    Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

Nah, it takes me 5 minutes to clear off naughty times on the Wii and DS, I'll do them when I'm back in the office, it'll be a couple of days mind as I'm out this week. We've not forgot about the PS3/360 either --- S0L ---

I think people are confusing Sega maintaining a consistent design for characters with Sega "retconning". Sonic and Eggman looked like what they looked like in Sonic 1-3&K both in the magical fantasy world of Sonic and in the real world. Sonic and Eggman also look like what they look like in Sonic 4 both in the magical fantasy world of Sonic and in the real world, as well as in all the post Sonic 3 games. Why did Sonic and Eggman change in their character design? Well, super fans can make up all the reasons they want (chaos energy accelerated Sonic's growth and turned his eyes green, Eggman put on his formal wear etc.) But at the end of the the day, Sonic is just a video game series and Sega is a company that wishes to maintain their current character designs so as to not juggle classic and modern designs. edit: and Sonic 4 DOES take place immediately after Sonic & Knuckles and before Sonic Adventure. lol, I have no idea why people are even discussing that. Must be the same crowd that sticks Unleashed before Adventure which is just plain kooky.

    Are we getting too picky?

Suddenly criticizing a game with glaringly low production values, bland levels, and rather dire physics is picky?

    Nintendo 3DS

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this article looks like it's abut the DSiXL. Wouldn't be too terribly shocked if Nintendo will make you rebuy downloaded games for the 3DS and Wii 2, though.

    SONIC RELIEF 2010

The deadline for entries has now been reached! Thank you all for your entries and donations so far, there's been some real talent on show and I think it's going to be quite difficult for Shadzter and myself to decide on a winner! Speaking of which, the winner will be announced sometime over the next weekend along with the grand total raised from Sonic Relief 2010. It's going to be a time of celebration, I'm sure! If you're still working on an entry but have missed the deadline, we will still accept late entries (after all, it's for a good cause) but the later you get them in the less likely you will be considered for the prizes, as understandably we're using the next week to decide on a winner.

The Great Infinity Ward Exodus of 2010

You realize this is Activision you're talking about? The fact that they announced ever more CoD games just after booting those guys shows that they aren't gonna quit beating this horse until they're dead themselves.

Exactly; no Infinity Ward means no awards, no quality, no success, no sales, and no incentive to make any more of them! Mind you, today's shooter-obsessed, jaded gaming public are likely to suck up the cash-ins like semen through a straw regardless of quality - it's actually quite sad...

Sonic's design evolved over the years. It's only natural that they'll keep him that way. Take a web-comic (or even a normal paper comic) for example - the artist's style evolves and changes over the years. A while later, he decides to do a 'prequel' story, or a story about an earlier time in the characters' history. He doesn't revert to his old style for it; instead he simply draws in his current evolved style as he renders the past.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

It is set between Sands of Time and Warrior Within. So it seems to be made for just a movie(which looks great). With that said, I am looking forward to this game. It looks really innovative and it isn't a bullshit retro throwback. Plus, water parkour seems really awesome.

So nearly considered using a Mr Fox avatar too. He's so dashing. Everyone must watch it. Also, new avatar and fursona pic. Suits me down to the ground, speaking as a photographer.

    Are we getting too picky?

That...doesn't really answer my question. And subsequently, it circumvents the subject of select fans complaining about insignificant elements of the game and how you were among that crowd; It circumvents it for miles.

    Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

No, I'm pretty sure that's infinite drifting. It looks just like the initial video showing the "technique" off. Not like it's easy to do, though. Having to have one finger on the analog stick and another on the d-pad and all. Anyway, like I said before when S0L said there would be no such thing as snaking or anything similar to snaking..."My ass."

    Are we getting too picky?

To answer the topic, HELL YES! I mean Damn "sonic has green eyes in a classic styled game" WTF? That crap right there almost made me turn away from being a sonic fan. "This game is too shiny" "where's tails?" "Sega isnt using eggman's classic look" "I WANT SONIC IN HIS OWN GAME BY HIMSELF" DAMN!

    Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing

Post by S0L on the official SEGA forums seems to confirm that they have pretty much completed the DLC: DLC is coming - and I beleive most people will be happy when it hits. You'll notice we've not announced a release date - that's as sometimes it's not entirely under our control. From what I'm hearing though it's not much longer. Certainly we're done with it bar any last minute headaches. As I pointed out at the time when we discussed any alteration to the PC version, I can't promise anything, and if something does happen, it would take time. I've not forgot, just right now there is nothing I can officially or unofficially say on the topic. Not much I can add to that! --- S0L http://forums.sega.com/showthread.php?t=321793

The Great Infinity Ward Exodus of 2010

As long as this means that there'll be no more shitty Call of Duty cash-ins, then I'm glad that Infinity Ward is suffering... Sorry, but I simply can't forgive that company for the abominable things that they did to the FPS genre...

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who hasn't played this game. Hell, I haven't played ANY of the Mario RPGs, except for the Mario and Luigi ones (which are all good, except for Partners in Time. That one sucked.) Also, some other classic games I want to play: Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64, 2000) I've heard so many good things about this game, but I never played it. Day of the Tentacle (PC, 1993) I love Tim Schafer's games (but the only ones I've played are Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, and Grim Fandango), and I really want to play this one. I'll have to use DOSbox to play it though. Full Throttle (PC, 1995) Again, this is another one of the Tim Schafer games I haven't played. Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn, 1997) Like Majora's Mask, I've heard so many good things about it, but I never played it. Paper Mario (N64, 2001) Like I said, I haven't played any of the Mario RPGs except for the M&L ones. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year-Door (GC, 2004) Read above. Secret of Evermore (SNES, 1995) I love Secret of Mana, it's one of my favorite games of all time, but I never played Evermore. That's all I can think of now. There might be more, so I'll update later once I remember/see some other old games I haven't played but want to.

That's not infinite drifting. It's a totally legit time. Unless I've somehow been cheating this whole time that video shows how I play normally. Granted, I'm not as skilled on that particular stage.

    Are we getting too picky?

Picky? Good grief, quite a lot of people are. Would an extra character really ruin the game? Well, Sonic only is kinda a step backwards from Sonic 3&K, so, hell no. Of course, that's if they don't take the retarded route of changing the gameplay entirely for just one fucking character. How many times has this happened since Sonic Adventure? I've lost count. You don't go arbitarilly changing the genre in the middle of the game, that's just terrible game design. Does Dr. Eggman's name really matter? Oh, hell no, anyone who actually cares should just get over it. I learned about the name 'Eggman' through the Sonic CD PC demo's help file, and thought it was an appropriate and neat name. Of course, I was still far more exposed to 'Robotnik' through the games and AOSTH. Now they have both, and when I found this out, I thought "huh, so they gave him his Japanese name? Neat." And I never really gave a damn. Does it matter that much if there's only one route? Well, yes, actually. Are at least three paths that span the entire level and intertwine with each other too much to ask? Seriously. Do we need to be confined to only things which were invented before the Dreamcast? Well, depends on the quality of the additions, tis all. Unfortuately, I believe the Homing Attack is fundamentally broken beyond repair. While I have been rather harsh on Sonic 4 (okay, that's an understatement, I've been dumping on it since the first footage at every opportunity if I could be bothered), but at least I try to focus on the stuff that actually matters and also make sure my criticisms are perfectly valid.

    Super Mario Galaxy 2

I must say I actually loved the linear aspect of Galaxy- to me, it felt like the first 'proper' 3D Mario platformer- until Galaxy I always felt that, at least in terms of faithfulness to the genre, Sonic had actually done a better job at sticking to actual platforming in 3D. I mean, look back at the old 2D games. Most any platformer, including Mario and Sonic, was quite literally a simple left-to-right, A-to-B affair (Mario much moreso, in fact). I always felt that 64 and Sunshine, great as they were, didn't really feel like platformers- it was just chucking Mario into an open area with a bunch of (usually) exploration-based missions. The only parts that actually felt like platformers in 64 and Sunshine were the Bowser stages in the former, and the hidden FLUDD-less stages in the latter. But Mario Galaxy actually felt like a proper platformer to me. In fact, I daresay I almost wish they'd scrap the 'multiple stars per stage' concept, because the whole mission-based thing is something that irked me a bit in Secret Rings and Black Knight, too. Okay, even SA1 and SA2 had extra missions, but they were totally optional, and you never had to replay the same stage more than once to progress with the game itself. I understand that games take a lot more time and money to make these days, and that as such adding multiple missions per level is a great way to massively extend replay value with little cost, but still.

This fox is fantastic, you know why? Because it came to DVD and Blu-ray recently, <3. So naturally I decked myself out in Fantastic Mr. Fox stuffs. I really encourage anyone to go see it if you haven't already. I liked it better than Up personally *gasp, shot, raped, what have you*. -Blur

Of course all they're doing is cashing in on it, but it's still hardly a reason to consider the franchise a subseries of Sonic the hedgehog, that's like saying Super Smash Bros is a subseries of Sonic. I agree, I honestly don't know why Sonic Heroes has such a bad reputation, besides the cheesy dialogue -which has been present in every Sonic game since the characters started talking- I can find only a great, great game. Another Sonic heroes would probably be about the best Sonic news I could possibly get! Also this would mean going bigger as sequels are usually compelled to do, which would mean....more teams? Or perhaps they would take a different route. Personally I've grown fond of an idea I had, basically Sonic heroes, but with villains - Sonic villains if you will. Something along the lines of disgruntled secondary/side/sub-villains wanting to overthrow/obtain Eggman's stuff. Teams like: Team mercenary - Nack, Bean, Bark | Team Metal: Metal Sonic, Metal Knuckles, Tails doll | Team babylon: Jet, Wave, Storm. Of course the team mechanic of "Speed, Flight, Power" would have to be altered to fit each team, so it wouldn't essentially follow the Sonic Heroes formula to a tee, but I like the idea. Even if it's just more Sonic Heroes that would still be great. Colourful whimsical levels and getting to play as the Chaotix is awesome! Sonic Heroes 2; make it happen Sonic Team!

Sonic Heroes was fine as a concept but goddamn they better learn from their mistakes if they're making another one. No more health bars on enemies (if you want minibosses have minibosses but the easiest enemy to beat should not have a health bar), and be a bit more creative than just simply assigning level gimmicks to different formations. Let us think a little if you must mix up the gameplay a bit.

    Are we getting too picky?

Actually, Phoebius made a somewhat facetious post about it and then several other people started trying to figure out what the precedent was. The only out and out negative posts I saw was Phoebius's ironic bitching and posts like these: But the bit about eyelids is interesting because it means that Sonic is probably real time 3D. I complained about the eyes, but the color is not chief among my complaints with them. Oh, wait, this thread is about something different than I thought it was. Actually, a lot of things about the new design wouldn't be so bad if this game hadn't been made with an orthographic view, that goes for any version of Sonic. This hits New sonic harder though, because the cone shape of his body becomes visible and his quills are all going off in their own directions, and his legs basically become line segments. But anyway, a (really long) while back I revised my position on his eyes, the green isn't chief among my complaints with them. I also only brought up the life icon in response to the assertion that you never see his eyes in game. Sonic 4 is also the game that taught me to hate certain aspects of the new design.
