If anything, the fact that we have that comic is precisely WHY so many people didn't like the concept for the movie in the first place.

Well, there's your movie comparison. Sonic Live is totally a better story than the movie. It's not like - one of the most despised issues of the whole Archie run or anything. Nope, not at all. Y'know, there's not a lot of things you can place the Sonic movie above in terms of quality...but if the trailer with the new design was any indication, even that is a higher bar than Sonic Live. Also, he gave out this gem:

This episode aired the season before “Lisa the Vegetarian”, and the only reason Lisa stayed a veggie after that episode was because Paul McCartney asked them to make it permanent. The Simpsons predicted their own damn character development.

Honestly at this point I am very tired of the constant "leaks" that keep happening. It's just like back and forth between "not happening" and "is happening", arguments over whether the leaker has a good rep or not, etc. It's pretty much all on Twitter. I hope the new character gets announced soon.

(Please see below for important update!) In a lawsuit from the U.S.’s Federal Trade Commission (FTC), YouTube was found to have violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA). In response, YouTube is rolling out a new set of policies, effective January 2020. While I am concerned about kids' privacy online, the new rules are potentially very problematic. All videos on YouTube will be classified based on whether or not they’re “children’s content.” (This affects YouTube proper, not just “YouTube Kids”.) “Kids” videos will have numerous features disabled, including likes, comments, notifications, and targeted ads. (Targeted ads make more money.) It doesn’t matter if the viewer is logged in as an adult; YouTube "will treat data from anyone watching children’s content on YouTube as coming from a child, regardless of the age of the user." (Apparently parents can’t be trusted to stop kids from using their accounts, which seems pretty dumb, considering a kid using their parent’s account could use it to access adult content…) Creators will be required to report whether or not their videos are for kids (meaning ages 0-13). Creators could get in trouble if they give the incorrect answer. And here’s the really scary part: YouTube will “use machine learning to find videos that clearly target young audiences, for example those that have an emphasis on kids characters, themes, toys, or games.” There are many adult Sonic fans, but Sonic could easily be categorized as a children's series. Does this mean that all videos featuring Sonic characters and games will be classified as “children’s content”? Not necessarily. According to YouTube in 2017, “there are many cartoons in mainstream entertainment that are targeted towards adults, and feature characters doing things we wouldn’t necessarily want children to see. Those may be OK for YouTube.com, or if we require the viewer to be over 18, but not for someone younger. Similarly, an adult dressed as a popular family character could be questionable content for some audiences, but could also be meant for adults recorded at a comic book convention.” But what about videos where it’s more ambiguous? What about channels that are intended for adults but don't necessarily have explicitly "adult" content? If such creators label their videos as not-for-kids, will they get in trouble with YouTube? Should all Sonic YouTube creators start sprinkling the F-word into every video, in order to ensure that they’re able to label them as not-for-kids? Or would YouTube classify such videos as inappropriate children's content that should be removed? These kinds of questions need to be clarified. Search “youtube kids ftc rules” on YouTube and you’ll see that numerous creators are very concerned about these new policies. But as of yet, I haven’t seen a single Sonic-related YouTube video about these rule changes, which tells me that not enough Sonic video creators are aware of them. IMPORTANT UPDATE! (Oct. 11) Turns out the FTC is planning to modify COPPA very soon, so they're taking public comments on it until October 23. Among the items they're seeking input on, there's (at least) one really important one: The part that forces websites like YouTube to treat all viewers of "children's content" as children, no matter what the viewer's actually age is. (See here.) According to a group of senators, changing this rule would weaken children's privacy. I'm sure these senators mean well, but I don't think they realize there are actually many adults who enjoy content that the FTC might consider "child-directed." There is a very blurry line between content for kids and adults! And as one comment points out, "It seems that the only way to know if you are violating COPPA or not is to wait until [the FTC prosecutes] you." As some of you have pointed out, YouTube brought this situation on itself, to a large extent. Even so, this is the law, so it may also affect other websites soon. If you live in the US, please consider submitting a comment!! (Link) Please make sure your comment applies directly to the law, or it will be ignored. Consider starting your message with something like the following: "The COPPA rule should be amended so that, if users identify their age when creating an account, general audience platforms can treat users as the age they identified, even when users are viewing child-directed content." Consider reading Tips for Submitting Effective Comments. Of note: "The comment process is not a vote –one well supported comment is often more influential than a thousand form letters" Also: All SonicTubers, please consider making a video about this urgent issue! (As a final note, please don't forget that kids' privacy is very important; but I honestly don't believe the upcoming YT changes will help kid at all.)

Why "I" dislike Amy's Piko Piko Hammer

Amy wasn't toned down because of political correctness it was because people outside and inside the fanbase used to go on about how her manic antics were annoying. Even then it wasn't by a whole lot. An actual feminist push would probably have her impact the experience in a meaningful way. That was more likely to happen before 2010.

I asked that before, but didn't got an answer, so I'll ask again: Why in hell are you people listening to him? I think we agree that Pender's opinions are stupid and that he WANTS attention people are giving him. Because there is no such thing as bad publicity and he doesn't have anything else. He's got no power over this franchise, expect the one we give him by spreading his post. Ignore him and he'll disappear in thin air. Why waste precious time on Earth by listening to him? If you need moronic opinions so badly, I can just make up some for you.

As much as I miss it, I don't know why everyone insist the roster be ordered by series in a game like Ultimate, seeing as it's not only helped me to keep track of its chronological order, but it's taught me how to keep chronological track of other series as well. If we wanna do it the next game, that's fine.

Several pieces of evidence to the contrary exist on that one. Why didn’t Knuckles simply teleport to the emerald after Eggman made off with it in S3&K? Why did Knuckles need to actively hunt for the emerald pieces in the Adventure games instead of theoretically teleporting to each of their exact locations? ...wut?

    (1) Sonic has a long-term objective beyond just thwarting Eggman, or responding to trouble that appears in front of his face — Sonic is a freedom fighter. This isn't a structured organization like the SatAM Freedom Fighters — it's simply how Sonic frames his purpose in his mind. He loves the freedom that his speed abilities give him, and he has a righteous anger when he sees freedom is being taken away from others — in this case by Eggman taking advantage of the small, weak woodland critters to power his machines. In other words, Eggman is Sonic's most frequent enemy because he's the one most frequently taking freedom away from defenseless creatures... but even when Eggman is down and gone, Sonic is not sitting around waiting for his return. He's proactively looking to help rescue his fellow animals when they need it, whether it's dramatic or not (like helping a confused chicken cross a street). (2) Angel Island is virtually uninhabited aside from Knuckles, and it's been that way since the Ancient Echidnas were wiped out by Chaos, prior to the creation of the Master Emerald... once Angel Island became a floating island, it basically went "off the map." Nobody knows Angel Island exists. There are stories about "a floating island" but it seems simply like a legend. Sonic & Tails & Eggman know about it because they had their S3&K adventure there. The wider world becomes more aware of it when it crash lands into the Mystic Ruins in SA1, but once Angel Island returns to the sky, it again goes "off the map." It's like the Bermuda Triangle, where you know the legend but it doesn't seem like a real destination you could find. Knuckles has a psychic link to the Master Emerald, and is able to "see" from the M.E.'s perspective in his mind's eye. This allows him to "guard' the Emerald even when he is not physically beside it. And since almost nobody knows about Angel Island or the Master Emerald, Knuckles is able to leave and spend time on Earth below with Sonic & everyone else without abdicating his responsibilities. (3) Knuckles is able to teleport to the Master Emerald at will. This makes it easy for him to come and go from Angel Island, while still keeping the location of the floating island a mystery to everyone else. (4) Amy Rose is Sonic's sister. She loves and adores him and looks up to him, and he thinks her affection is annoying and off-putting. She wants to join him on adventures and he doesn't want her to, because she could get hurt or kidnapped. (5) Amy & Tails have the "will they, won't they?" romantic story beats. They both are big fans of Sonic, which is their initial bonding point, but as they get to know each other more, Amy and Tails both begin to appreciate their own abilities more, and each other's. Amy's piko piko hammer is a gift that Tails made for her — "If you're gonna go after Eggman, you should take this. Don't tell Sonic I did this for you!" (6) This one isn't "headcanon" as much as "what I'd do if I were in charge of developing Sonic Mania 2" — You'd have three play-styles. —Sonic, emphasizing running, dashing, jumping —Knuckles, emphasizing climbing —Amy & Tails / Tails & Amy — emphasizing puzzle-solving and teamwork — one follows the other, you can switch between the two, and need to use Tails flying, or Amy's hammer, or a combination of the two in order to access certain areas.

I don't think being able to roll or not should be this be all end all thing for Sonic characters. Rolling is Sonic's trademark ability and I think making every character able to do that just as well as he does cheapens it. Plus it encourages Sonic Team to just make other playable characters just reskins of Sonic, which to me is just boring. A solution to the momentum problem would be to allow other characters to use their attacks without slowing down so much. The non rolling abilities just need to be buffed.

Promare was good. Somehow it manages to strike a balance being appropriately subdued and delightfully madcap when it needs to and that's also reflected with both of the leads (with Galo representing the latter and Lio serving as the former) and the dynamic both of them have as the film goes along. The animation is also really good with its use of colors and the use of 2D/CG (the backgrounds in particular really gave me parallels of The PowerPuff Girls Movie). It's really unfortunate that domestic showings are limited, as I'd say seeing it in a theater with an audience also really boosts the entertainment factor to a really fun high. Some partially masked-spoilers.

    Sonic Headcanons

Oh boy, I have a bunch of implausible dumb headcanons to share, glad I found this thread! 1. Expanding on this, all the non-realistic "humans" seen in Sonic, such as Eggman, Professor Pickle and the GUN soldiers are actually Homo Segadus, a human like species or human subspecies with supernatural physical ability, explaining Eggman's strength in Riders and Lost World and the durablitiy that many of them show, in addition to them being able to casually travel throughout the unique geometry of Sonic's world such as loops and springs. (Kind like Mario who is Homo Nintendonus and has superhuman abilities) 2. Sonic's world is actually officially named Mobius, but it contains both Homo Segadus (seen in the Adventure games) and Mobians (seen in Forces) along with other miscallenous creatures like Chaos and Animal Friends. It is occasionally referred to as Earth, but it's not actually named that. (Earth means ground too, so they might as well call the planet that, I mean why did we name our planet Earth anyway, it's just a name) 3. Eggman originally just wanted to be a great scientist that would do a lot of great things for humanity and science as a whole, inspired by his grandfather. But after seeing what the world did to his grandpa for being a genius, something snapped within him, he figured that the world would reject his own intellect and kill him as well and thus deciced to take over and change the system to MAKE the world love him and get revenge and justice for his grandfather's execution, eventually twisting his desire for being a great scientist into the megalomania we see today. This fanfic illustrates it wonderfully: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4938123/1/Little-Ivo 4. Miles Prower's parents Mr and Mrs Prower were scientists involved with Project Shadow and they either left him behind or sent a baby Tails to their home planet to keep him safe as they felt it wasn't safe to be on the Ark with the Black Arms dealings happening. They planned to quit Project Shadow and come back to Earth to raise their son after things started getting too suspicious, but then the crackdown happened. and they were killed. Tails doesn't know of this, but wouldn't really hold too much of a grudge and want revenge like Shadow if he ever did. Though he would be saddened and somewhat bitter both about his parents being killed and them choosing their work over their child. (They could have left Project Shadow as soon as the Black Arms stuff happened and raised Tails, but they chose to stay and decided to leave too late), however he'd quickly get over it and forgive his parents, possibly hoping to see them again in the afterlife or something. He'd not hate the current GUN either as it has dramatically changed since the dark days of slaughtering a space colony's population to cover up an illegal project and if confronted, the commander would genuinely apologize to Tails on behalf of his predecessors. He'd also not hate those who participate in the GUN Massacre either, since practically all of them are traumatized or depressed like Maria's killer seen in Sonic X. (the bit about GUN explained further in another headcanon) 5. The Hedgehog isn't a proper surname. Sonic's real name is Sonic Needlemouse, but neither he nor his friends know that since his parents died or otherwise disappeared when he was a baby and he grew up mostly alone on Christmas Island with Animal Friends to keep him company before he left in search of adventure. His origins besides his real surname however, is still a mystery. He's probably go by Sonic The Hedgehog even if he knew about his real name anyways though since he'd think his past doesn't matter and he'd prefer to look forward instead. 6. In the same vein, Shadow's surname isn't The Hedgehog either. His proper name would be either Shadow Doom (fittingly edgy) going by his birth father or Shadow Robotnik going by his "adoptive father", Gerald. But he obviously doesn't identify with them being his family so going by Shadow The Hedgehog is fine by him. 7. Finally, Silver's surname is also not The Hedgehog, but his future is most likely a death-filled wasteland post-retcon too, so his parents probably died when he was a baby and all traces of his past and origins were thoroughly destroyed (maybe he was a sole survivor of a disaster thanks to his powers) so there's no way to know what his real name ever was. As far as he's concerned, he's Silver The Hedgehog and that's that. 8. G.U.N used to be a lot more totalitarian and immoral back in the days of the ARK Genocide, with the leaders being obsessed with maintaining control over the world and keeping the people safe and blissful (much like the Dai Li from Avatar). However, eventually GUN started becoming less evil and eventually turned over to a mostly benevolent form of government after Tower (the current commander) took over. As he saw firsthand what GUN was responsible for, he put all his effort into making sure GUN never went back to their old ways and became an organization dedicated to protecting the world and its people instead of controlling them. He still held a grudge against Shadow and the Black Arms however but after the events of Shadow The Hedgehog any bad blood faded away, and by the time of Sonic 06 and onwards, GUN had become fully dedicated to its new purpose of protecting the world instead of conspirating to control it, as seen by its efforts to halt the Mephiles situation with Team Dark's cooperation and focusing on saving Rouge first instead of trying to secure the artifacts for themselves and dismissing Rouge as expendable.

Special care has been taken to stay as a faithful as possible to the limitations of the Genesis hardware and the standards of the Genesis Classic Sonic games. For starters, there is no more than 64 colors on screen, spread across 4 swatches. 5 FM music channels, a DAC channels, and additional PSG channels. Much research went into this side of the development. Genesis games both popular and obscure were used as reference points. I spoke with industry professionals that shipped official Genesis games in the 1990's as well as modders/hackers familiar with Genesis hardware (including some people in this community). The story is being reworked from the original to take place after Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The original Game Gear games seem to take place on a timeline separate from the main Genesis Sonic Team games. Since this remake brings the Game Gear game to the style of the Sonic Team games, I've made an effort to find a way to include it in the timeline, without changing the spirit of the original. I mean, I don't disagree, but, at least in the second trailer, we got closer to something more Sonic-y. The first trailer was a mess, it was anything but Sonic and should be forgotten. Now the second trailer we got a pretty good looking Green Hill Zone, nods to actual Sonic music and the Ramones' song that suits Sonic muuuuuuuch better than... Gangster's Paradise... Not to mention all the cool references. This trailer has more energy, more style. I won't say they "nail'd", but damn, can Tyson work some miracles, right? I'm not feeling Sonic's personality yet, but, to be honest... That's pretty much how the recent games been portraiting him anyways... Dare I say he sounds and acts better than a bunch of those games writen by Pontaff. But, OF COURSE, we're still getting the same old "fish out of water" plot where the cute hyperactive alien visitor has to be hidden in a bag, reacts to seeing the most mundane stuff for the first time (like a dog) and needs the help of a human that has no better things to do. So yeah, not very Sonic-y. But at least... A little more than before...? Also, look at this son of a bitch: Now that's one good looking Sonic.

I've always imagined Eggman had some superhuman capability but I never really thought about why. It's something he surprises everyone including himself with when he's worked up about something(like when he's running away from Sonic in Death Egg Zone lmao). The robotnik family line inexplicably being really strong is funny, I like that idea.

With a second controller, Maria is playable in Shadow the Hedgehog. She has a slap attack when playable, and is capable of destroying huge crates with her bare hands. Eggman, meanwhile, has been seen punching down walls in Lost World and even sending cars flying with his fists in Riders. He also shrugs off being sucked into the Eggmobile's propeller in Mania like it's no big deal. Ergo, my Sonic headcanon is that the Robotniks just have superhuman strength for some reason. Maybe Gerald's experiments have something to do with this.

I definitely don't think it's a great look to second-guess the harassment that Jones and co faced over Ghostbusters. It definitely happened, and happened big time, and asking whether it was all blown out of proportion or not is probably asking the wrong kinds of questions on that issue. That said, it's a shame that Leslie Jones got upset about the Ghostbusters 3 announcement... although in a weird way, I can kind of see where she's coming from? Sony made this big song and dance about making a 'Ghostbusters Universe' and, whether you liked Ghostbusters 2016 or not (I personally didn't mind it, wasn't terrible but it wasn't the best either) it at least seemed to indicate the start of an interesting refresh for the series. As much as I love Bill Murray, there's only so many times you should get him to don a proton pack before it starts looking a little lame, you know (and Murray famously didn't even want to do Ghostbusters 2, so...). My hope was that Ghostbusters 2016 was going to mark the start of some interesting new teams and stories. But I guess not. I'm not going to pre-judge this new film, it'll hopefully work out being quite a nice send-off for the original Ghostbusters gang (sans Egon), but yeah. Just not sure how this will work out beyond a 'Blues Brothers 2000' kind of deal (i.e. it's crap but they made it just to 'bring the band back together'), though. If you were a part of that refresh in 2016, like Leslie Jones, you'd probably think you'd be in it for the long haul too (or at the very least, a contributing part of future films etc). Going straight back to Stantz and Friends does kind of seem like the studio is sweeping all of that under the carpet. And if you worked hard on a film like Ghostbusters 2016 for seemingly little reward and a bunch of harassment for your trouble, you'd probably be a bit mad that you'd be forgotten about too. It's like, if you knew that was going to happen you'd have probably not signed up for Ghostbusters 2016 in the first place.
  46. 1 point
Nobody sane liked Ghostbusters 2016 and no amount of whining about le cheeto drumpf is going to get them to make a sequel to that shit. That said, I'm fucking tired of reboots and rehashes. Fucking stop already. The original movie was great because of a great cast who are now old or dead. Leave it alone now.

"let's reboot/revive a franchise carried entirely by specific actors. again"
  48. 1 point
Ironically, I'd consider them listening more to critics to be problematic. At this point I really want them to FOCUS on a direction, not constantly second guess themselves whenever someone has critisms. Heck it's why I stopped asking or wishing for anything specific anymore. I don't care what you do, even if it's a direction I don't like. Just FOCUS please. At this point it's their inability to devote themselves to a singular vision, even just within One game, let alone the series in general, I consider to be more problematic then any individual style direction or mistake they could be making. At least I hope this means Sega of America will be more hands off and let the American team work in peace, that's at least one distraction factor less to deal with. I'm not sure what to think about the American team handling it. On one hand, the Japanese are way better in taking chances and having the more shameless and energetic aproach that I like the most. On the other hand, the Americans are more reliable in terms of quality... Much as I'd think seeing the Freedom Fighters pop up somewhere would be neat, so far Sonic Team can't even handle the current cast. Heck, even the alleged main characters, in particular Knuckles and Amy, seem to helplessly stumble around in a desperate attempt to be relevant, so I'm not sure why you think Sonic Team can handle even more characters. It's probably safer to hope for a fangame to make some kind of fun action game set in the Archie universe rather then Sega doing anything senseble, if anything at all, with them. Either way, man, I really hope this doesn't mean Sega's only focused on Yakuza and Sonic now, with only 2 big teams. Then again, they did make a new Dayotona and House of the Dead, and there's a Panzer Dragoon remake coming, so there other IP's are still active. More active then they were for over a decade, in fact. Then again, I suppose they mostly just let other studio's do all the work.
