I wonder how Persona 4 would have been received if Chie's dialogue got a straight faithful localisation...
because she actually changed a lot from the japanese script
Originally, she was super insistent on gender roles, and felt insecure about if she was a real woman or not since she was so much of a tomboy, and lacked many traditionally feminine traits like cooking skills. She was so insecure about it that she ended up forcing gender roles on others, by insisting that the protagonist and Yosuke must protect her and Yukiko because they're boys and she and Yukiko are girls, even though everyone knows Chie is a way better fighter than anyone else in the group.
Since a lot of people don't look past a character's introduction, like the people who state that Naoto is trans, I don't think people will have lasted long enough to realise that she develops out of that and becomes confident in just who she is.
