A Jewish rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a stray dog it feared was the reincarnation of a lawyer who insulted its judges, reports say.

The dog entered the Jerusalem financial court several weeks ago and would not leave, reports Israeli website Ynet.

It reminded a judge of a curse passed on a now deceased secular lawyer about 20 years ago, when judges bid his spirit to enter the body of a dog.

The animal is said to have escaped before the sentence was carried out.

One of the judges at the court in the city's ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighbourhood had reportedly asked local children to carry out the sentence.

An animal welfare organisation filed a complaint with the police against a court official, who denied reports that judges had ordered the dog's stoning, according to Ynet.

But a court manager told Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot the stoning had been ordered as "as an appropriate way to 'get back at' the spirit which entered the poor dog", according to Ynet.

Dogs are considered impure animals in traditional Judaism.

Really? Really? Fucking really?? Wow. It's not really hard to see why they kill each other because they believe some other equally improbably bollocks is it. The world will be a better place when they all fuck off in a puff of their own illogical, xenophobic, closed-minded smoke.

Stoning animals for killing a human being is in Jewish doctrine.

Reincarnation however, is not. I don't understand why an honest Rabbi would come to that conclusion.

EDIT: And according to their doctrine, they cannot condemn spirits either. Okay... is this some sort of cult?

Because it's unfair to judge a country full of people for the actions of extremists?

People are already starting to talk shit about Judaism, yet I gaurantee these same people would have their lips sealed if a bunch of Muslims did the same thing. That's not to say Muslims are evil either, no. That's not my point. My point is that Jewish people get ripped on by just about EVERYONE, from all sides of the political spectrum, from every corner of the globe. So when this dog-stoning shit happens, people can vent their anti-semitism without looking bad because its under the guise of scolding them for stoning the dog.

Also, why the fuck did you bring up de-funding Israel, Preston? Are you suggesting that you want them to LEAVE? If so, you realize that's the exact same rhetoric used by the Nazis. Yes, before the genocide started, part of what Hitler wanted to do was to "put the Jews back where they belong: Israel." Now you're saying, "Put the Jews back where they belong: Europe."

That's insane. Israel is one of the only countries in the middle east that upholds democratic values, and you're suggesting they disband? Give me a break.

I had my doubts, okay?

I will admit this really proves the ineffectiveness of theocracy. We had the Salem Witch Trials in America, the Inquisition in Europe, the execution of women for being raped in several Islamic countries, and now the stoning of a fucking dog for procrastinating.

Theocracy sucks.

Anyway. This is ridiculous, reincarnation into a dog? Puh-leaze.

Everybody knows that that lawyer is in the fiery depths of hell right now. Where all Lawyers should be.

God damn those creatures of Satan.

So is Religion. I was refering to Religious people but not all Religious people, I was refering to these nutty extremist backwards morons who put their beliefs before others and come up with bullshit like this.

Please no need to be defensive.

There's quite a difference between "people" and "nutty extremist backwards morons who put their beliefs before others and come up with bullshit like this." I understand you intended something different, but you need to be careful with dictation. It can prevent a lot of arguments over the Internet.

And I'm not being defensive. Trust me. You wouldn't like me when I'm defensive. You'd be seeing paragraphs.

................Really? A STONING?!

Well, I WOULD place an Eric Cartman quote somewhere here, but considering how much we all seem to hate antisemitism, I'll just say that it's crazy to stone animals to death. ESPECIALLY when they haven't really done anything wrong.

I lived in Jerusalem for nine months. Meyah She'arim is the name of the street and neighborhood where the super-religious reside, it was in the article. It's the kind of neighborhood where they will force you to leave if you're dressed immodestly. They have permission from the city to block off certain streets in this part of town on the sabbath too. There are many modern religious people who know how to compromise with the secular world. These groups tend to be very old school and unyielding.

That said let's explain the story. Jewish law is handed down by a panel of three dudes, any three guys knowledgeable in Judaism. Usually for purposes like marriage, divorce, or conversion, religious matters, and normal arbitration like you see on judge TV. It's called a beit din. In more religious communities, they prefer to settle disputes like this instead of going to court, since they generally distrust the state. If the panel settles one way, they are respected enough to be listened to.

It looks like what happened here was this panel of rabbis had beef with some lawyer, and used their reputation to talk shit about him after he died. Not very nice. Like Indigo said, I don't think they are allowed to sentence an animal to death (or they are crazy) unless it's proven to be violent, so it's possible they're speaking loudly to make a point. Either way these guys get down way too hardcore for me, I'll respect your religion and all but these guys need to step out into the world for some goddamn sunlight.

Reincarnation however, is not.

Last I heard, Jewish people didn't believe in reincarnation.

Judaism does believe in reincarnation in specific cases, usually because the soul did not achieve its purpose in the world before dying. Some people believe King David was a reincarnation of Esau, because Esau was meant to help repair the world with his twin brother Jacob but didn't. It is used to say why both had reddish hair. It's also said that when a child dies it's because it was a great person in a previous life, who only had little to accomplish before passing on. Lol, can you tell I grew up religious.

BUT reincarnation can also be a punishment for the wicked, such as reincarnation as a lower animal, which is how these rabbis in their own way are talking shit.

The world will be a better place when they all fuck off in a puff of their own illogical, xenophobic, closed-minded smoke.

Xenophobic about dogs? I really wonder why you care about Israel so much Patticus. Like half of your political posts are about the conflict, man.
