    The General 'Murican Politics Thread

Man, I haven't seen breakdowns this intense since the last Ace Attorney game I played.

America made the right choice. I'm glad Joe Biden will be the next President, and he's been on the ball so far. Much better than Trump's gut instinct and expectance of loyalty over all else. Hopefully we never have to hear from that piece of shit ever again, but lord knows he'll be crying about this for the rest of his life.

Y'know, the 2020 Presidential Election was literally a game of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Complete with Blue seemingly losing at the start, only to make a comeback and win.

Every time I play Breath of the Wild, I'm taken back to just how amazing my first playthrough of the game was. It's still one of the most magical and immersive gaming experiences of my entire life. I was totally lost to Hyrule for weeks. And I don't know if this is controversial or not, but I genuinely think that the fact that the game explains so few of its mechanics and encourages you to just do things your own way is a huge boon. A lot of things just don't get any kind of tutorial. I feel super sorry for anyone who had the game spoiled for them by watching gameplay videos and guides first.

Man this feels amazing. And do you know how shitty of a president you have to be for the world to celebrate like it did at the end of WW2 when they heard of your loss.

So, Biden's president now. Looks like Jimmy Kimmel just lost %50 of his jokes.

Celebrate, but don't get complacent. Democrats need to stay energized if we want a shot at taking control of the senate and undoing the damage Trump and McConnel have wrought. If you live in Georgia, make sure you vote in January, and everybody needs to donate to and/or volunteer for Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock's campaigns if they can.

In the early days of fandom, while most others kept relatively quiet, the Sonic fandom was always loud, so it ended up as a frequent target (I mean, the game reputations at the time didn't help, this was 2005-2008, but this is looking at the fandom specifically). Nowadays this is considered the norm for most fandoms, so the popular target tends to be whatever is popular at that moment.

Hey folks I managed to get my hands on the Sonic Mania Introduction Manual. This was an item that was only given out during conventions like the 2017 Comic Con Panel or PAX West. It was never sold anywhere else and is only obtainable by second hand sellers. Of course that means scalpers gonna scalp and the prices for the manuals, that were given away for free might I add, were ridiculously high. The prices ranged above 100 dollars or more. I think I share the same sentiment that Matt Manheimer, formerly of Tails Channel, had about this during the time it was happening: https://twitter.com/mattmannheimer/status/889942792751001602 https://archive.vn/idYMC I always wanted to see the contents inside this manual clearly as I was only able to see it through video or camera pictures. I specifically wanted to see the little writings the Mania staff wrote. I assumed when it first released that someone would scan this and I could see it that way. Three years later and it still hadn’t been scanned. I couldn’t believe that no one who had this manual ever even bothered to try and scan this. Admittedly, I feel I was a part of the problem since I did have it as well for over a year (and a half I think?) and never got around to scanning it myself. One day after my usual search for a sale I finally found one at a reasonable price. I immediately swooped in and bought it. I would like to give special thanks to the ebay user who sold it for just 15 dollars. I would give proper credit but unfortunately I don’t have the exact username anymore and it doesn’t appear in my purchase history either for some reason. All I have is their actual name which was on the cardboard postcard it was sent in. I’ll just say that their first name was Alli. So thank you very much Alli! The manual itself was in a clear plastic sleeve and there was this cute little hamburger sticker where Alli wrote their thanks on it. I thought I would share this too: Enough of the personal story though. I scanned the images at 600dpi and then exported them as PNG images. I have uploaded the whole manual over at archive.org. One version has the pages individually: https://archive.org/details/sonicmania-intromanual-paged/mode/2up The other has the pages together: https://archive.org/details/sonicmania-intromanual/mode/2up If you want the raw images at the highest resolution then there is a zip file download in the gray box where it says DOWNLOAD OPTIONS. Click on the link that says GENERIC RAW BOOK ZIP. The separated page version is 341MB. The full version is 332MB. I will also provide PDF links for both: https://ia601502.us.archive.org/4/items/sonicmania-intromanual-paged/sonicmania-intromanual-paged.pdf https://ia801400.us.archive.org/30/items/sonicmania-intromanual/sonicmania-intromanual.pdf If any of you think you can do a better job at scaling, cropping, or just editing it in any other way than I could (which I’m sure any of you can since I’m not that proficient with image editing) than I also have a zipped file folder containing the uncropped versions of these scans: http://www.mediafire.com/file/te9md7mh5eri5kj/sonicmania-intromanual-uncropped.zip/file Here’s a sample of what the uncropped version of the manual will look like if you try. The white space is from the scanner: (The preview image has to be reduced due to file size limitations for this forum so it’s not the actual size) Scanning it was a tedious process of scanning a page and reviewing if they came out very clean because at times there would be very noticeable spots of dirt or small hair on the pages which would frustrate me to try again. I would wipe the scanner so many times just so I made sure nothing would get caught in it but no matter what there would always be a piece scattered here and there so I would just choose the cleanest scan with the least spots to be a part of the final manual scan. This is one of the reasons why it took me this long to scan the entire thing in the first place. As the one who scanned this I can honestly admit that I don’t think I did a great job in scanning it since I had to sacrifice some of the pages edges getting cut but I was tired of it not being anywhere online so I just did the best I could do with this. Now here's some bonus stuff involving the manual According to Aaron Webber the manual went through over 20 revisions before finalizing. He also showed the old B&W printout they ran around for approval: https://archive.vn/eiUxx Simon Thomley (AKA Stealth), one of the developers of Sonic Mania, signed a manual and left it at a Target on the edge of Moreno Valley and Riverside, CA http://archive.vn/E74cQ The video quality is not that great so I decided to transcribe what he had written on it the best I can. So if you're curious here's what the manual says from the way I can see it: "Hello, Sonic fan! I'm sorry that Mania Plus is currently not available here. If you were lucky enough to find this first please take it as a consolation prize! Thank you for playing. Simon "Stealth" Thomley" Here's a Youtube version in case the tweet gets deleted: He left another at a Best Buy http://archive.vn/aIDB0 During E3 2018 a sign for Sonic Mania Plus was right near a hand sanitizing station so the Mania developers (which include Christian Whitehead, Simon Thomley, Brad Flick, Hunter Bridges, and Tom Fry) made a joke about it https://archive.vn/ZQPi4 This made them sign a manual with encouraging messages to sanitize http://archive.vn/lCd31 Here's the image itself: Well that's all the bonus stuff I could find I hope you enjoyed.

What if Sonic's version of Earth also featured a country based on the Soviet Union? (Ignoring the fact that it no longer exists) What would it be named? Would you like to see that as a level in a Sonic game? Or would references to communism get Sega eaten alive by controversy? Something tells me their flag would look like that of the USSR:

That’s still a far cry from the guy that openly tear gassed civilians to hold a bible for a photo op in front of a church that denounced him the next day. Nevermind the obvious fact of Trump extorting Ukraine to dig up dirt on the guy that beat him by holding their military aid hostage. If Obama did that shit in the open like that, he’d have been impeached in a heartbeat.

If there’s any Disney song that does a fantastic job at foreshadowing, it’s this one. “Hop from place to place” and Facilier’s brief bit about green, for instance.

Archie Sonic the Hedgehog - Issue #104: Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy, Part 2 Eggman is Galactus. The dream of a life-time hath come true. I can die happy now. Seriously though, they went all in on this non-canon elseworlds story. I’m actually not complaining. I appreciate the break from whatever was going on in the canon I’m supposed to care about. This issue started off fun but it ended up being very odd. The first story’s ending was fucking astonishing. This thing started off as a semi-serious post-apocalyptic tale and ended on a gag that still, also, had very horrible implications attached to it. I’m not sure why Rotor-27 cheering on the genocide of an entire species was seen as the proper reaction for a superhero to have. The second story isn’t even really worth discussing. These characters that I don’t care that much about got attacked by a monster and dragged into the ocean. Then the last one came across a dam and screamed out DAM when he saw it. I think I’m ready to continue the canonical story proper as it were. It was nice having a break with a different writer but this did do a lot to remind me that Gallagher has his own problems too... Archie Sonic the Hedgehog - Issue #105: You Say You Want A Revelation? What an icky cover. This style looks awful on Sonic and his posture and face makes it look like he’s doing something incredibly indecent in front of Hope rather than laying there unconscious. I also don’t like Sonic with flesh colored eyes. It’s always been creepy to me. Even in Adventure 2. Can’t say I enjoy looking at this one. It’s making my potato chips taste bad. HOT DAMN! That was a really good issue. I wasn’t expecting the return to the main series to be quite as good as that was but perhaps Bollers simply needed a bit of a break. The intense nature of that situation was well done on all fronts and Eggman was on point in both his expression of menace and his dialogue. The imagery of the Overlanders becoming robotic was used to haunting effect, even on Snively, and the resolution, while quick, felt reasonably so due to being intentionally bittersweet. I also like how the Downunda Freedom Fighters story was just a happy little tale. Easily ignorable and nothing that felt up it’s own ass like all of Ken Penders’ bullshit. These characters may not be the most interesting but it’s also worth noting that there’s nothing here to hate, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other characters in this book. So yeah. Another success to add to the pile. I enjoyed this one a lot, surprisingly. Archie Sonic the Hedgehog - Issue #106: Crouching Hedgehog, Hidden Dragon Kaido has invaded the comics… except not really. God, I wish though. This cover is… odd. It’s not… drawn badly, I don’t think. However, it’s very overly detailed and strangely set-up. This looks like it should be a connected cover… but I checked the next covers and it’s not. I really don’t get the idea behind this. There’s a Dragon’s Lair reference so… that’s good? This issue was fairly bog standard. There’s nothing about it that offends me on a visceral level. The kind nature of the Overlanders in Station Square continues to be a neat breath of fresh air. I do rather enjoy the President and how quickly he’s come into acceptance of Sonic and his character. It happened far quicker than it did with King Max, which is both hilarious and sad at the same time. The Penders story, while initially confusing, managed to steer clear of anything convoluted due to being mercifully short and painlessly easy to ignore. Next.

Which only makes me wonder how the people of Sonic's Earth would react to OUR Earth. (As well as fictional Earths based on it like Marvel/DC) Do you think the Sonic-verse USSR was also involved in the creation of Space Colony ARK?

    Sonic 30th predictions

The 2015 reference is possibly more to do with the year Aaron Webber rejoined SEGA and the subsequent transformation of Sonic's comparatively corporate social media presence into one of whimsical meme-ery and clue-dropping. I think this was hinting at his departure from that position. Having said that, I've always pondered if "This next chapter belongs to you" could refer to some kind of Sonic version of Mario Maker, with fan created levels.

It's quite possible that a USSR equivalent never existed on Sonic's earth; it's always been my (admittedly headcanon) thought that the difference between our Earth and Sonic's is the presence of the Chaos Emeralds and all the changes in history that their existence on Earth would create (the US being a Federation, the echidnas somewhat replacing the Aztecs, etc). Perhaps in Sonic's Earth's timeline, Rasputin managed to obtain all the Chaos Emeralds and destroy the Revolution....

    Sonic the Hedgehog Game Ideas

MAD RAT DEAD came out recently. It's a 2D-platformer rhythm game with awesome music. Basically Sonic + Necrodancer. Even got a homing spin attack. I think it'd be a great way to make a Sonic rhythm game. Somehow. Maybe make it different characters based on the stage & difficulty? For reference, Japanese trailer (English one sucks) under spoilers:

I like what one person said, “it use to be everyone in a village knew there was a village idiot, that the idiot could not be trusted, but now the village idiot has a polished social media, blog, and channels to lead people astray.”

TBF I've seen just about every bad thing people say about the Sonic Fandom firsthand, but it's par for the course with a fandom so big. The only stereotype that I have a problem with is the thing about Sonic fans never being satisfied and changing their minds on what they want, because its obviously different people who want totally different things, not one person contradicting themselves. Some people dont realize how divided the fandom is.
