  • Sonic Adventure 1 Coming to Gamecube, SA2 Battle & Sonic Advance Ship 1 Million

SEGA keeps coming out with the hits this month, and it's only the 2nd of July! The company has revealed that Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Sonic Advance have shipped over one million units. Because of the two games' success, a version of the original Sonic Adventure will now also be released for Gamecube.

According to the press release, on SEGA's Japanese website, the 1 million units milestone combines shipments of both Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on Gamecube and Sonic Advance on Game Boy Advance, to the three main gaming markets - Japan, North America and Europe.

SEGA considers this achievement a great success, stating that it is the result of "maximising the synergistic effects" of Nintendo's Gamecube and Game Boy Advance consoles. The statement makes special mention of the ability for Sonic Advance to connect to SA2 Battle using the Nintendo GC-GBA link cable, so it believes that this connectivity has been the source of these games' popularity.

In response to the news, not only did SEGA announce a sequel to Sonic Advance 2 and compilation game Sonic Mega Collection (which you can read about here), it also announced that a version of Sonic Adventure will be coming to Gamecube as well. The release date and pricing is currently undecided, but it specifically says 'Sonic Adventure 1' in the statement so we are sure it will be a port of the original Dreamcast game.
