    Why is Cheese so OP?

Gee, I wonder. Joking aside, SA1 and 2 hasn't really been indicative of Chao abilities for a fairly long time the way I see it. It's important to consider that they were designed around the challenges of the minigames themselves - they've since been shown to fly almost effortlessly in every subsequent appearance, whereas being able to just fly infinitely would pretty much break the level design and render the strength, swimming and arguably even the run speed stats moot. In later games they fly almost exclusively for convenience's sake, because Sonic 2 has shown us that partners can be pretty frustrating if they can't keep up and aren't available on command, unlike how Cheese synergizes with Cream for nearly every major appearance she has sans maybe Heroes. Suspension of disbelief plays a part too, because other characters get away with this shit all the time. It's one thing to believe Knux can floor any given bot in a single punch - to convince the audience that Tails's tails, soft, fluffy, sensitive things that they are, can do exactly the same thing is quite a feat. By that stretch of logic it doesn't seem like grasping too hard that even Chao, squishy bodies and all, could go toe-to-toe with Eggman's bots if they're raised for it or boosted enough through other means. The only thing that really stands out in Cheese's case here is that even though they gain some pretty deadly traits by absorbing the right creatures (eg: they can fucking breathe fire with some dragon in them), Cheese is pure neutral with no changes whatsoever, which kinda makes you wonder where he gets his influences from. Unless, you know, they retconned that out too for the sake of recognition. This wouldn't really work because 1) Chaos was voluntarily sealed away inside the Master Emerald at the end of SA1 and the canon of Battle is debatable at best, and 2) Chaos was only a Chao by the barest possible definition, mutated almost beyond recognition. It wouldn't really make any sense to take a monster best known for water manipulation and shapeshifting into borderline lovecraftian horrors and rebrand that as a relatively normal Chao who, despite his strength, is only really known for hitting things really, really, really fucking hard with his face.

    Why is Cheese so OP?

Cheese is actually one of the Immortal Chao, a group of seven very powerful Chao that were responsible for creating the Chaos Emeralds before time. Six of them were sealed away millions of years ago, but Cheese, the strongest of the group, somehow survived. Since then, Cheese has been watching over the world, waiting for the Chosen Savior of the Immortal Chao to appear. When the Chosen Savior -- Cream -- was born, Cheese appeared before her and became her friend. Now Cheese is secretly molding Cream to be the ultimate warrior capable of rescuing the Immortal Chao from their imprisonment, thus ushering in a new age of peace and prosperity. ...yeah i dunno Okay, in all seriousness, I think Cream is just really good at raising Chao. Maybe they wanted Cream to be the "easy mode" of Advance 2?

While I admit it's probably fitting for the whole 'war' development of the comic's universe, it's something I was never really big on. Having every single character a Freedom Fighter took away the whole sense of individuality and giving each character their own goals and uniqueness to some degree. I'm glad for example that the Chaotix are now specifically a detective agency like in the games and work on their own. They can still sometimes play like Freedom Fighters given the dire situation, but they have their own gimmick and drives now.

Was there news on Fire and Ice since the delay? I haven't heard, but I wasn't planning on getting it anyway so I haven't been paying attention. And sure, I guess. I'm in the mindset that staying positive is better for us as individuals and a community overall than being overly wary or negative over good news.

This needs more attention. Not just because the uploaders of the episodes need to be aware of it, but also because this is the first time I've seen a company deal with the situation like this. Usually companies will just take those videos down and give a copyright strike, and in cases like this they're in their right to do so. So SEGA trying to avoid giving copyright strikes over this is pretty nice.

Hitler was a fascist. A rather big difference. There's also a bit of an elephant in the room here. Bernie Sanders presumably wants most of those things in America, but I don't think (for example) his solution to "eliminate class inequality" is "eliminate most of the people in the unequal classes" or his gun control policies are idealized on the basis of "so the Schutzstaffel can do their job more easily." The main difference between the US and most countries is that the conservative element of the government rarely is so religiously related outside of the US. The closest analog would probably be Israel.

It's all fun and games until enough people spite their candidate into the White House, especially after he's run on hateful social rhetoric the GOP has been fueling for years anyway. Seriously, half the reason Trump is such a problem for them is that he's just blatantly saying everything they were implying, destroying the decorum surrounding traditional Southern Strategy maneuvers while also demonstrating just how backwards the GOP is to the country at large. Honestly, the biggest thing I see a win for Trump doing is emboldening the already brazen racists and nationalists, and fuck that noise.

    >people will get hyped for Persona just because of the name. W-what?! They make good game with nice characters and good story. And I don't care that they postponed the release date. Persona 5 looks impressive for the players. For a long time, I have not seen that Atlus deceived his fans. But Sega and Sonic Team maked new freaky Sonic Boom game. For what? People still like it? And no word about new game to the 25th anniversary, and whether it is of waiting?

Guys, seriously now, new game IS happening. No need to be skeptical anymore. All we need now is the official reveal. With Lex on board, this is something new, not a remaster, maybe not even a remake. Just for the love of God, drop the Titans gameplay/vibe. I can stand the designs for say, Cortex, N. Gin and even Crash himself (I would rather have the classic look, thought). Just drop the titans, and the hack n' slash gameplay completely. I want to platform in 3D and 2D in beautiful jungles, swamps, snowy mountains and ice caps, caves, rivers, temples...! Jetpacks, polar bears and boulders, FREAKING BOULDERS. I want more islands! I want awesome and colorful graphics, tribal-ish music. I want the GOOD Crash back!

Even if it is just the first game being on display, it is still really great to see that the game has been placed in a museum. Just goes to show that even if the series has been mismanaged and has a lot of problems, people still have a strong liking for the series so yeah. Really happy to see this.

Just came back from watching the SA1 Adaptation saga stream. I gotta say, that was legitimately good. It fixed many issues that I had with Season 1 and it was pretty faithful to Sonic Adventure as well! This is probably the most enjoyable part of the whole series thus far and I hope the rest of the Season keeps this type of quality!

You don't have to actually physically do anything to say racist things. On the contrary, minorities call the GOP and American culture racist because it continues to either deliberately or systemically perpetuate racist outcomes for ethnic minorities even when differences and variables between the demographics of individuals are taken into account. If people are in denial about this or personally offended over the use of the word "racist" because it ironically hurts their feelings to the point that they they don't want to engage in the issues that have plagued this country since before its inception, and they want to take people calling out the existence of these issues as being told to "shut up," then that's their problem they need to sort out. But it doesn't make the reality of what it means to be a non-white person in America any less true. It also doesn't matter to the prevalence of these issues that Trump is reveling in it, beyond the fact that he's simply emboldening a lot of these people to be more outwardly vocal about their shitty beliefs. Stop deflecting everything onto Dems and establishment Republicans for once, especially since it's not even the argument I'm making. No one remotely aware of how racism works actually thinks the Democrats are free of people with prejudiced tendencies or even actual conscious racists. People are instead arguing that there's only one candidate in the race right now actively stroking the nipples of those who think everyone with Latin American features is an illegal immigrant or that Muslims need to be surveilled anymore than white males and right-wing nationalists. People are also arguing that this candidate is running on the Republican ticket because the party has a decades' long history of basically passing policies and advocating measures that align the most with what he's saying already.

This is the most scary thing about living in America, personally - I had always wanted to until I realised I could bankrupt myself due to medical bills quite easily. The vehemence America has towards a national health service is also baffling, following the hubbub around the Obamacare act was quite an eye opener. I, for one, was surprised to know that the UK had government run death camps! And to think my experiences with the NHS had been nothing but pleasant, when I was a mere bureaucracy away from certain death!

Fascism isn't a vague term, it's a definite political ideology - as stated above. It has a long and really, really shitty history. Trump isn't a fascist in the 'Trump Uber Alles' sense, but his border policy, rhetoric, and courting to white nationalists certainly is reminiscent of it, so that's why people bring it up.

Alright, really nerdy question incoming. I may as well ask since you do have some access to the continuity bible of Sonic (or at least are more capable of finding answers than we are), was there ever any further 'backstory' planned for the Babylon Rogues being aliens (Sonic Riders 2)? I ask because they're kinda similar to the Knuckle Tribe in the sense that they're an ancient race of anthros (Mobians?) that had some access to ancient 'technology' that was advanced, and I had wondered if all forms of anthro animals are similarly descended from the Babylonians. I mean, it would make sense considering you have humans and walking-talking animals right next to small animals and realistic Earth animals. I don't expect that to be the case (as it's just way too much riding on just one game). But I thought the idea was worth conjuring and asking about. If I recall correctly, the official cosmology of Sonic's "universe" in the games is that there's Earth and "Sonic's World," and they travel between them off-screen whenever convenient?

A couple things need to be noted. It's probably safe to say that most of the shit Trump has said he doesn't have an institutional belief in. He's a windbag, almost psychotically vain and probably ultra extreme in American exceptionalism. But very few of his "views" have been established in a way that I think shows Trump actually believes any of them. They can't not nominate him when he's the only candidate left in the race; and they can't prevent him from running in the first place. Yeah, there's the "actively courting elements of the voter base the GOP has been trying to silently appeal to" bit, but they deserve a bit of credit here. They've tried everything they could to keep him from running and gaining popularity.

Ahh, Alger loves being theatrical. He's more about conveying emotions then telling the truth. That's really the simplest way to explain it. So the grand tale of us debating for an entire week? Beats me why he wrote that, I did not travel in time or had advance knowledge, as you must have assumed. He's from Quebec. Usually when he talks weird, I assume it's a French phrase or logic that doesn't quite translate to English. Perhaps a bit racist/ assumptive of me, but it helps me stay sane during the weirder moments. As for me being baffled, correct. That's my brain needing time to digest this curveball of Sega's marketing. You have to admit, it's a bit unexpected. My initial bafflement is the only aspect of this article that I "participated" with. It didn't last a full week, tough. As for the rest of that article, as stated before, it's written from an emotional perspective rather then a journalistic one. it essentially translates to "I like the idea of Sega reaching a non nerdy demographic, but I fear they do it too soon. (As in, before fixing the reputation of the games)" This involves a few non-proven assumptions, such as that only non-nerdy people use facial creams. I know you hate that kind of thinking, but then again, that's why you're the Journalist/ Detective and he's more a rallier of the people. Diffrent minds, and all that. I don't support that statement myself, as I already noticed Sonic Stadium folks disproving the assumed demographic for beauty products in the comments beneath your article. I do have sympathy for people gaining confusion that we're getting news about Sonic Mud before any big Videogame news, tough. But what can you do? Does that suffice as an explanation for this mystery? Oh, hey. Brows held high's still going? Must have missed Kyle left Channel Awesome. New Historicism? Taking a piece of art out of it's Art context and back into a historical context. Sure, that sounds like something I would do. It's critized for pushing an Agenda? That's not my intent, but I suppose that's a valid critism you could accuse me off. I am more biased and pushing into a direction then I'm willing to admit sometimes. Definitly something I need to keep an eye out for. "Elsewhere, Paglia has suggested that New Historicism is "a refuge for English majors without critical talent or broad learning in history or political science. [...] To practice it, you must apparently lack all historical sense." Hmm, that sounds like a thing people who hate my video's would yell at me. Uh, yeah, I don't know what to say. I'm not entirely history focused, but context is impotant to me. So yeah, it's safe to say I hit a lot of the New Historicism markers, altough not by conscious design. I should buy one of their books and see how it reads.

I can get being annoyed at there not being a big Sonic game this year, or at how they've been teasing all of these little announcements. The latter especially. But I don't think there's a big outcry because of it though, not outside of fan forums which are usually just echo chambers with the same ten people repeating the same opinion anyway. All I'm saying is it being an anniversary year is far from a guarantee of a big new Sonic game being released. Especially if Sega is serious about giving developers more time to develop games to ensure quality. Not that one won't be released, but it's probably best not to hype yourself up before anything is actually announced.
  41. 1 point
Do Zelda fans have the same expectations concerning what happens on anniversaries that we do? Do they expect a big console game every five years because Nintendo is insistent on making that a tradition? Because if not, that's probably one of the differences between the contexts of each franchise's release schedules that Sega was referring to. I guarantee you if Sega weren't intent on hyping this year up like they do every fifth year of this franchise wherein they inevitably release a console game, people would give the same amount of fucks they do in weird off years when little to nothing releases. True, it technically doesn't matter when a Sonic game releases. The issue is that Sega is hyping up this year like they do others with effectively nothing to show for it aside from a convention.

We had another topic like this a while back, to which I gave some extensive thoughts. So, for the sake of interest, here's a repost of it with some new content: (Okay, gonna go super-extensive on this one, since I really do think this show does have the potential to be really good) -More effort in areas besides writing/voice acting: While Sonic Boom does position itself as a sitcom, where writing and voice acting are the most important elements to get right, that does not excuse the poor physical timing for character animation, the practically non-existent soundtrack or the repetitive character interactions. Some of Only Fools and Horses' best moments stem from perfect comedic timing and reactions, Last of the Summer Wine proved how an incredible soundtrack could make itself much more memorable and enchanting (for lack of a better word) and Red Dwarf managed to get away with the same four characters for nearly 30 years by giving each of them enough personality; warts, unexpected traits and all; to bounce off of each other in several ways. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE OTHER PEOPLE'S MUSIC FOR 2/3 OF YOUR SOUNDTRACK: For a series renowned for fantastic music, Boom has a horrendous tendency at ripping off other people's work for their soundtrack. Be it Yakety Sax with some notes changed, the poor man's 20th Century Fox tune, or FUCKING CAN'T STOP BY RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS AT A HIGHER KEY, the show has a serious problem with musical plagiarism that could get it into serious trouble if nothing's done for it. At the very least, it's insulting to hear when most of these rip-offs are actually worse than the originals (if you're going to rip off other people's songs, take a lesson from Dragon Ball's Kenji Yamamoto and do it well). -A better script editor: I don't care what some folks say; 11 minutes is more than enough time to tell a compelling story with lots of humour, adventure, intrigue and all that jazz, as Adventure Time, Regular Show and Steven Universe have constantly proven. I believe the writers are capable of telling good stories that wrap up well within that time, but that they need a better editor to tell them when certain jokes are going on for too long and need to be either shortened or cut altogether in order to improve the pacing (the birthday cake gag in Eggheads could've done with that; seriously, it made that scene from Episode 24 of Evangelion feel as fast as Sonic himself). -Actual sodding sound design: I'm not speaking specifically about the lack of soundtrack (which is also a serious problem in and of itself), but also how there's no background noise whatsoever. If there isn't any dialogue, and that can happen, all that's left is dead silence. There's no jungle ambience, seaside waves or chatting crowds to make the world feel more alive; a result that makes sense in the sterile halls of Eggman's base, but otherwise makes the show feel needlessly uncomfortable and awkward. -Swap between adventure stories and comedic plots: Considering Boom's a French-American production, I'm surprised nobody tried to take inspiration from the plots of the Asterix comics to vary up what happens in the show. For newcomers, Asterix has two general plot outlines that swap every book or so: a story set in the main characters' village, where a new element is introduced to provoke interaction between the many villagers and are more character-driven, and a story where the main characters head off to a distant land, where they react to the many strange foreign things they encounter and deal in a little bit of satire. Boom has dealt with the former, practically to the point of overkill by never changing what happens, and would do itself some kind of favour by going on adventures outside the same four locations. -Give Knuckles more to do: Dear writers of all things, having a one-note dumb character is an endlessly stupid thing to do, mainly because it makes them really unbearable whenever they speak and bores the viewers by never surprising them. If you want to know how to do a not-so-bright character right, go watch Ed Edd n Eddy and pay particular attention to Ed. He's not booksmart, and mostly speaks in non-sequiturs (buttertoast, anyone?), but that's not the extent to his character. He adores chickens and gravy, he has a ridiculous obsession with monster movies & comics that can lead him to confuse them with reality (he started what was ostensibly a death cult for one episode after reading about it in a comic), he's by far and away one of the strongest cartoon characters ever written, he gets on with everyone really quite well (when he's not with Eddy, at any rate) and his loyalty towards the other two Eds is very admirable. Give Knuckles that kind of depth, and I'll be happy to watch the show all day, every day. -Make it interesting!: Let me ask y'all this - is there any reason to watch any episode of Boom more than once or twice? I'd like to know, because I can't think of anything. All there is to each episode is simply the script presented, and little else. There aren't any background jokes or elements to catch on a second-time around, there's nothing that adds to the series or its characters in any way that doesn't involve desperately grasping for straws (which I frequently did to convince myself that there was more going on than was actually the case) and simply no real hook to watching more than ten episodes. Give me an interesting story arc, even a subtle bit in the background, some backstory on the characters to make them more compelling, or anything that won't have me changing the channel and wondering what the whole point of this was (besides making money, of course). If you haven't picked up the common link between all of these points, allow me to sum this whole thing up: THERE'S NOT ENOUGH EFFORT PUT INTO THIS SHOW; PUT MORE INTO IT! THEN IT'LL BE THE BEST SONIC TV SHOW OUT THERE! (At least for me, at any rate)

Well since both Shadow and Metal were going to be in the Boomverse from the get go, Freiberger and the crew had to put them in somehow. Granted, I'm sure they'll find better use for the two in the second season but outside of Metal and Shadow, I just find the chances of seeing other pre-existing characters in Boom very unlikely after the reveal.
