Sonic react? Well sits in his room and plucks a guitar whilst thinking about all the times he’s teased Antoine and how he was a bit of a jerk, almost like he was abusing his power, until he destroys his house trying to get at Silver.

How does Fleetway Sonic react... oh... Sonic spends the next few days re-living the moment of Johnny’s death by having nightmares, Amy has to stay with Sonic in order to try and help him cope with the mental torment that he’s going through, Sonic at one point goes off on his own and it’s only through some soul searching with the help of Tikal is he able to get over his guilt for putting his friends in danger and... Yeah I think it’s safe to say that any argument people had about Archie being the more grown up in its approach to issues is like Ken Penders legal case... a tad dead.

So yes, issue 235... Nice cover, but if you thought that would mean a great story, Tom has these words for you...

You wern't even an avid fan of the comics until recently Hoggy and you state it constantly, to be continuing these reviews and judging it soo harshly without at least going back a few arcs to know whats going on just seems...wrong.

Its like taking a random fan whos only been watching the game universe and throwing him into a middle of an arc and, without telling him a thing, tell him to write a review of it. minus your interesting quips you would end up with pretty much the same result. Your review is entertaining, but so is trolling and watching people get into a shitfit over your trolling and enjoying the hell out of it. this seems like a similar case.

I would suspend these reviews for a while and do some backtracking. you don't seem to understand allot about the US comic.
