  • Sonic Advance Will Let Sonic Grind on Rails, Features Tails and Knuckles

It looks like Sonic's Game Boy Advance debut will not simply be a blast from the past. The blue blur will also be able to grind down rails, in a gameplay mechanic clearly borrowed from upcoming Dreamcast swansong Sonic Adventure 2.

Sonic the Hedgehog Advance was on show today at SEGA's E3 booth, according to IGN, via a Wide Boy AGB development system. The site reports that, "while [the game] is based on the classic side-scrolling design, it's a game all its own... the game is super-fast as it should be, and there are plenty of corkscrews and loops to make players [go] dizzy."

You'll also be able to play as Tails and Knuckles in the game, not just Sonic! Amy is also listed as a playable character, taking the roster so far to four. Multiplayer mini-games are supported for up to four players, using GBA link cables.

Sounds like there's a lot more to this than just a retro fix. SEGA revealed that Sonic Advance will be coming in November 2001. Check out some new screenshots below.
