About Me

Hi. I'm Reading. I'm a guy who enjoys creating, socializing, and video games. I like having a good time, and enjoy myself whether I'm alone or with others.

...Well, first things first, I am not "furry" in any way, shape, or form, despite what my avatar might imply. "Reading the Fox" is a character I created a long time ago because I liked Tails. I certainly wouldn't have done that now, but I've always used this same avatar at the few other forums I visit, and they've grown used to it. Seriously - on the first forum I signed up at, I've changed my avatar twice in two and a half years; the first change eliminated some pointless text at the bottom, and for the second, a friend of mine made an animation of my character that I adopted as my avatar. One person even commented that my avatar has been pretty much the same thing the whole time, and advised me not to change it when someone else suggested I did. He said "It's his symbol that's been there forever." Wow. So, yeah, Reading the Fox is mostly just my icon. If I truly were "furry", you can bet I'd have put more effort into my character rather than just making it a Tails clone.

I'm also not a "mainstream gamer" by any definition. The range of video games I play is quite narrow; the only franchises I consistently follow are Mario, Sonic, Kirby, and Pikmin. I don't follow gaming websites, shows, or anything, and I never read reviews before buying games; I've almost never disliked any game I bought out of my own interest. I tend to look at games differently than people on this site may; I put lots of attention into the story (I hate excuse plots and am annoyed when franchises use the same basic plot structure more than a few times) and how much I'm "thinking" while playing the game, i.e. solving puzzles and using problem-solving skills and the like rather than holding a button to win. I ignore technical faults for the most part; for instance, I thoroughly enjoyed Sonic 2006 on both of my playthroughs.

I also enjoy really immersing myself into whatever entertainment form I'm, well, entertaining myself with. A lot of people would probably say they play video games to have fun, but I would answer that I play it for the experience. Of course, that includes fun, but I also take in what happens in the game, look at the environments and things the main character interacts with, have fun exploring towns and hub worlds (I love the Adventure Fields in Sonic Adventure, 2006, and Unleashed), and just generally enjoy the sensation of playing it. I like longer games for this reason; short games are just over too fast. Spin-off games or others without a real plot don't appeal to me quite as much; I like games that are epic in every sense of the word.

Well, that's me. I haven't really described myself much in the past, so I did my best. I'm not trying to make myself sound better than anyone when I talk about how I'm different from most gamers and the like; just trying to describe what sets me apart. Chances are, though, that that wasn't even crossing your mind as you read that, so, good. I'm always willing to help people out with anything I can, so if you're having an issue in a Sonic game, want some general advice on your fan fiction, or want me to convince you to enjoy Sonic 2006, just drop me a line!
