...based on what? Are we even reading the same thread here? Sega's PR has repeatedly taken the piss out of '06 and the circumstances surrounding it. Sega themselves have already specified that the game releases in 2017, and prior to that already straight up said they're focusing on quality first and foremost. The trailer in the opening post is literally titled Project Sonic 2017 Debut Trailer. And even if for some stupid reason they suddenly took back everything they've already said and push forward the release date for Christmas money, I need to reiterate that Sonic Team has kept this project under wraps since 2013, which already gives this game a head start of over two years worth over what 06 was given. If you're basing this off anything other than childish superstition then I'd like to hear more, otherwise kindly don't make assumptions like this. To be blunt, it's obnoxious.

A general rule on the internet is that if something exists, no matter what that something is, at least two people will be a fan. Though I'd be willing to venture that they're more interested in his official Sonic works than him. I admit that I have little experience with comic books of any kind, but I can tell that stuff like the idea of somebody with the mentality of Sonic being evil or giving the characters families makes for plots that are, if nothing else, interesting. If this doesn't prove that the lawsuit and creation of the Lara Su Chronicles had little to nothing to do with sticking it to Sega and Archie for stealing copyrights, I don't know what will. Penders can talk all he likes about how triumphant the Lara Su Chronicles is for artists rights, how it shows once and for all how Sonic is meant to be, but at the end of the day, its transparent how much of an ego project and attempted cash cow it is. How disappointing-- the concept of continuing the old universe is actually being attempted by some fans with little issue from Sega and much acclaim from the fandom, showing clear interest and support for the old universe on the part of dedicated fans and openness to the old universe on Sega's part. If Penders put actual effort into the Lara Su Chronicles and managed to produce something good, there'd be plenty of people willing to put aside their bitterness over the lawsuit to buy his comic and support more endeavors from him, because the appeal of the old universe is really that strong for a lot of fans. Plus he could've gotten a mention by Sonic social media or something-- Sega's known to be very supportive towards unofficial creative endeavors provided that they're really good, and that mention would basically be free advertising. But instead we get character designs and art which can be nicely described as uninspired, molasses-slow progress on writing, art, etc., and disappointment from the writing that we have seen. What a shame.

So a couple of years ago, SSMB user -Mark- found a couple of Sonic comics that most of us hadn't seen before. These comics turned out to have originated from the News of the World "Sunday" magazine in the early nineties, but unfortunately it was near impossible to track any others down as they were printed in the supplement and not the actual newspaper. A couple of us did eventually manage to get a few strips together, but the magazines were so hard to find and very expensive when they did pop up, so it was starting to look like we'd never get a complete series of them together, if it was indeed still out there. Around the same time I was in touch with Sonic the Comic artist Richard Elson who confirmed that he was also the artist on these strips as most of us had suspected. He also provided some additional information and it turned out that a few people who worked on the UK Sonic the Hedgehog yearbooks were also involved with these; all of the strips were written and edited by yearbook editor Barrie Tomlinson, and the last chunk were drawn by artist Sandy James. Many of the later Elson strips were coloured by John M Burns wh also worked on STC. Even more interestingly, he told me that he did in fact have an almost complete collection of these in his personal archives and that he would be happy to loan these to me under the condition that I scanned them in and shared them with the community as we thought it would be cool if people were able to see more of them considering how obscure they are. Richard was missing a couple of strips from the collection he gave me, but through the issues that myself and Hogfather had managed to collect, along with Mark's original scans and a few that were uploaded later by Tumblr user hypermikey, we've been able to get an almost complete collection together... so behold... The Sonic Sunday Strips Archive We believe that we're now only two issues away from a complete collection and the episodes that seems to be missing are from the 29th May 1994 and 13th November 1994 magazines. On the off chance that anyone here may have them or know someone who does, we would love to add them just to finish off the archive so everyone can have a look through them. The comics are quite interesting as it ran alongside STC and there are a few little things that seem to link both universes together, despite most people-- even those who were involved with the comic-- not knowing of its existence. For example, we have a strip from 10th April 1994 where Robotnik's new AoStH-inspired design debuts. This was the week after his AoStH design was introduced by Nigel Kitching in the April 1st issue of the comic printed that same year, which also happened to be drawn by Richard Elson. Another episode has Sonic being shrunk by one of Robotnik's inventions and during one part of the strip, he's trapped in a spider's web while miniaturised. I couldn't help but wonder if there was a little nod to this somewhere later in STC when Sonic encounters a giant spider and is trapped in its web during the Shanazar arc (all the way forward in issue #152 in 1999) and mentions that it's his worst nightmare, even though it's something that had never been brought up in the comic at all before. This was also in a strip drawn by Richard Elson. On the whole the comics are generally silly little things without much too detail put into them (as a lot of newspaper comics are), but as a Fleetway fan it's cool to see some small references that may have been nods to my favourite Sonic universe, and it's always nice when something obscure surfaces and is able to be enjoyed by everyone. Again, a MASSIVE thank you goes out to Richard for making this possible, and also to Mark and hypermikey for providing a lot of the pages we were missing. You guys all rock!

That's pretty much common knowledge when it comes to anime. The problem is the folks who are doing the dub are the pokemon company international and they're just being cheap. The reason why they got rid of the 4kids voice cast and got new actors was because didn't want to pay more it's just so frustrating that they would go the cheap route considering Pokemon is one of the biggest franchises ever.

The Lost Ones bombed, and for all that he tries to claim it was a 'cult hit' or whatever, the simple reality is that his 'own' work just doesn't have the kind of draw his Sonic related work does (I put the quotation marks up there due to the fact that Lost Ones is a *very* thinly veiled copy of X-men). Hell, he even tried to use Sonic to advertise the damned trainwreck- I've read The Lost Ones, and so I've seen the full breadth of Penders work when not having to deal with editors or the like. The result? Inept, dull, and boring. The only hope for The Lost Ones to ever be anything more than it was would be for Penders to take a page out of Liefeld's book and let someone with far more skill and talent re-invent it.

One thing I'd want in Sonic Mania is a better balance between the Flame, Thunder and Aqua sields, since in Sonic 3&K Thunder was almost always the best choice. However, I know that's very hard to pull off, since rings are everywhere but fire and water cannot be put everywhere.

06 was made in less than a year. The last Sonic Team game was released three years ago, so it's pretty safe to say that this is a completely different case entirely. The only grounds for comparison between the two games so far is the tone, and frankly we still know far too little about that to draw a solid connection anyway. What we have so far isn't much better than judging a book by its cover, to be frank.

Ta for all the comments. Had to watch and read a lot of Thomas & Friends first, as well as study carefully how they "animate" on that show to make it as close as possible presentation wise. Twas an idea I had for a pretty long time now (probably since around 2011) where I wanted to do Sonic 1 but also wanted Sonic to not talk at all. This would have also meant having a narrator on hand, and being the fan of Thomas & Friends and of inputting references/homages that I am, this felt like a good way to do things. The only problem it presented was not being able to do too many fully animated sequences (Well, full enough in the way I do things) without throwing out the intended homage overall. Lots of still images for the odd shots here and there, but to be honest, there were lots of those in the show. Could've worked, but thought I'd try it this way first. Always other animations to do for that! Also intended to stretch this concept to Sonic 2, CD & 3, focusing on other characters in different parts of the games in the way Thomas stories were written (where an engine is usually full of themselves and get themselves into trouble through their own hubris [Amy's story about getting captured on Little Planet] or at the point where they feel bad about the trouble they caused and wishing to make amends somehow [Tails would save Sonic from the Death Egg destruction, while Knuckles proves himself a capable guardian by saving the Master Emerald by himself this time]) But there was no time to get those done (even though it's all fully written and voice acted, might still put them out somewhere at some point) and the whole presentation/"joke" might have worn off if it was 8ish minutes long in total. Ah well! Just means I can always do those games in different styles some other time. Wonder if Sonic 2 can work as a musical...?

I'd honestly be happy with a new boost game. I still like the gameplay of Colors and Gens a lot, and its the most consistently good gameplay style that modern Sonic has. But I would hope that Sonic Team would try to expand on it somewhat-- I think the controls and style have been sufficiently refined for Sonic Team to have the liberty to make a few changes. I for one think that some stuff from Lost World would help here-- for example, wall running could facilitate good vertical exploration by giving Sonic more freedom traversing his environments while at the same time providing a challenge to players as they need build the needed momentum and boost gauge to wall run effectively. I think somebody from Sega mentioned something about the fact that not all fans would be happy with the next product but that he think it'll still be good. That definitely hints towards Sonic Team finally picking a style and core mechanic to stick to-- a move which will definitely turn off people who aren't fans of that style or mechanic but is ultimately what the franchise needs as it is the first step to consistency. As for Classic Sonic, I could take him or leave him. I don't have much investment in the Classic era, to the point where I'm kind of surprised that I'm hyped for Mania. But being a comparatively new fan, I haven't really gotten sick of him either. I guess I just don't want Classic Sonic to suck in this game-- if he doesn't suck, I will be a happy camper.

Personally I didn`t like the werewolf all that much but I never complained about him on threads or anywhere online lol. I just played the bits in the game I liked. I also feel like with more given time Lost World would be considered good instead of meh or medicore. If only they had more time to balance everything out design wise.

The Secret Service made one of the finest subtweets in history today, making a vague remark that it is "aware of the comments made earlier," meaning it is aware of Trump's comments. It remains to be seen if anything comes of it, but... The fact he said normal voters can't do anything about Clinton, but gun owners can, speaks volumes. I don't buy his "I just meant voting/impeachment!" clarification. There would be no reason to single out the gun owners if so. If he's telling the truth, this is one more reason why he shouldn't be allowed in the Oval Office. I can see why he wants to just give all his duties to his VP. Maybe beneath the facade of insanity, he actually recognizes he's not fit to be President. Wouldn't it be beautiful if both Clinton and Trump are found guilty of wrongdoing, but neither sees any action taken against them due to their wealth and status?

Let me say, first of all, that I don't really know how you measure quality, that's a very subjective thing in the Sonic series. What would Sonic 2017 need to have in order to be a 'high quality' game? There's a chance it'll be very divisive, judging from the different things people express they want from current-day Sonic. And, as I said in another thread, I think the "focus on quality" is genuine, and Aaron Webber is a big part of it. He said that SEGA is now in a better position to implement feedback as it is received, and I'm pretty sure he knows how to summarize feedback to get the best out of it. It seems obvious to me that Sonic Mania is a really good thing despite being considered "too nostalgic" or "lackluster" by some, and it'll serve to introduce the classic gameplay that started it all to new audiences!

Yeah just to add to this. This was... a seemingly impossible task at one point. Whilst we had a few of the strips between us, ebay prices for these things were going from £15-£30 each, not because it was Sonic, but because it was an old newspaper and when you have one guy selling them and suddenly people start buying, they whack up the price. So it wasn't financially viable to keep buying them. We even contacted the News of the World directly at one point (before they were shut down) and they had no idea what they were so they were no help either. Almost nobody had a complete collection, it was a damn miracle we got half of the strips, let alone all but 2 of them. Lucky has been absolutely instrumental in getting this collection online and available for everybody, she deserves the most credit out of all of this. But huge thanks need to go to Richard Elson, without him this would not be anywhere near complete. But hey, in about a year we went from around 7 of these things scattered in different places in poor condition. To a near complete collection scanned to a very high level of detail.

Really glad to hear that future updates will still be happening. I'm sure releasing the game won't be a problem. It just needs to be "leaked" on 4chan or other out-of-the-way venues and it'll spread from there.

First off, its been DCMA'd not C&D, 2 different things. Second, who gives a flying monkeys ass what Nintendo does at this point. its futile, it got taken down on Metroid Database but go to 4chan's /v/ and you'll literally find 100 download links to the game. what bothers me is that somehow the DCMA made people stop talking about it all of a sudden, and that really sucks because this game deserves more attention then whatever the hell Nintendo is churning out. Third, bugfixes are coming. hopefully that means the ports are being worked on too: https://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/2016/08/the-future-of-am2r.html

The new tracking system is useless if you're not near a Pokestop, by the way, making play outside of towns and cities almost impossible. The exact opposite of how Pokemon is portrayed in literally every other piece of media.

...Who the hell eats Marowak? Why would anyone try to eat Marowak? It has pretty good defenses and I don't know what could eat it, besides the obvious things like Groudon or something. I could kind of understand Mandibuzz but it would be more for its skull and bone than anything. Unless Team Rocket is actually trying to cook up Marowak burgers. Considering they tried to sell Slowpoke's tail as a delicacy I wouldn't be surprised.

    Sonic Headcanons

This topic is about Sonic headcanons, as in stuff that makes canonical sense to the series. Whether that's Sega, Archie/SatAM, Boom, X etc canon is your pick, but yeah. How did we go from that to dramatic series/character rewrites? That's not headcanon material, guys, that's fan fiction. And while I do like playing with that thought every now and then myself (but not quite to the extent being posted in here...) this isn't the place for that. If you have ideas like that you want to share, then making a topic in the Sonic Showcase would be a good idea.

I find it laughable that he's suddenly acting like he's a champion of Ian Flynn, given the crap he's said about him and his work in the past, including all but accusing him of plagiarizing unused ideas... because evidently, Bunnie and Antoine marrying was just such a uniquely Ken Penders idea that of course anybody taking the logical step of a long term couple getting married would HAVE to pilfering HIS precious ideas. To say nothing of the fact that he's made it more than clear that if he had his way, Flynn's entire run would be erased so that he could return to where he left off.

I'm completely and utterly unsurprised that when Tenko tweeted that point to Ken a bit ago, Ken completely changed the subject to "So basically you have no problem screwing over Ian, Tracy and the rest?" That wasn't even remotely the point, Ken, and you know it. It is a blatantly loaded question, though. No one is advocating Archie not paying royalties to people. The only thing that was said there was pointing out the reason WHY Archie would choose to reprint new stuff over old stuff. That doesn't make it something morally right, or something I (or presumably Tenko) even support. Shooting the messenger with a loaded question. Amazing. (Also, Tenko, if you really are going to keep up this argument with him, just point out that explaining Archie's reasoning doesn't mean you support them doing it. That's really all you need to do.)

Taking a look at the rebuilds, the Crabmeat one looks pretty good! As for the Motobug... ehhh. Also, surprised nobody caught a screencap of this. You can see at the bottom right of the package, you see a picture of the Adventure World. As you know, every brand has an open-world for your character to explore and do missions in addition to the main levels. Need a better look? Good thing the trailer has the same pic! As you can see, it's a mish-mash of many levels such as Green Hill, Chemical Plant and even Carnival Night! You know what that means, right? LEGO BARRELS. Now we gotta see the Battle Arena it unlocks...

The original screenshot from Mania isn't mine, but I thought this was a neat comparison to make anyway. I love how a lot of the poses being used in this game are pulled from proto-Sonic 1 stuff, with Sonic's level clear animation being based on that seen in early Sonic 1 screenshots and his "looking up" pose being based on concept art for Sonic himself. Can't wait to see what kind of easter eggs the development team sneaks into Knuckles' and Tails' animations.

I never considered additional humans in Sonic to be a problem, considering I was never under the mindset that there weren't more humans aside from Eggman. I just looked at it the same way I look at Looney Tunes. The humans and talking animals coexist and nobody cares otherwise. Even at that, I feel the whole "separate world" story is sort of overplayed and is pretty much never done well to the point where I would have taken Archie's (admittedly cringeworthy) backstory over it. D:
