Shadow The Hedgehog Hacking

So a member by the name of "total" AKA softman on Retro has been showing off some work he has been doing with shadow the hedgehog.

First off, the awesome thing! Model swapping:

Heres softman's imput:

Honestly, this was some kind of "quick and dirty port" and I expected the game to crash (because of potential problems with skeletal animation), but everything worked just fine (with sonic's model at least). I have not looked at animations format yet, but it is obviously different than heroes' I think.

When I try to load black bull boss stage the game freezes. Not really sure why.

I tested different models and everything was ok (looks like every model is split into the same parts, so it can be used with another "skeleton"). But every part (head, hands) has different spawning points (I.e. relative positions), so the problem comes only if using model with mismatching proportions (maria). The only way to fix this is...figuring out bones (*.bon files?) and animations (*.mtp files?) format.

So it seems to work with models that share similar skeletal structures I.E. you can have amy with gunz but not maria or black doom squid thing.

Second off he and a friend of his a member by the name of "ashthedragon" and "DaGuAr" have found the test level of SHTH:

Yeah i know the vibe your getting from this. Shadow Hedgehawk's Pro Skater!

A quote from ashthedragon about extras found in the test levels:

From file STG0002

http://I.imgur.com/NOsA4.png

Some sort of road cut down , looks like speed highway someway

From file STG0003 :

http://I.imgur.com/nwMaT.png

the bsp file for this is called STG0300_COLI_01.bsp ... and the 3D model is just a plain?!

From file STG0005 ( yes, no STG0004 )

http://I.imgur.com/eEzSe.png

Only two plains one over the another.

There is also some files called stg0000_texCM.one and similar names, who he suspect contains the textures, but he doesn't know how to open them ( he can open other TDX from the game )

At the moment theres no AR (action replay) codes for GC or PS2 because simply no one knows how. if anyone has experence with AR coding and would like to help heres the retro topic:

If they manage to get Super Shadow working (minus air dash) I may actually get this game again or something.

If they manage to get Vector working, I will be in all kinds of Heaven.

Vector the Crocodile, a renegade detective long past his prime, is now on the run from the law and a group of reptilian aliens, aided by only a few fury comrades. Vector must take to the streets, guns and vehicles in hand, to find that computer room.

Game of all years. I am also excited for those Vector Androids. Make it happen.

It would've been so cool if that crazy loop de loop was in the actual game. There were crazy loops like that in Heroes, but it didn't feel as cool going thru them in that game because of the wonky way it looked when the characters ran. But going thru a loop like that with Shadows physics would've at least looked much better.

Am I the only one who thinks sonic with the gun looks so much better?

I mean seriously, it makes him look like he's finally had enough of Robotnik! (yeah!...I said Robotnik B) )

I want to see a video of that model swap, it may be pretty funny seeing some of these characters hold a gun.

To bad Professor Gerald can't be swapped with Shadow due to the bones - him holding guns and facing Eggman would be hilarious.

Apparently there was more cut dialogue in the game as I suspected. Someone mentioned that Sonic was supposed to have 2P dialogue.

Guys, check this out:

================================================

There is almost nothing I can do to fix this without more or less complete format specs. And I doubt if 100% accurate *.one packer is even possible.

In other words, I am done with that. I am not going to waste my time anymore on this alone. If anyone can help me figuring out formats - welcome to PM (I almost sure that nobody will, but why not ask anyway).

Best regards.

PS: and the last, but not least:

- thanks to everyone who voted 5 in my profile

- fuck you shitheads who voted 1 or 2 (seriously, why did you do it at all? What is you problem?). But you know, I do not care anymore.

Don't expect any more to come from this it was just a "proof of concept" type of thing but be glad that you know it can be done and hey if you know anything about the formats hes asking about, he could use some help.

lol, Sonic (Or Shadow, as he calls himself) defeated Sonic and got all the Chaos Emeralds XD

I¡d like to see how other models would look.

Also, they keep mentioning the unused dialogues/voice clips. I can't find them anywhere. Does someone know where can I?

Seeing sonic laugh at himself is funny, but seeing himself laughing like a villain and calling himself Shadow..Is even funnier :D

For those of you that don't know, using the second controller you can control the character that is following Shadow except Eggman's Monitor and I think Maria.

With this model swap we can play as the classic duo Sonic and Tails through edgy, dark stages! YEAH!

(Also it would be funny if the Riders ZG models are compatible and someone put Silver in).

A few corrections. First, you could control all characters (including Maria) except the flying characters, which were Eggman, Doon's Eye, and Charmy.

But this wasn't in every version of the game. There were a series of thing you could do, easter eggs, that only worked in certain versions of the game. It's been a long time now, but I remember the Gamecube version has an allowance for a clear-screen pause (a way to pause without seeing the pause screen) and the partner being playable with the second controller, PS2 was 2nd controller but no clear pause, and Xbox had clear pause but no second controller. I also remember there's one thing the PS2 and Xbox versions had the Gamecube did not.

I might have the order slightly screwed, but I remember there were very minor easter egg differences in the game and that one version of the game did not support your partner being controllable. Whatever the case, we more are talking about this character replacing Shadow in the game for the lolz.

Replace Shadow with Amy and fight Sonic, just for the evil laugh at the end!!

With new hacking technology, we can confirm that Sonic has a purple radioactive brain.

The level looks neat. Going back to the model swapping, if he was able to swap Shadow's model, isn't possible to swap Sonic's with another one?

I have a question for anyone who has played this game on XBox and PS2:

Does Shadow anywhere have a tutorial with Dr. Eggman where he sets up targets? If not, then I might have ran across an unused mode in the voice files.

EDIT: all03_h14_eg is an actual Japanese Eggman voiceclip. I need a translation for this.
