Yeah, sorry, but I'm not flat-out hitting people with a Sonic conversation out of nowhere. It's not worth the risk of them thinking I'm a loser. I wouldn't be surprised if many people's immediate response would be to ask if I was autistic, which incidentally, I am. Before I knew it, I'd be scrambling to justify my own existence.

Maybe, but it sounds like Penders is having trouble getting numbers that would even fulfill a complete Japanese doujinshi print run. If he can't manage more than that, is SEGA even going to care, use of their IP or otherwise?

Scott Pilgrim!!! Sing Sonic music at a Karaoke place probably. I met this girl once at my school whose dad bought a Sega Genesis with Sonic Spinball on it. We would play Sonic Superstars when we were free at class. She's now homeschooled... That's the closest I ever got to a Sonic-knowing person.

Play "Open Your Heart" Out loud Seriously though, I'd say just ask around. maybe you encounter someone about something non-sonic related, and just drop some hints. if that doesn't work, get more and more obvious and then just ask "What do you know about Sonic?" (This was oddly Romantic too)

Note; I've been at least around these games since I was a literal baby, so I literally do not remember a day without gaming at least being part of my life. But the first game I remember ever playing in my life, if not the first I actually did play, was Super Mario World. A game that still holds a place in my heart even today. We had the SNES as a family, but while my siblings were old enough to have seen the console war firsthand, I wasn't; to me, the SNES and Game Boy might as well have been the only systems in existence until the Nintendo 64. That little bit I do remember.

I'm mainly referring to the original version of the game here, and really light gun based games as a whole. In fact, I recall there being a port of Duck Hunt to the original Wii as well, which used the Wii remote and sensor to simulate the gameplay. Well, I didn't know how old you were, but regardless, I was just recalling a memory of my own that yours made me think of.

That rationale would make sense in many cases, for example, the Wreck it Ralph posters overstating how much well-known video game characters would be in it in order to attract in a periphery demographic of gamers, because ultimately Disney animation is a huge brand and they still had their core fanbase either way...but this does not seem like that sort of scenario. This probably does not have any major demographic beyond the core demographic of Sonic fans, so it shouldn't have Sonic shit attached to it; it should be Sonic shit that has other shit attached to it, because without the core it has no real reason to exist. At this point, I might as well mention that the live-action side of the Sonic movies has grown on me a fair amount. I think part of why it's been so much easier to swallow than so many other movies that use the "cartoon character(s) invade(s) the real world" format is that the Sonic movies don't just play the whole real-world as the straight man against obnoxiously zany cartoon invaders; they play the "real" world quite cartoony in itself. A bit of that was probably all-but inevitable when they casted Jim Carrey as Robotnik, but lots of the other human characters also get surreal in some way or another. A cop isn't just obsessed with eating donuts; he talks to donuts. Another cop's reaction to his patrol car exploding is to put on a helmet with a police light on top of it and ride around town on a toy scooter. A high-ranking government intel agent is inexplicably obsessed with Olive Garden. A Siberian bar is full of characters you'd expect to see at The Poison Apple or The Snuggly Duckling. I'm not saying that surreal comedy is the only thing I will ever accept Sonic being, and I actually am relieved that the games are moving away from that lately, but in the context of the movies, I feel the dynamic elevates them above their peers by, oddly enough, allowing characters to be more balanced. The animated characters are permitted to be used for emotions and behaviors beyond just shouting quips and jiggling around farting, while most of the humans are funny enough that the films don't become horribly boring every time the animated characters aren't onscreen. But while I like the world the Sonic movies have built, and I'm guessing plenty others do too (and I also had no idea anyone hated Wade until it got brought up in reviews of this show), I still can't imagine anyone going out of their way to see more of them who isn't ultimately there for the Sonic elements. Also, with regards to the claim that "they don't go the fully-animated route and have so little of Knuckles himself because animation is more expensive", I grant that animation is expensive, but I often wonder if animation is really so expensive that it would be impossible to afford if only these sorts of adaptations weren't dead-set on blowing so much money to hire a celebrity cast. In this case, there's no getting rid of Idris Elba; he's a huge part of movie Knuckles' appeal. But in general, I really wish more projects would break that mold of thinking they need a star-studded cast to succeed, especially since movie stars voicing characters usually just results in them essentially playing themselves.

I'm mainly implying that kids these days are remarkably similar to how we were as kids getting into Sonic. Think back to your youth when you first got into the franchise--it was new and interesting, yes? It's basically like that with kids of this era; we're adults or at least teenagers now, but when you look at the new generation of kids getting into Sonic, it's like looking at a window back in time to when you yourself were a kid getting into Sonic. Not that it goes against everything else you said, but that's the gist of it. Even with more and more new franchises marketed towards them popping up with varying levels of success, Sonic is still going strong. Which is remarkable when almost two decades ago people were suggesting the franchise should be put down and ended due to ShTH and Sonic 06.

As such, the Future Foundation has started up the old cloning facilities on the planet Kamino, allowing for the creation of a pacification force that hasn't seen the light of day since the days of the Galactic Republic: The Clone Troopers! Now you have the ability to create your own Clone Trooper, who will take up slots separate from your Skylanders to accompany on missions to assist your Skylanders! Develop their characters, define their arsenal, and decide whether they live... or die. This is a mechanic meant to help inject stakes previous unheard of in Skylanders, characters meant to build an attachment to... So their survival is all the sweeter, or their death is all the more heartbreaking. The choice is yours, Writer. Here are the general rules to follow when creating and dispatching your own Clone. 1.) CHARACTER LIMIT You can only create three Clones at a time to remain active. To get a new Clone, you must kill or write off another in your existing roster. Only one Clone per Writer can go on a mission. They won't count towards the maximum amount of Skylanders allowed for an episode, they are a plus one. 2.) CLASS TEMPLATES To help personalize your Clone Trooper, their mannerisms and their abilities, feel free to follow these templates to get started. - Soldier: Your straight laced, bog standard Clone Trooper. Loyal to the end, and ready to fight for the Skylanders cause. No inherent specialty, all around versatile. - Pilot: May not be the best fighter on foot but damn good in a vehicle or manning some kind of device or weapon. Pilots can often be a bit reckless and easygoing, ready to take battles to the uncharted skies or the tread-laden trenches. - Commander: Commands authority over other Clones, but still answers to their Skylanders generals. Strict, no nonsense, authoritative. - Hacker: Maybe a bit meek, hardly a fighter but got the technical knowhow to get the nitty gritty jobs done beyond the front lines. - Weapons Specialist: Destruction is what they know, weapons is what they love. They are reckless, aggressive troublemakers that wish to blast first, ask questions never. You don't have to abide by these archetypes, but think of them as good primers when considering your characters. 3.) ABILITIES Your Clone Troopers have NO supernatural abilities. Nor can one be a complete master of all trades. Please keep their skills and capabilities constrained to that of a normal soldier from the Star Wars universe, and follow the above templates to help guide you on what is accepted. 4.) HOW TO SUBMIT Clones should have their own bios alongside other Skylanders. Follow the same templates, but naturally it can be a lot shorter, focusing on mostly personality and abilities, less backstory. After all, they all come from the same place and whatnot. 5.) DEATH More of advice, and less of a rule. You are free to kill of a Clone whenever or however you wish to help drive stakes. But remember as a writer, death has no meaning unless if its something we care about. Take time to flesh out your clone, let readers and writers endear themselves to it before yanking the heartstrings. This will help you be a more effective and stronger writer.

I understand that this wording probably sounds, shall we say, oddly romantic, but hopefully it will at least help my thread get noticed. Lately I have reflected on my lack of a social life, or at least, any social life that doesn't involve the Internet, and come to realize that it's hard to find any opportunity to have real-world, local conversations that are anywhere close to as interesting as ones I could have online. But what if it wasn't? What if there was a way to find Sonic fans who lived near me? I can say the means I've tried to look for them don't work. Conventional web searches for Sonic fans in my area just turn up event listings, often for events that have already come and gone. Meetup.com doesn't yield anything close to what results I want. But is there a way Sonic fans have tried to find each other, with proven results?

I'm actually not quite sure what you're implying, but it kind of makes me think. You can't always predict what will be a hit with contemporary audiences, but I'm guessing producers in various companies place at least some value on how big a hit brands have been in the past when choosing what new projects to greenlight. In that regard, Sonic is probably not unlike ninja turtles or Pokémon; it goes through high points and low points but there sure aren't too many quiet points. Almost no established big brand has a spotless track record but new brands have no track record at all. The problem with new media being made for established brands, though, is that makes it harder to discern whether something is actually a hit with contemporary audiences or they've just been made as experiments in hopes they will be. However, if the experiments continue, then it's safe enough to say they're doing something right. It's pretty clear in retrospect that the Sonic Boom initiative was dead on arrival and that everything to come out of it had just been authorized before that was apparent, but with the Sonic movies it's obvious they've kept going because they're big hits; probably bigger than anyone expected.

I might not be able to get any games finished this week, but I can complete the Knuckles Challenge. I just happened to be playing around with SA2 (again) for fun. The Knuckles and Rouge stages just happen to be my favorite, which is apparently unheard of among Sonic fans?? Does anyone else like the treasure hunt stages?
