Anyone planning on getting this game should heed my words.(DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS YET!!! READ FIRST!)

There is some kind of special DLC/Reward that you can win right now.

If you go to the official Dark Souls website and enter your age as above 17, theres a VERY secret mini game that you can play.

When the page loads up, theres a dude who looks a lot like Yurt from demons souls, behind him is a stone wall, some of these stones have markings on them.

Everyday you are given the chance to click a 30 stone sequence, get it right and you win a reward, get it wrong and you must wait 24 hours in order to try again?

Sounds easy right? Well no... because everyday the sequence changes... for each individual.

However... there is a way to get it in one shot.

Follow this advice, and you'll get it on your first attempt.

You do need to download google chrome in order to pull off the trick.

Once you enter the correct sequence, the website will ask for your email, you'll then be sent a special numbered code (every code is different, they're not PSN/XBL redemption codes) and the promise that this code will help you in your future battle. It sounds like it's some kind of special DLC, but we'll have to wait and see on that one.

But if you plan on getting this game, defiantely give this a shot since it'll probably be some kind of free limited edition DLC.

Link to the Dark Souls website... Good Luck.

I'm kind of perplexed by From Software's approach to sequels. The Armored Core franchise rebooted its canon for Armored Core 3 and again for 4 without changing the title of the series, yet this has the same motifs, design philosophy and genre as its predecessor, yet they merely call it a "spiritual successor." I mean, why do they bother to keep rebooting their canons if they're going to go down the same road with the next installment?

I suspect it's to do with politics as apposed to what they want.

Demons Souls was a PS3 exclusive and it was said to be the spiritual successor to Kings Field, whilst you can see the influences, Kings Field is very different to Demons Souls, so it makes no sense to call Demons Souls Kings Field (insert number here).

With regards to Dark Souls... I suspect that one reason for the change is that this game whilst 'looking' exactly like Demons Souls... it has a lot of VERY different features, most notible of those would be how you heal in this game and the guilds feature which isn't in Demons Souls at all...

However... I suspect another reason might have something to do with Namco.

Namco took the EU distribution of Demons Souls, and they did a piss poor job of it too, from the quality of the special edition to the online support, it was piss poor. But now that Namco is in charge of the entire western distribution, I have a feeling that they're the reason for the Xbox 360 release as apposed to From Software who are keeping it PS3 only in their distribution areas. With that in mind, I suspect there would be a few licensing issues had they gone for the title 'demons souls.'

The deal with the reboots is that the story had become a bit bananas and From has a tendency to kill off most of the important characters and organizations the longer a storyline goes on. By the end of the story begun with armored core 3, all but one Raven (The player) is dead. I'm pretty sure AC 5 is going to be another reboot considering how little is left of the world (mostly thanks to, well, you) in two of the three endings. The classic story that started with the PS1 games isn't really missed that much because it didn't end so much as it just petered out.

Funny thing though, I originally thought based on the trailers that Armored Core 4 was going to take place during the war that originally put humanity into the underground cities as seen in AC1 (based on seemingly modern military stuff mostly taking the place of MTs, and the more advanced ACs), and the way the story goes isn't that far off until the end of For Answer.

Anyway, a few days ago I listened to this podcast on Gametrailers about Dark Souls, and this game sounds substantially different from Demon's Souls in terms of its structure. It won't be so simple to finish as Demon's Souls, you won't just be aiming to kill all the demons. They haven't released many details yet, but its going to be a strange one.

BREATHE GOD DAMN IT

YEAH YA BEST BELIEVE, BOY THERE'S HELL TO PAY

The Trailer is awesome, and the Folk Rock in the background is also badass, but it's not fitting to the atmosphere. So, after looking at that, take a look at this:

Who knows, if they're like Amazon they might have a preorder price guarantee, like if it's cheap when you order that's the price you pay and if the price decreases before the order ships you get that price instead.

And off topic were you able to buy Catherine, the Limited Edition?

Grrr... just noticed Zavvi are selling it for £36. And no the price won't go down due to it being ordered at Game, they never reduce their prices once they're on the site before the game is released... well unless it's something utterly ridiculous like a million pounds.

And off topic were you able to buy Catherine, the Limited Edition?

Yes I certainly did. Managed to order one from Videogamesplus.Ca. took a while to get here (seemed to be a trend looking at ps3trophies.org for UK orders on that website). But it eventually came in full.

Urm... this is a little interesting.

I was just looking at the Playstation Store and they have a section for Gamescom. If you go into it you see lists for most of the games featured there, including Dark Souls.

Clicking into it you are then taken to a Dark Souls section of the store, it has several trailers and one very interesting choice that says "TRY". Selecting this though brings up a 'content not found' error.

Could this mean that we're getting a demo soon?

3rd post in a row... man why does nobody but me care for this game?

Anyway. Dark Souls appears to be getting some episodic stories in the run up to it's release. It's basically a back story to Dark Souls, I do not know if these will be in the final game or not.

The video is quite short, but there is a very small nod to Demons Souls during the video.

Episode 1: Prologue.

I would care for this game and I obviously do since I periodically check the forum. Money is going to be tight for me until the end of Christmas so I might have to begrudgingly look over this game for now

As for the gameplay, it looks tremendous. I never played Demon Souls(I know. Bad PS3 owner), but I might just pick that up and see what the fuss is about.

If you do, make it soon. Demon's Souls' multiplayer was probably its most interesting and innovative feature, but its set to go offline in October. Unless From decides to delay the shut down again, I would wait it out for Dark Souls and let the predecessor slide if your THAT strapped for cash.

I've had the special edition preordered since the very second it came up :3

But are on media blackout so I cannot comment on new screens, trailers or gameplay videos. Don't want any of the suprise rape found in each level spoiled, for the purest Demon's Souls experience.

Servers are handled by Atlus in USA and Namco in EU. I have the feeling Namco will not extend their server support just to make the fanbase buy Dark Souls. As if we weren't going to already!

There is no fuss, just bring me a red hot demon's soul and I can forge weapons for you, for a fair price of course.

Time for some good news... some bad news (depending where you are in the world)... and some owwww spoiler news.

First of all the slightly bad news.

The collectors edition, the one which you get if you pre-order the game. Theres two different versions depending where you live in the world... ... and the US version is sadly much poorer than the EU one.

This is the EU version.

The EU Collectors Edition comes in a cardboard box (very similar to the Black Phantom edition of Demons Souls, or the Bayonetta climax edition. It comes with a physical making-of/behind the scenes thing, a physical art book, a physical soundtrack and a code for a digital strategy guide

The US version however has one very significant difference.

It comes in a steel book case. Almost all the extras... are digital downloads! Due to the size of the metal case, the strategy guide has to be digital. There might be one thing which is a physical copy, that being either the OST or the artbook, this has yet to be confirmed.

But as it stands right now, the bonus features for the US version are almost all Digital downloads and not physical copies like the EU counterpart is.

Now for the good news.

Part 2 of the Dark Souls prologue story is now online. It's amazing.

Spoiler

Now for the spoilers... The achievement/trophy list has been shown, it's quite a good list.

Spoiler

I see Hogfather has already posted the Xbox 360 Achievements list, but I thought PS3 owners would like to know that the Trophy list is up now, too.
http://www.ps3trophi...Dark-Souls.html

I know it's the same list, but thought PS3 owners would like to see what each one's worth in the Trophy system.

This people... this is how you prevent people from playing the game too early.

You know how sometimes a game gets released early and the devs usually do things like reset stats to 0 on the release date? Or sometimes give them temp bans?

From Software has a far better solution.

Some people in Japan got the game early from a date breaking store... so how has From Software delt with the problem? They're still letting them play the game, however theres one small problem, if they connect to the online game, they'll find that From Software is dropping into their game, totally at random. Max level Black Phantoms!

At any level, at any stage, if a player is online they'll end up with a random black phantom that has max stats! Even during the very first stage.

Source.
