Those same delays would make any narrative overstay its welcome. We shouldn't be factoring manufacturing issues into our perception of pacing, thats something that is beyond the control of any of the writing staff.

It's kind of annoying that none of the leaks addressed Sonic's general gameplay style itself. Are we back with boost ? Maybe the fact that they mentioned boost levels specifically for the cyberspace stages implies the open world has another gameplay style. I just hope traversal is fun and rewarding. It's the most important aspect.

I find it sad that most people only think some sonic stories are good by "Sonic's standards". I'm one to believe that most sonic storylines have interesting plots that make going through the to see the plot unfold more worth watching, as well as having some pretty good jokes that don't overstay their welcome, unlike the meta era. hell some sonic stories have pretty good themes in certain cutscenes.

    Sonic 30th predictions

Sorry to bring up some really old posts, but: This is not strictly true. I can confirm that Zippo did send, to one or two of our news writers, some images that he said was evidence of his past claims. While he did do this, there are some important notes to mention here: None of the evidence or claims made by Zippo to those staff members were sent up the chain of command (me) for full verification As a result, none of the evidence Zippo sent to us was ever verified Of those pieces of evidence, many items had information redacted (or aliases for sources used) that would have made verifying the claims impossible without further information (which is on Zippo to provide to us, not on us to ask from him) None of those staff members responded or confirmed to Zippo that his evidence was verified by us (in writing and with my authorisation) So, to be fully clear and transparent: Zippo's claim that he sent 'receipts' to Sonic Stadium staff is accurate Zippo's claim that his information is therefore verified is false. I have looked through the evidence as submitted myself and can say that these claims are still not verified, even retroactively. I can confirm, for the avoidance of doubt, that Zippo has not had any of his information verified by any member of Sonic Stadium staff - news, forums or otherwise - and his claims should be treated like any other piece of rumour or speculation. For future reference to 'insiders'... the "people who need to be aware of [any] information's validity" on this site is me. The "appropriate people" is me. I was not aware or approached about any of this by Zippo. If you want to be taken seriously in the future, make sure you understand the correct protocol and await direct written confirmation before claiming your information is verified in a public space. Pretending that we've endorsed your claims and using that as a means to add legitimacy to your claims only succeeds in pissing me off. To everyone else... please do not trust any 'insider' who claims they have had their information verified by TSS/SSMB staff, unless a staff member explicitly confirms it in the relevant topic. If a 'verification' claim like this is ever made again and there is uncertainty, members are welcome to tag or PM myself or other staff members to request confirmation.

This thread is made to share ideas for any gameplay mechanics, moves, level design features, items such as shields and loop like structures in Sonic games. Feel free to share your ideas here. With that said, I will start this off. For Loop Like Structures: I call this first one the Outward Loop. It starts with Sonic or another character running through a loop two times. One is done normally, while the second time around, the character runs on a protruding part that goes through the loop in either direction, past it, and onto another path that is outside the loop the character was on. So the Sonic time around has Sonic run on a second loop towards the screen and onto a different path. This second one I call the Diagonal Loop. It is a loop that is tilted diagonally, and the character runs onto it like on a ramp leading to a wall. The loop usually has a twist at the end that makes the character right side up before continuing onto a main path. This third one is called a Spike Loop. It basically has a character run across a loop, with a 2D or 3D spike at the top the character runs around or up and down before completing the rest of the loop. For Gameplay mechanics: For the first idea, You know how you accelerate to top speed with the boost by a press of a button? Well, this idea makes it so that you don't need to hold down the boost button to maintain momentum. Just press the boost button, let go, keep holding forward and you'll still have momentum and speed as you go along. This allows for running through loops and on walls or down hills (provided they aren't scripted), all without the boost. It would also be possible to gather and maintain momentum without the boost altogether, but should you press the boost button, you don't need to constantly hold it down to keep your momentum, thus you can do momentum based stuff like in the classics without constant boost. You might go faster without the boost even if you are skilled and able to maintain momentum while avoiding obstacles. You obviously don't get the invincibility with the boost, by the way. For the second idea, with the boost, Sonic would accelerate to a high speed. Not a maximum speed, but high enough. Sonic would accelerate instantly when using the boost, and he'd maintain the same speed as long as he is boosting. He could also reach that high speed by hitting a dash pad. However, for running to build up speed, and rolling, and perhaps spin dashing, that is a different story. The following applies to building speed or even rolling, especially down hills in the case of the rolling. When Sonic builds up speed, the player will notice accelerating effects seen as Sonic runs forward through the level. This acceleration would not be noticed when the boost is used. When Sonic reaches max speed, he can run as fast as he can in boost mode. But when running or rolling down ramps and hills, either way, Sonic would accelerate quickly as he runs down them, like how the rolling worked in the classic games. Sonic will not only accelerate faster, but when he is going down those ramps and hills, he can even speed up to a speed faster than the speed Sonic goes while boosting! For move ideas: Homing Bounce: This is done with a Homing Attack on other enemies. When Sonic is about to hit an enemy, the player must press the double jump button when Sonic hits the enemy and he will bounce off the enemy at a great height. This is useful for getting to higher places, or to a higher set of flying enemies higher above that a normal Homing Attack would not allow Sonic to reach. There is also the Cling Dash. It works just like the Drop Dash in the upcoming Sonic Mania. The player even charges in mid air. However, this works on walls, so like when the Drop Dash has Sonic speeding off when he hits the ground, Sonic goes up a wall or down one depending on which direction he is currently going during the trajectory of his jump. It could be used to get to high places o get to lower places easier. For Items: Power Boost: Used in the form of a power up that can be found in levels, this move allows Sonic to use a more powerful boost. This can be shifted on and off to be used anytime throughout the level, though the Boost gauge must be full to use this. When used, a powerful explosion is emitted from Sonic as he boosts, and many things happen. Enemies on screen get destroyed, obstacles are destroyed (including those Sonic cannot destroy on his own), stage gimmicks get interacted with (like bridges getting knocked over or objects falling from above), etc, and Sonic's boost becomes more powerful as long as it is used. Once the player stops using it, though, the effect will end. This is kind of like the Bomb power up that destroys on screen enemies in the Adventure games. Frictionless Shield, which allows Sonic to continually gain speed without friction and air resistance giving him a top speed. Sonic can potentially reach high, or even endless amounts of speeds, though it does make him harder to control as he gains speed. I hope this topic was okay to make. Anyway, if it was, feel free to share your ideas for anything if you wish to do so!

Me personally I'm very hopeful for Sonic Rangers. The leaks should only be taken with a pinch of salt all be it I know a lot of them actually hold a lot of potential truth with when they actually leaked and how those leaks align with the trailers release. But the hype shouldn't be squashed with the controversal elements that the Leaks raise, its fun to speculate and fun to analyse, I don't think we should shoot down the games potential just because of past games. For one I never understand this Meta-era complaining, or why its even called the Meta-era. I think since Colours and Rogers introduction, Sonic and the cast of other characters have been the most consistant they've ever really been, they all have clear identitys, even the different iterations over the last decade i.e Sonic Boom and Movie Sonic, I think have been consistant. People complain about Forces and I really understand the problems with it (I too have issues myself) But unlike other games in the series its at least polished and a high quality product, irrespective of what peoples opinions on the games contents are. Thats really what I'm thankful for over the last 10 years and why personally I think the last decade has been a lot better in terms of polish and variety, Sure Sonic Boom on Wii U was a glitchy mess but take that out of the equation and I personally can't think of any other Sonic software since colours that was bad by quality. Sonic Lost world for example, I never quite got to grips with the new moveset but it was a polished game of high quality. The likes of kids playing forces, lost world etc are the kids that will potentially be on this forum in a few years time singing these games praises as the games that got them in to the series. I remember when unleashed first came out and it was heavily controversial, now people and fans who grew up with it praise it as one of the best in the series (I grew up with the classics but love unleashed myself). I'm happy for the series to go to new places and try new things, simply cause I know even If I don't appreciate it, there will be a fan or a new fan somewhere who will!

It took me forever to do so but I finally got off my butt and decided to do some drawing. This only took me a few hours to do and I was inspired to do it because someone made a random joke about Charmy being a Shounen Maid. So I drew it. Instantly. Keep in mind this is a picture drawn by a guy who considers himself a suave 22-year-old black man.

I was really hoping we’d get Switch ports of Adventure 1 and 2. I have a feeling Sega perceives that their brand would be damaged by a new wave of harsh reviews. I dunno. I just see myself finally getting the Chao emblems if I could pick up and play a little SA2 before bed every night. Shame.

Sonic Team have done this for the past 10 years and most of the time it's too simplistic to the point where nothing is ever explained. For example In Sonic Lost World Tails knows about the lost hex and he never explains what it is and ultimately knows more than the player before and after the game it's bad story telling if the characters know more about important details that are in the game than you do Also In Lost World Eggman capturing the Zeti's off screen, just comes out of no where, which leads the player to ask when did this happen. In Sonic Forces the whole idea of Omega being damaged, Tails unable to repair him, but comes back at the final hour of the game with no explanation. I'll give an example outside of Sonic in Final Fantasy XV. At the mid point of the game, Ignis one of your party members of the game get blinded during a time where your group gets separated, imagine if Final Fantasy XV release without any of the DLC planned that would have explained what happened ignis, that is the exact same problem Sonic games have with their stories currently. I'm going to share my experience with Sonic Adventure when I first played it, I didn't really understand the backstory of the Echidna tribe, Tikal, the Chao , and Chaos. It wasn't until when I got older and replayed it that I fully understand the Echidna tribe wanted the conquer land, Tikal wanted the war to stop, and why the Chao were important to chaos because he was a mutated chao himself. Kids might not pick up story details the first time but what separates great storytelling like the Adventure games to bad storytelling like the whole of the 2010's is how chances are people will go back to the games they played as a child and appreciate the details put into the stories that they didn't pay attention to.

Well, back then, you could definitely get away with it more. But 3D platformers do not work well with that mentality. Regardless of how he -used- to be, he has made it very clear -how he is- now. Every single game he's been involved with in the last decade has been overly simplistic, and the worst of the bunch was Let's Tap. Ivy the Kiwi was basically Kirby's Canvas Curse. Other than that, he's worked on minigames like Streetpass stuff. But I don't want to sound like I'm calling him a hack or anything; -everyone-, no matter how creative, eventually runs out of steam.

    Archie Sonic Main Discussion

Archie Sonic the Hedgehog - Issue #175: Eggman Empire Here we are folks. Another big one. THIS issue might actually be one of the best issues in the entire series in my opinion. The story as a whole suffers from coming and going way too quickly in order for me to bask in the afterglow of what happens, unfortunately. It also doesn’t help that I’m the type that prefers longer story arcs from the get-go. Despite that, it can’t be understated how big of an impact this issue had on it’s own. This cover alone does well to sell you on it too. Great choice to just have Eggman standing in the darkness with the light illuminating only what he’s done. Beautiful. There you have it. One of the best issues in all of Archie Sonic was about Eggman completely flexing on Sonic. It’s a very special occasion and the book knows it. It’s not something you’d see too much of in any Sonic story out there, let alone portrayed as harshly and as violently as this was. I’m forever grateful I got that chance to feel something similar again with the Zombot stuff and I look forward to more wallowing in misery before the eventual, satisfactory turn around that leads to the happy ending. It’s just a shame that after this point, the atmosphere built up by this issue dissipates far too quickly for the sake of pleasing the Sonic Team Gods. Who can say though? Their whims change from day to day. Maybe they’d be okay with a story that allowed Sonic to stay beaten for just a little bit longer. You could argue the Metal Virus arc was kind of like that. I’d wish I had a comprehensive list of what Sonic Team is thinking if I weren’t certain that list would be outdated the next day. They’re so weird. Archie Sonic the Hedgehog - Issue #176: Cracking the Empire This is a really good cover. Goddamn. Look at that fire burn. It’s funny that it took me until just now to realize that Sonic wasn’t holding a random red scarf. He was holding the Acorn flag. For some reason, whenever I glance at this cover I gloss over the fine details with my shitty eyes. As such, the image of the acorn on green blends in with the grass a little and looks like a hole in the red cloth showing off some grass and a weirdly shaped rock. You can kind of see it if you squint a bit. Either way, I’m excited to get into this one. I remember the first part being neat drama stuff but I recall very little of where certain events take place. I’m thinking this entire issue might be the immediate resolution and the next one is some aftermath stuff and some cleanup involving the Sonic-Proof robot but… gosh, I hope not. So that was the second part of this story. It’s definitely not as good as the milestone issue that was 175 but it had a lot of that drama I wanted at the start as well as Eggman being a delightful ham. It goes downhill the instant he does the infamous thing to Charmy though. There were a few amusing things that took place from that point on but it wasn’t enough to salvage the disappointment I felt from the instant reversal that happened concerning the state of their home and what will end up being the fallout from Charmy’s little scuffle with the Egg Grapes. This in-between issue suffers from me anticipating what the true ending to the conflict is going to be and hoping that what happened in #175 wasn’t entirely worthless. Fingers crossed I’ll feel better about this at the end of #177. Archie Sonic the Hedgehog - Issue #177: Home, New Home Here we are. This is the final issue of this particular story and it’s got a fairly normal and simple cover. It’s easily the weakest cover of this set which is appropriate since I remember this being the weakest issue of this set. I can hardly wait to see if my mind has changed after all these years though. Let’s do it. You know what’s interesting about this? I think this issue works a lot better in hindsight than it does reading it for the first time. Back when I originally read this story, it was read in a row and on the same day. One second, everything was destroyed and Sonic was beaten, the next, everything was fixed and Eggman was beaten. Despite that, this issue was actually really good as an aftermath story to a tale that I personally felt could have gotten so much more out of being longer. It establishes a lot about what’s going to be the new status quo for certain characters going forward (good and bad) while also setting up future story arcs that are about to happen (good and bad). It’s really well done for what it is and I can’t deny that. I think my disappointment at seeing the devastation that was wrought in #175 be so quickly reversed has indeed chilled out just a tiny bit. However, I still find myself not loving it. Especially knowing what happens in Issue #200 and how easy the resolution there is too. It just feels like what happened in #175 would have been better served as a backdrop for the upcoming arcs (Enerjak Reborn, House of Cards, etc.) that helped lead up to a retaliation against Eggman in issue #200. Reversing what Eggman did right here kind of robbed me of the catharsis I think I would have felt once Sonic and others fought their way to Eggman and beat him there. I recall being really disappointed by how that all went down… However, I am merely drawing from memory and that can be a dangerous practice. Perhaps I’ll feel differently about #200 once I get there again. After all, these last two issues actually weren’t as bad or as disappointing as I remember them being. Despite still wishing what happened in #175 could have carried over into the upcoming story arcs (imagine House of Cards happening amongst the wreckage of Knothole and how much more powerful Amadeus’ feud with the standing of the kingdom would have felt there) I do feel like I can try and make peace with it. I know this only happened because Ian Flynn promised SEGA that Eggman’s win would be immediately reversed. It sucks but that’s the nature of the beast. There’s still a lot of awesome conflicts ahead and this was by no means BAD so I’ll keep my chin up and look forward to revisiting what’s next. … Oh shit. House of Cards is next… ...Welp. It’s been a good run everyone. Bye forever. *Jumps off a cliff*

I always saw the ranking system as well as collectible hunting as fine enough incentives for more difficult design because they rely on more out of the way techniques in the hands of players. I find SA2 to be a pretty easy game to just complete, barring a few levels, but going out of the way for the extra missions shows the level of depth in design that a casual would never approach. This became a bit of a problem to me when we got to games like Generations and Colors when these optional objectives became trivial barring a few instances. There's a balance to be had between nail-biting difficulty and sneeze-and-you-win design.

I think if you unironically believe a man deliberately made a show to leave and came back to voice a cartoon hedgehog in order to spite you specifically, yeah, I think you just need to move on. I know my recent posts have been largely whinging about the Sonic fanbase being petulant bastards, but I genuinely do not understand any of these sentiments. The fanbase is nuts but I never thought that people wholly believe in conspiracies like this. When I heard Smith was leaving I thought "oh, that's a shame. Well, SEGA does this every often, I wonder what the new voice would be like." When he came back, I thought "oh, okay. That's fine." I really can't vibe with this "SEE???? SEGA HATES ME!!!!" Like damn. Sonic the Hedgehog is not that important. Roger Craig Smith is an amazing actor, by the way. He is "someone actually good." Better than Drummond and Griffith, to be perfectly honest. They got good, but Smith was already good. EDIT: As an aside, I see people saying things like "I hope Smith can handle a darker direction." He voiced Batman, Ezio, Captain America, Chris Redfield, but surely slightly serious Sonic the Hedgehog will be his greatest acting hurdle... Also, trying to use this case as "SEGA's shitty management" when we know literally nothing behind-the-scenes is silly. What more do you think there is than Smith simply re-auditioning for the role? Aaaaaanyhooooo, I predict remasters, collections, cartoon, comics, and a teaser for the new game.
