I really hope Bowser and DK have their actual game voices and not any of that generic animal garbage that was in the past games, especially since Bowser looks like his actual Mario game look this time, shoot they let Pikachu get away with his iconic voice actress. I know that the voices in the E3 Demo are likely just placeholder, except for the new characters and Pit and Palutena who have their Uprising vocals doing new stuff. I want to here Bowser shout "Showtime!" as he enters battle or uses his Final Smashes.

Because you are the only one who does this constant financial talks that you probably don't understand for some stupid personal reason I cannot fathom? And you do it REALLY often in a large number of topics that are unrelated and everyone is getting extremely tired of it, assuming they already aren't tired of it?

Stating "Generations is by far the best 3D Sonic game" is stating an opinion because it, in and of itself, is a subjective statement of thought. It is not "stating an opinion as fact." As a result, he is not actually obligated to further clarify that a subjective statement is, indeed, a subjective statement. When opinions come with a snarky tone or are stated towards someone in a demeaning manner it's natural to see offense, but the issue is less the opinion but moreso the speaker being rude in the first place. Even in your own example, Speaker Y "makes an insinuation that Speaker X's opinion is invalid." That's why the argument broke out, because Speaker Y got personal, not just because they stated disagreement. Being offended at rude behavior is one thing, but if people are actually offended that others are not clarifying their plainly stated opinions as opinions, that truly is a personal problem on their end as it is not the speaker's job to essentially coddle people who demand that they say "In my opinion" or "imo" with every post. Instead, it is up to readers to understand when an opinion is really nothing more than just an opinion. If you want to further hash this out as a problem with the forum, then you're allowed to make or resurrect a relevant thread in the Member Feedback forum. This particular thread isn't the place for this.

If there is one good, personal thing that's come of Penders & his ever-delayed opus, it's that it's inspired me to start writing my own personal stuff again. And if I ever hit a block and lose heart, I'll be able to say to myself with the absolute truth, "At least I'm making more progress than Penders has, and no matter how ameteur it is, it'll still be of better quality than his." So thank you Ken. You (and a few other, fanfic, writers whose writings of.... dubious quality) have given me the resolve to try to be a better writer than you. Even if my story right now is about Green Lantern (no Sonic, however), I know I have more respect for that IP than you ever did with Sonic's.

Without giving away too much or taking sides, I have to agree. I think Sonic has had a comedic/sarcastic side to him since the beginning. To ignore that, would in my mind be as much of a problem ignoring the speed, action, and epicness. It's putting them all together in that careful measure that gets you Sonic. 3d blast is on the list as the "obscure"/ "weird" title. It's not a great Sonic game, but has a certain weird charm. I'd played it as a kid, but rented from Blockbuster and never beaten it til recently. I never played the Sonic Rush games. The DS is basically the only major system I've never owned (not counting the Xbox One which I don't have). I have a 3ds now, but haven't gone back and played a lot of DS games. I did like to play as Jet the Hawk in Sonic Riders though!

I’m going to ask that all discussion of SEGA and Sammy’s finances be avoided entirely in this topic, by Omote or anyone else. Discussion of company finance and SEGA’s public image should be directed to The SEGA finance thread. This goes especially for Omote; while it’s appreciated that you quickly got back on topic, I ask that in the future you avoid the discussion of finance entirely. Now, if one wants to discuss Sonic Boom’s large marketing effort and such, that is relevant to this thread and so is fine. But in depth analysis of the financial situation should probably be avoided (e.g. discussing the Boom merch is one thing, discussing how much it’s impacting the stock price or quarterly report is another). In the future, if you take issue with a post for any reason, please report it to the moderator team so that we can take care of it, rather than replying in this manner.

For crying out loud. Regardless of how it was stated, it's pretty clear that he was speaking of his opinion, and it's a pretty common opinion at that. Do we really need to be pedantic about this? I'm all for clarifying the differences between fact and opinion, but there's such a thing as being obnoxiously petty.

Okay, seriously, I know you're joking but anyone caught even suggesting violent actions being done to Ken Penders from this point onward will immediately get a strike. Ken Penders is without a doubt a huge menace to the Archie comics, but we don't appreciate our members making light of his physical well-being. It's dirty, hostile, and just not funny. So please, let's not do that again.

I wanna see an episode where they send Sonic back in time, only for him to end up in the pre-Sonic 1 concept art world. He tries to make chit-chat with the characters, only to soon find that they're all frozen in place. Trapped in a sometimes-featureless white void, the plot continues to follow Sonic as he struggles to retain his sanity, contemplating the meaning of life itself without any friends or enemies. We cut back to Tails and Amy back in the real world, where both are sobbing; they can't fix the time machine, and there's no return for Sonic. Sonic himself manages to barely hold on to his sense of reality, until, in his wandering, he comes across the very first piece of art drawn of him by SEGA. The very sight of a smiling clone of himself, eternally frozen in happiness while he is plagued with an infinite loneliness, is the last straw. Sonic breaks down on his knees, his sanity escaping him as scenes from the previous episodes in the series flash on screen. The final shot is a slow zoom out, as Sonic begins screaming screaming screaming. The kids would love it!

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U)

Can this just stop in general. This really isn't adding to the discussion and we are just going on a back and forth loop and Sega's whole financial situation. Can't that be left to another topic. This is starting to derail way past gameplay discussion.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U)

Heroes and Shadow are just different takes on Adventure. Remove the guns and vehicles from Shadow, the team mechanic from Heroes, and you basically have Adventure gameplay. Classic is 2D, so I'm not counting that; I'm talking strictly 3D here. So by my count, that's Adventure (5 games), Boost (3 games) and Lost World (1 game). Only three. So this changing of gameplay styles isn't as constant as you're making it out to be.

You can extrapolate quite a bit from Sonic's impatience and other such traits in the the first games. Those characteristics didn't come out of nowhere later, they were always there and were just expanded on logically. Also Sega does what Nintendon't... So there's that! That said, I think you are confusing being a comedic character and being a comedy character. I would liken Sonic somewhat to Iron Man in the Iron Man movies. The stakes are real. The action is real, but Tony Stark is a character with comedic qualities. I'm gonna do a quick twitch test RIGHT NOW to figure out settings for the next time I do it. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U)

Doesn't feel like Adventure to me. Feels like its own thing. Actually, it's more believable to say it's speed-only Sonic Heroes with guns. And if it IS Adventure, it's a very, very gimped Adventure. Weak spindash that's more similar to Rocket Accel from Heroes, enemies with health bars, narrow pathways, collection missions similar to the Chaotix, and the other attachments. I really wish you'd wait for me to respond before putting words into my mouth. Yes, you can get through most of Shadow without it. Most. It's not fun to do so, but you can. However, there are points in the game you HAVE to use them. You watched playthroughs, I've actually played them. I can tell you it feels a lot different than it seems. I disagree. However, I will say that the engine used to create both Shadow and Heroes could be used to create another similar Adventure title. But they're far too different in many aspects from the Adventures to be anything like it. The engine could, yes. But as it stands? No, it's not.

Changing a gameplay style isn't "carelessness", it's them going "all right, let's try this and see if this works". And besides, as far as mainline Sonic games go, the "changing the gameplay every two/three games" thing only started with Unleashed. Every game before then was still very-much Adventure-like in style, gimmicks notwithstanding.

    Disney's Big Hero 6

If I had to wager a bet, it's because the former is just lazy character design, while the latter, on the other hand, is what should be done more often to begin with. More character diversity is nice--very nice, I must say--but that does not excuse lazy character design. Of course, since this is apparently not final, I'll retract my complaint if there's something done to Honey Lemon to make her more distinct from Rapunzel, Anna and Elsa. Until that happens, however, I will continue to air my grievances over her current design and I honestly don't see why I should essentially be shamed into silence for it.

    Disney's Big Hero 6

It begins... Honestly, I wonder how long DIsney will keep using the same facial models. I understand that it's probably cheaper, but it reeks of laziness and takes away character diversity. I'm looking forward to the movie still, and I do like most of the designs... except for Fredzilla. Good lord, I thought one of Disney's twelve principles of animation was appeal, but I can't see anything appealing about that monster design. The big eyes, tiny, circular mouth, it's... well, it just looks ugly, IMO.

I'm still... not that hyped for this movie. Not in the "I know I'll hate this movie" way, though. I'm more like "even if this movie is going to suck, at least I'll forever be happy that Sonic appeared in one popular and successfull movie more than a certain other videogame icon"

I imagine Penders at a convention and all that comes to mind is Adam West at the convention in that one Fairly Odd Parents episode. "Hey slugger, how would you like a signed copy of the Lara-Su Chronicles from I, Ken Penders? Who am I making it out to?" "I don't want your autograph!" *writing* "I-don't-want..."

Actually I was thinking of making something like this review (which was first pointed out by IndigoRush in a Sonic Lost World topic http://www.soniczone0.com/blog/index.php?id=109 Here (unless I misinterpreted) every little nook and cranny about the game is described the way it is and the personal taste of whoever wrote the review is kept at minimal. Instead of making the reader think "if this guy hates this game, it must really sucks. I'l pass" or "hey, this guy actually loves the game! ...but I'm not entirely convinced, I'll check other reviews" this review makes the reader reflect and ponder if they will like the game or not.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U)

If you don't feel like counting gimmicks, then so be it. I do. Heroes was entirely centered around it. Very different from what the Adventures gave. It controlled different, felt different, it was its own thing. Entirely different mechanics

I hope they don't go AS heavy on the main theme remixing this game. Brawl's Target Test theme was just offensive considering what preceded it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXHQb7RN9lE Oh how I dream of the return of this theme... though I'd settle for a remix of N64's one too. I don't know why so many people think Boom might replace Sega!Sonic if it does well. Boom, at its heart, is a cartoon, and there are plenty of cartoons that get lots of merchandise. Boom is just another one of those cartoons (and why not go all out on the merchandise when we know all this Sonic stuff will most definitely sell?). And the games, good or bad, are just part of that merchandising line, the way I see it. Something extra the cartoon's fans can spend their money on. Why would Sega replace their original game series with a cartoon that might occasionally get a tie in game, when Sonic was originally built on video games? (Especially since they would likely never hear the end of it from Sonic's older fanbase, and I think they know that.)

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U)

This is what I've been saying from the start. Boom is such a huge initiative in that it's essentially relaunching the entire franchise. I'll believe that it's not replacing the main line when I see it. My guess is the the main series will, at best, continue as a very small side series. You don't make a huge new image for a a change redesigning everything with a TV show and then put it on level or lesser footing that what you already had. Though I feel the need to mention that if Sonic somehow did become properly two-tiered is being implied, with Boom attempting to cater to the younger audiences that SEGA has been trying to go after for past few years and SEGA Sonic returning to a slightly more mature audience, I could potentially love the result. It just doesn't seem at all likely.

Gonna repeat this statement in bold so you see this a second time and see what he was saying. I'd like to watch you play Sonic 3 & Knuckles, or Sonic Generations. If you play 3K though, you should try the hack Sonic 3: Complete. It's about the best Sonic 3 experience you can get.

    Hyper Sonic Epilepsy Rumor

But only in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and not Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles separately, as they were canonically meant to be. The Super Emeralds were presumably only in the game because it saved the programmers the time of having to edit the mod to work with a standard seven emeralds and because they thought it would be a nice little tidbit. Nevertheless, they are no more relevant to the game's story than Knuckles is to Sonic 2's story or blue spheres are to Sonic 1's story. I'm really against adding more super forms because the concept of super forms is already cheap and overplayed. I'd like to see more games with just plain old Sonic defeating the final boss, honestly. While I loved the Perfect Chaos boss in SADX when I was a kid, defeating him in Sonic Generations felt infinitely more satisfying, in my opinion. It looked and felt far more impressive than watching Super Sonic float across the water and lightly nudge him. That aside, Super Sonic is already the next best thing to "perfect" already, so the next level up from "perfect" is apparently "perfect with a more diverse array of colors." It's not as fun as it sounds.

Eh, I think I've re-evaluated where I stand on this. Is it easy to get bored of playing the same games you feel restricted to (yet still love?) sometimes? Duh. That's just natural on my part. I just need a break, and I gotta move on to other titles. That doesn't mean I'm ever going to fall out of the series. If I ever did in the first place, getting back into it would be a sinch. Echoing the good Dr. Quinzel a tad bit, Sonic has always been a sort of constant variable in my life that isn't going to fade. And why should it? Being one of the first game series I ever technically played, listening to his soundtracks over and over, the dedicated fanbase I'm proud to be invested in, the characters, you get the gist of it. Hell, every game from this point forward could be utter shit, and it still wouldn't even faze me. The fact that I'm still here on this very site, even when being in a phase of growing tired of his games, should be clear I don't back down from this sonuva bitch so easily.

The main key to grabbing me with any character, in any media, is to feel something for them. They could be incredibly entertaining to watch, have an intriguing backstory and/ or role, I could love to hate them, anything. I just want to fucking care. I don't like when Sonic is always on one entire end of a spectrum as far as personality traits goes. 06 really had something going with its CG intro, how did it go to shit so soon? He still acts like the Sonic we're supposed to know and love, the blue dude with the 'tude is still setting out to do the right thing, albeit simply having fun with the situation at hand and poking fun at how Eggman's forces fall so easily before him. It's just that after that, he falls victim to getting virtually nothing to do after that, aside from rescuing the same dumbass in distress over and over and over again, making me just as bored as his so called chemistry with Elise. Lost World's Sonic characterization is honestly something I have little to no problems with, and it's the best Sonic has ever been in the games for me. He's got an attitude, his Bromance with Tails feels real, and you can clearly make out he's like the cool-yet-caring older brother figure in that relationship. He's got witty remarks against his enemies that's fun to watch, he makes his share of mistakes, yadda yadda yadda. I like the blue blur in loads of games, sure, Black Knight especially, but Lost World was the point where Sonic felt like a truly relatable character.
  47. 2 points
They are all really good games however i think you should play Sonic Adventure 2. Good story, characterization, good gameplay, and nice setting and atomosphere. Then you should play Sonic 3 and Knuckles for intense action and adventure. Agreed no comedy...We need action and that sense of epicness.

No, he didn't. He didn't use the word "fact" anywhere in his statement. If someone saying something is the best automatically equates to fact, then everyone in here who says Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the best game ever are equally wrong. As long as someone doesn't declare that what they're saying is fact, it's safe to assume that what they're saying is opinion.

    Hyper Sonic Epilepsy Rumor

Or this... There is no way the Hyper Sonic sprite caused epileptic seizures. It's visual effect was no stronger than the Super Sonic sprite - just a few extra colours, and this was on 4th-gen hardware. Hyper Sonic was only cannon for 3&K and then never used again as there was no need for it. A shame really.
