Yeah, Jumpman and Mario are long confirmed the same person.

It's not like Mario and Dr. Mario, who Miyamoto himself confirmed is actually a different person from Mario. Now THAT is weird.

The only thing that makes it confusing is that it's all but confirmed Cranky Kong is that old Donkey Kong, and current DK is the same age as Mario going by Yoshi's Island DS, and we know Mario isn't some old man.

Yeah, mostly parroted by kids and fans who just aren't that familiar with Mario because Matpat popularized it. Same as it ever was.

As for the apparent age discrepancy, it's not that hard to work out:

• Arcade-era Donkey Kong could already be an older gorilla during the events of the arcade games; just not quite Cranky's age yet.
• Gorillas age about twice as fast as humans anyway.
• Modern DK's identity is inconsistent; Sometimes he's called Cranky's son, sometimes his grandson. But if we take it as him being a grown-up DK Jr. (especially if we assume Junior is already grown in the arcade era; it's never stated outright he's a kid), then all of this is totally feasible.

Geoff's event still seems to be happening and the companies seem to be making their own events around the "E3" week, so it's not like the stuff won't be happening at all in June.

Likely no convention tho, which is sad, but also ESA did it to themselves really.

Geoff’s event always seems to be a prolonged talk show with only a few announcements sprinkled in throughout the month or so it’s around. Sure other companies do their own thing but it was nice having a week where you knew shit was going to happen. Now it’s just like every other part of the year, a guessing game.

There's plenty of games to play and follow coming out in June alone. Summer looks hella fun to me. I don't need some silly event and PR show to spice things up. Everyone's just gonna do their own separate showcases and Directs anyways.

I don’t disagree but still, not having an event where the entire industry comes together to put in a show (pr or what have you) now is just lame imo. Even when E3 was bad it still made for great rifting material for a week.

It’s a change I understand but one I still find bad.

I know the pandemic messed things up, and the show's have been mid for A while now.

Probably a combination of what you mentioned, 2019's doxxing and maybe those E3 2020 plans that were established before the pandemic hit.

There's no exact reason why the devs are dropping out of E3, maybe they also see no reason to pay for spots in the showroom.

Part of it comes from companies being forced to have stuff to present at E3 week regardless if they are actually presentable. Now that development cycles are murder compared to during E3's golden age, everybody's better off showing stuff off when they're actually ready to be shown. And without having to purchase and fly down to a spot at the LA CC, I may add.

When it comes to appetizing consumers on coming attractions, streaming proves less is more. They'll be plenty of bombshell announcements all through the summer, just not doing it all in one week where it became too tight a squeeze.

No confirmation yet. However,  I think it's highly likely SEGA brought Stealth and his team back to add Amy and Knuckles to CD (and hopefully patch 3K as well). I just can't see Sonic Team adding Knuckles & Amy without making a mess of it whereas Stealth and his team know what they're doing.

I can only imagine Nintendo seeing this.

Emulators themselves are technically legal. It's "stolen" roms that don't come from your own purchased games that are the actually point for legal contention.

Not that this won't stop Nintendo from potentially throwing a legal fit. It'd be amazing if they actually just take this to heart to improve their business practices.

Funny that this gets announced right after the eshop closes.
