  1. I wish someday the whole Sonic 3 music controversy gets explained and someone make a documentary about it, because it's such an interesting story. I know there are already a lot of documentaries about it on YouTube and some of them are really great, but we need the whole story from SEGA themselves and the Jackson's sound team in an official capacity.

Sonic Prime coming to Netflix in 2022

A Vancouver based artist named Nicholas Kole is doing art for the show. His other credits? Spyro Reignited and Crash Bandicoot 4. https://mobile.twitter.com/FromHappyRock/status/1369093637137600517 And another who has done concept art for Nintendo. This show might at least look amazing. https://mobile.twitter.com/Betty_Kwong/status/1369042408151810048

    Archie Sonic Main Discussion

Incidentally, the Original Freedom Fighters were popular enough among readers that editorial actually talked about bringing them back when Ian took over the book. It was intended to happen in The Darkest Storm but they couldn't find room for it. Afterwards it was determined that they were lost when the Zone of Silence became the Special Zone, but there were plans to revisit them. Readership liked several things that were or are today considered by many in the larger Sonic fandom as poor. A great example of that is Mobius 25 Years Later, which most Sonic fans derided but was actually rather popular among kids reading the book, which is why the two parter in 166 and 167 was made and why we eventually got the 30 Years Later story in SU 5-8. Ian confirmed that it was an editorial nightmare to get approved which is why we got no further stories after that, but kids seemed to dig it.

  6. Might interest everyone to know that the character designer for the Spyro Reignited trilogy was just hired on for Sonic Prime's character designs?

Character dynamics you want to see explored

I'd love to see the dynamic between Shadow and Amy explored. They're so similar (compassionate and determined to get what they want) yet so different (Amy is cheerful and bubbly while Shadow is blunt and likes to keep to himself for the most part), I feel like they'd get along really well. The only instance of them interacting that I can think of is SA2. I think they might have interacted a bit in the later Archie comics, but I haven't read them so I can't verify that.

How was knuckles born when chaos destroyed the echidna clan

It's a common misconception that Chaos wiped out the entire echidna race. The Japanese strategy guide for Sonic Adventure helps clear that up: There is no explanation as to what happened to the rest of the Knuckles clan, but considering echidnas lay eggs it's possible his species could have disappeared before he was even hatched. The Japanese manual for Sonic 3 says the animals on Angel Island are his friends and according to Sonic Runners are the ones who guard the Master Emerald for Knuckles when he's away. Maybe the animals of the island found his egg and are the ones who raised him?

Maybe this is why STC, for all its weirdness, felt a bit more balanced, since the A plot guy did serious stories but the B plot guy usually did light hearted ones. Even with Gallagher around, it felt like they increasingly tried to subdue any sort of cartoony wackiness until Flynn took over.

  16. Sounds like my mothers favourite Looney Tune ain't allowed in Space Jam 2. The reason is just as pathetic as ever. Is this a hot take? The cartoons never depicted Pepe Le Pew as a good guy and kids don't grow up to emulate cartoon skunks. Anyway, it doesn't matter to the character. She likes him partly due to Mel Blanks delivery. Nobody can replicate that. I'm not even mad. I just role my eyes.

What would you like to see in Sonic Prime?

So, I have a list of elements I would want to see (that I also thing the games could benefit from): A good balance of Humor and serious moments. I want dramatic tension, characters actions to have impact, interpersonal stuff. Make the characters feel like real 3D characters, not just 2d caricatures making the same kinds of jokes over and over. Bring back fan favourite characters who have been long since neglected, and give some screen time to characters who aren't Sonic, Amy, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow. But make it meaningful, don't just cameo an old character just to have a cameo, or shoehorn in an otherwise pointless scene just so Silver can be in the show. Utilize powerups and transformations as a way of upping stakes, without making them feel too overpowered or easy to abuse. The biggest problem other Sonic shows had was that Sonic could always just go grab a power ring and plow right through whatever thing he was fighting. Sonic X was the worst for that in the first season, knowing the hero is always going to win is already boring and cliché enough, they don't need to also always win the exact same way. Inversely, I don't think the cartoons ever really utilized super forms enough. I'd like to see Super Sonic make a few appearances, and maybe also show off some other transformations, both on Sonic and on other characters. Let someone else be the hero every few episodes. One of the strengths of the Adventure era imo was the diverse roster of characters who could all do their own things, and were all able to contribute in their own ways and succeed by themselves or as a team. Modern Sonic seems to have forgotten that and just has everyone else serve to assist Sonic in being the ONE and ONLY hero, which kinda sucks imo. I think having enemies that Sonic's speed can't combat, but Knuckle's strength, or Silver's telekinesis, or Tails' intellect can is a good thing, Sonic should have weaknesses, and the others should get to show off their own strengths. Story Arcs. As fun as stand alone, non-linear episodes can be, I feel like story telling in general is better and more impactful to the audience when there are stakes, when events have long-term implications, and when we have time to get to know both our heroes and our villians, and that ultimately requires a level of serialisation. I'd much rather have a 3-6 episode arc building up to a villian, showing us why we should fear this villian, why they are a threat, why we should hate them, or sympathise for them, how the heroes are going to take them down, and then the aftermath of the fight; than just get a single episode dropping a random villian of the week and showing 5 minutes of them doing a thing then Sonic kicking their butt, then back to the status quo. Ultimately these are all just my opinions, and I'll probably enjoy whatever we get either way.

Gallagher is actually the one with the longest tenure alongside Ian. Gallagher was with the comic from the very first miniseries right up to #185, outlasting Penders, Bollers, "Romy Chacon", and several others. Granted, some of his stories was likely holdovers from a long time ago, but we can place him having worked at least around the #160s or so, where he did a Archives story about a island of lost badniks. It's sequel story is the final one in #185.

How was knuckles born when chaos destroyed the echidna clan

I am bot particularly fond of the idea that Chaos wiped out much of the Echidna clans. I prefer the Archie Knuckles Comics where there are many of Echidnas. Now is Enerjak tried to wipe out the Echidna clans to achieve supremacy, that makes more sense.

    The Animation of Sonic Games

So, several years in the making, New Frame Plus recently released this behemoth of a video: It's a really excellent analysis and I heartily recommend giving it a watch (though understandably, maybe pair it up with a chore or watch it piecemeal if you aren't passionate enough about the subject to just sit down and watch a nearly 2 hour video). The author is a professional animator, and has a pretty level-headed opinion in that he is not much of a fan of the franchise but is very fair towards it and its challenges (both in terms of what Sonic's character design poses in terms of animation challenge and... literally the development challenges of doomed projects like 2006 and Boom). (For those whom it matters to, he's a fairly calm narrator too, there's plenty of little jokes here and there but no obnoxious youtuber stuff like constant live-action comedy sketches interrupting the video etc). I find myself agreeing with a lot of his thoughts, as well as what he considers the high points and low points for animation in the series. The general conclusion he comes to by the end is that he'd like to see Sonic animated, especially in 3D, as more of a cartoon character than he is currently. He also observes that Sonic characters PROBABLY need a redesign to some degree to become easier to animate. At this point, we've had the modern Sonic design long enough that I'm ready for a fresh look, but if they do keep it the same - which is fine, I still like it - they need to appreciate that his modern look stemmed from a 3D approximation of 2D artwork... so you better put the budget, time, effort and trickery involved into making him animate like a 2D character as well, with all the squashy, stretchy, cheaty tricks and techniques that entails. While I'd love a bit of discussion on this video and its observations - whether you agree or disagree with them - it isn't mandatory, so feel free to also use this topic to highlight the animation styles for Sonic you think work best or worst over the years, or animation styles you've seen elsewhere that you'd love to see the franchise take a crack at - either in this world with all of Sonic Team's limitations, or a perfect one where money and time is no object.

So which games take place on which "Earth"?

I honestly have no reason to believe that Sega actually buy into the two world nonsense, and was just an answer that Iizuka came up with when someone asked him why are there humans around. It really does feel like one of those answers you throw out when you don't actually have an explanation.
