I still don't understand what makes him think this is legal but I'm going to laugh if it turns out the "remastering" process was blacking out Sega characters or something.

So, with the impending closure of the PlayStation Store on PS3, and PS Vita in a few months, it also means that while most of these games will still be available in some form on different platforms (mostly Xbox/Steam), there's actually a few that will be much more difficult to get, especially now with game prices skyrocketing for both PS3 and Vita. The PS3 store will be going offline on the 2nd July 2021, and with it - every Sonic game digitally available for the PlayStation 3 will be delisted permanently, including DLC. The Vita store will be going offline on the 27th August 2021, and again - with it every Sonic game available digitally, including PSP titles. While both stores will be closing, it is confirmed you'll still be able to access and redownload your bought games from your download list, so it may be worth picking up anything Sonic wise on these platforms that you didn't already do so. With that said, I thought it would be a good idea to give a comprehensive list of what games (and additional downloadable content) are available where and how, for those still looking to pick up Sonic stuff before the storefronts are gone for good. Some of the US prices shown here may be slightly off, due to being estimations mainly for the DLC, as prices differ between PS3 and Xbox 360, so it's a little bit give or take with those. There are also regional differences to consider, so some games listed here as unavailable may be available in your region, so it might be worth checking the PS Store anyways. PS3: Game - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) - Unavailable Digitally DLC - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) - Very Hard Mode (Sonic, Silver, Shadow) - As the name implies, these are altered stages for the three playable characters with additional enemies and hazards included - $2.49/£2.49 each DLC - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) - Boss Attack Mode (Sonic, Silver, Shadow) - A mission pack where Sonic, Shadow and Silver fight each boss from their retrospective campaign one after another - $2.49/£2.49 each DLC - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) - Team Attack Amigo - A mission pack with redesigned levels focusing on the amigo characters from each character's campaign (IE - Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Omega, Blaze) - $2.49/£2.49. Game - Sonic Unleashed (2008) - $14.99/£12.99 DLC - Sonic Unleashed - Mazuri Adventure Pack - A level pack that gives four daytime stages and two night stages set in Mazuri - $2.49/£2.49 DLC - Sonic Unleashed - Spagonia Adventure Pack - A level pack that adds four daytime stages, along with two night stages to Spagonia - $4.99/£3.99 DLC - Sonic Unleashed - Empire City + Adabat Adventure Pack - A level pack that adds five day stages and four night stages spread between both Empire City, and Adabat - $2.49/£2.49 DLC - Sonic Unleashed - Apotos + Shamar Adventure Pack - A level pack that adds five day stages and four night stages, spread between Apotos and Shamar - $2.49/£2.49 DLC - Sonic Unleashed - Chun-Nan Adventure Pack - A level pack that adds four day stages and two night stages to Chun-Nan - $3.99/£3.29 DLC - Sonic Unleashed - Holoska Adventure Pack - A level pack that adds four day stages and two night stages to Holoska - $2.49/£2.49 Game - Sonic Adventure (HD Remaster) - DIGITAL ONLY - $3.99/£3.69 DLC - Sonic Adventure - DX Upgrade - It adds the additional content from the Gamecube version of Sonic Adventure DX to the remaster, adding the game's mission mode, among other features - $2.49/£1.69 Game - Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing - Unavailable Digitally DLC - Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing - Ryo Hazuki/Forklift Truck - It adds Ryo from the Shenmue series, along with his forklift truck as a selectable racer into the game - £3.99/$4.99 DLC - Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing - Metal Sonic & Death Egg Zone - It adds Metal Sonic as a racer to the game, along with the Death Egg Zone as a racetrack - £4.99/$5.99 Game - Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 - DIGITAL ONLY - $6.99/£6.49 Game - Sonic the Hedgehog (Vintage Collection) - DIGITAL ONLY - $3.99/£3.69 Game - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Vintage Collection) - DIGITAL ONLY - $3.99/£3.69 Game - Sonic Generations - $19.99/£12.99 DLC - Sonic Generations - Casino Night Zone - Hardly worth bringing up as it's essentially impossible to get on consoles now, as the codes will have long since expired - Casino Night Zone was a recreation of the pinball mini-game found in Sonic 2 and beyond in Generations' style, and it was available for buying the collector's edition of the game, or pre-ordering it at certain retailers in the US. Game - Sonic CD (Whitehead Remaster) - DIGITAL ONLY - $4.99/£3.69 Game - Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 - DIGITAL ONLY - $9.99/£9.99 DLC - Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 - Episode Metal - A unique DLC, instead of simply buying it, it's instead a 'bonus' for buying both Sonic 4 Episode 1 and Episode 2. That said, if you don't get them both before the store closure date, it'll be gone forever. You play as Metal Sonic going through the four zones from Episode 1. Game - Sonic Adventure 2 HD Remaster - DIGITAL ONLY - $7.49/£6.49 DLC: Sonic Adventure 2 - Battle DLC - A DLC pack that adds the additional content from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle to the game, including the additional multiplayer features - $2.99/£1.99 Game: Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed - $19.99/£11.99 DLC - Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed - Metal Sonic + Outrun Pack - A DLC pack that adds both Metal Sonic as a playable character, along with an Outrun race track - $2.99/£1.99 Game: Sonic the Fighters - DIGITAL ONLY - $4.99/£3.69 PS3 Games Available Only in Certain Regions: Game: Sonic Heroes (PS2 Classic) - Europe/Japan - £7.99/1,200 Yen Game: Shadow the Hedgehog (PS2 Classic) - 1,200 Yen PS Vita: Game: Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed - $19.99/£11.99 - Notable for being the full console version ported to a handheld console, and plays well at that. DLC: Metal Sonic + Outrun Pack - Same deal as the PS3 edition, although it also came bundled with limited editions of the game on Vita - $2.99/£1.99 PSP Games (Playable on both PSP and PS Vita): Game: Sonic Rivals - $6.99/£6.49 (Possibly already delisted on UK Store) Game: Sonic Rivals 2 - $6.99/£6.49 (Possibly already delisted on UK Store) With that, that's all of the Sonic related content that's currently available on the PlayStation 3 and Vita stores, apart from minor stuff (Sonic's Little Big Planet DLC costume packs, SEGA Mega Drive Collection (PSP), which can't be confirmed to be currently available). Once the stores go, all of these games and DLC go along with it, with games like Heroes, Shadow, and both Rivals games especially notable among these as these versions of the games aren't available readily elsewhere, so be sure if there's anything here you're interested in getting, you get them before the stores go. Edit: Forgot to add Sonic the Fighters to the PS3 list.

I myself have been banking on him hastily editing the SEGA characters into just-altered-enough expies in order to justify what he's doing. Given what we've seen of Penders coloring/inking/shading in general, I get the feeling that THIS is good idea of what we're in for if this ever does see the light of day-

I don't think they would unless it cost too much. But we do know Paramount is at least giving Pat and Casey a lot of freedom so hopefully they're prioritizing plot over bloat. Just a simple action movie plot with minimal exposition please.

Sonic 2 is the first movie I'm really following for behind the scenes footage. It's actually really fun to see all this set construction and shooting. Granted, we probably only see this much because people actually care this time.

Sally Acorn is the daughter and heiress of the wealthy business tycoon, Nigel Acorn, the CEO of conglomerate Acorn, Inc. which is responsible for ground-breaking technology and infrastructure projects around the world. Treated as daddy’s “little princess,” she was given the best education and self-defense training money could buy under the tutelage of her caretaker Rosemary, and has since been fascinated by the world at large in which her father operates. Thanks to her pocket supercomputer AI Nicole, Sally has taken interest in the field of Big Data, which she she believes will change the world by giving many, even the poorest people, the same level of education she benefited from growing up. One day, her father was taken captive by Dr. Eggman, who sought to use the resources of Acorn, Inc. to further his goal of world domination. Upon meeting Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends from the Restoration, she befriends the timid yet passionate Antoine, the boisterous Bunnie Rabbot, and the inventive Rotor as they set out to find her father, retake the conglomerate, and aid the Restoration in putting the world back together. — See that? All I did was take out the monarchy and replace it with a business company, with a nod of Sally being treated like a Princess. Guys, it is not hard to reimagine these characters in a new roles and still keeping them recognizable. And this is one of several different takes I made up on the fly. I had another one where Nigel Acorn was the Sonic equivalent of Metal Gear’s Big Boss as the head of an Anti-Eggman Mercenary force like the Diamond Cutters (with him being the one who trained them), with Sally being trained to take over after him. This level of creativity is not hard.

I've picked up the switch versions of the first 3 Dragon Quests and holy hell is the leap in quality between 1 and 2 massive. It's like if Sega made Sonic Unleashed immediately after making Sonic Forces. Same game but a million, billion, trillion times better in every way.

A fair point, but consider how much higher a profile (and budget!) Balan must have versus your average shovelware. Squandering those arguably makes it a far bigger flop than your average bad game; or at the very least, it makes it natural that it should receive so much more negative attention.

As a huge fan of the Freedom Fighters, no. I feel that if they were thrown into the IDW comics, they wouldn't be the Freedom Fighters anymore. They work great with the universe they're in, but outside that, I can't see it working. But if those recent "leaks" that have been floating around are real (which, I don't believe they are), then I suppose it could be interesting to see how they're handled. The Sally design does sound cute.

I don't trust any leak by default, and I'm just waiting to see something instead of feeling like I know what's coming. But I have to correct, Zippo's leaks never said that an Adventure remake was coming this year. That new games returning to the style of Adventure may be coming, whether or not it's true, but not outright a remake. The only time the remakes were ever mentioned, was the mention that they were cancelled in 2015 in a later blog post. Can't quite stand to see misinformation thrown about, even if the leaks may be completely false, so here's the original source of the leak.

Both are good points, again, I'm not saying the game isn't crap, cause it is. I'm against numerical scores cause I think they're dumb, but if I had to give one myself would probably be a 3/10, which aligns with Metacritic, that said, whilst the end product is undeniably, outright bad, and inexcusable for the asking price, is it really worse than Deadly Premonition 2, Croc's World and the likes (either games greated with the sole aim of "stealing" money out of people who may not be accostumed with the gaming environment and can't discern shovelware from actual products, or games that just do not work well and have little to no effort put into it, Deadly Premonition 2 in this case, or really the entirety of the GAAS industry, see the most recent case with Outriders). I guess what I'm trying to say is that... scores should be more nuanced, just as the products themselves are more nuanced than either good, bad or mediocre. It may just be me but I consider cynical-excuses-to-use-gambling-as-a-hook-to-make-endless-money-out-of-vulnerable-people made purposefully unfun to support their exploitative ingame economy labelled as "games", to be way more offensive than a little passion project like Balan that was clearly overpriced by the publisher, although it clearly did not work out. Balan bad, yeah, but also sad to see it be like that.

In fairness, I feel like it's more SEGA and Archie's fault than the writers'. The issues solicited for after Genesis of a Hero seemed to be wrap-up and epilogue stuff where the Freedom Fighters would've went their separate ways following the crisis. Then SEGA mandated Genesis of a Hero to happen as a tie-in to the 25th anniversary, and then they canned the whole thing midway through that mandated arc. And then there's Worlds Unite, which just fucked over literally every series involved in it. Archie Sonic lost issues to it which killed pacing, Mega Man and Boom lost a ton of issues right before cancellation.

They cut out Tails from the first movie because they wanted to have a more focused plot. They did a lot of decisions during the shooting of the first movie to keep things focused on the interaction between Sonic and Tom such as shortening the intro sequences and such. So I think they have a good grasp on pacing. Most of what they hyped up in their interview was action scenes rather than character drama, so I think they have their priorities very straight. I think their idea of utilizing character is to have them participate in some action scene which is why I think they won't have major characters outside of Tails and Knuckles introduced. The more time trying to keep characters relevant with exposition will mean less time for action scenes and the actually entertaining bits.

Considering that the game was being charged for a full on $60.00, it definitely earned some ire. You come at us with a AAA price, then you better deliver something good. The higher you charge versus how bad a game turns out to be, can be quite influential of its rating. Balan Wonderworld got exactly what it deserved.

Reggie Graham who work on the Sonic IDW comics managed to have a look at the filming set in Fort Langley.: Also, interestingly, the Mean Bean reference is going to be used. This remind me of the time that Van who used to work on the movie did actually write an scene which included the Mean Bean reference for the movie. However, that got scrapped sadly.

How can you remaster something that hasn't even been completed yet? Seriously Ken, put your product out first before you even talk about George Lucas-esque "special editions"...but at the rate we're going, that's not going to happen.

When will companies learn how bad delisting demos make them look? More often than not, it comes off as admission of a game's poor quality and a cowardly method of pulling the wool over consuners' eyes.

This week's character is Big! Like with Rouge, I don't have much to say about him. I gave him a more Incineroar-like build as well as paws instead of those awful sock feet Sega insists on giving Sonic characters. I picture him being what TV Tropes calls a "Boisterous Bruiser".

For myself here's what my ideal 3d Sonic game: Adventure style gameplay with multiple play styles this being Sonic Tails and Knuckles. A story that is cohesive and plot details that actually gets explained, for example Lost World didn't explain the lost hex despite Tails knowing about it, and in Forces how did Omega come back when Tails couldn't repair him? An additional point that might be a weird concern is that they shouldn't rely on the IDW comics to fill in gaps in the story and that the story itself should be in the game, Balan wonderworld is a prime example of what in referring to where to story is locked behind a paywall outside of the game via a book. Have an actual skill ceiling that respects long term players time and abilities, this is the one thing they need to improve on the most since over the last decade Sonic Team have done nothing but cater to casuals and non-fans while in the same time giving long term fans nothing but shot and shallow experiences.

    Sonic 30th predictions

I'm confused why everyone assumes on default that Sonic Team themselves would be working on the remaster and it would be their main project. Pretty sure remasters and remakes are delegated to smaller teams, with main Sonic Team just supporting from a distance. I mean, I don't know if that's true or not, but that would be my first assumption. Tough if it's true and they spend 4 years working non stop on only a Sonic Colors remastered.... Then I expect some insane HUGE improvements. Cause then they would have spent the longest solo development time any Sonic game ever had for a mere remaster, of a game that wasn't that big to begin with. That would only make sense if we're getting a Spyro Reignited kind of full blown 3 games in one package. Unless current Sonic Team is in a really pathetic state. Oh, and Covid throwing a wrench in the gears probably. Sigh, Not looking forward to all the Reviews for Sonic Colors Remaster. I'm so going to bash my face in irritation everytime Sonic Colors is referred to as a 3d game. Sonic Colors is as much a 3d platformer as Grand theft auto 5 is a bowling simulator.
