  1. Is it true this game is being published by Sega in Japan? I think the same thing happened to the N'Sane trilogy on Switch, but that is odd considering the direct competition to one of their recently released games...
  2. I'm super hyped to throw down in the middle of... Blu Fog? C'mon man. The 3DS games put in the extra effort to render caves, grasslands and all that other junk. Why are the trainer battles in a gym reduced to... THAT. I'd be okay if it didn't take place in the main stadium (thats cool to reserve for the Gym Leader) but they can do sooooooo much better than blu void.
  3. WTF is up with the backgrounds for the trainer battles in the Water gym? Jesus, that lazy. Pokemon Stadium on the N64 put in more effort than that.
  4. What are you on about? The WiiU version of Rio had Volleyball and BMX, and the 3DS version included multiple swim styles, pole vaulting, trampoline, 1500m, hammer throw.... shoot pretty much every event I listed sans the long jump. They were all in Rio Most of the usual trash events I'd agree with. But I'll eat my fist if they were to leave out some of the longer, more involved sports like volleyball. Its one of the few games with a playtime long enough to consider online multiplayer viable - which is a selling point for this go around too. Fair enough, point taken... But just to nitpick, but you cant use the winter/summer split to bolster that argument. Kinda hard for Omega to be exclusive to the 100m dash when the winter olympics don't have one lol.
  5. Some of the previous games, including 3DS london, limited the characters you could use in each event. There was something like 4 or 5 choices for each, with only Sonic and Mario themselves capable of competing in everything. everyone complained about it.
  6. That screen is likely a placeholder though. Just by combing through the regular events, there are some notable omissions. Things like the 1500m Dash and Hammer throw (which would use the same controls as 100m dash / Discus throw) are no-brainer omissions. And then you can just run down the list of events that aren't here, but would likely make the cut to pad out the game counts. Trampoline, long jump, different swimming styles - heck the back catalog is loaded with events primed to make a return like pole vaulting. Also, if your going to recycle the same set of guests/bosses (like we all expect them too), then you almost have to bring back their associated events too. Volleyball and BMX are near locks. In the same light, I would expect the dream events to mirror the regular events that are included. I'd be shocked if they removed dream football - as they've done it before. And if your bring in a sport like Volleyball then you can bring back its dream event too.
  7. Does the home stuff really change that much? Sure its a bit foreboding for the future of the franchise. When Gen 9 rolls around we will get side-swipped by this same truck. But as far as sword and shield are concerned, they won't be affected nearly as much. Since Home isn't slated to launch until next year (I don't think they've even given a date beyond 2020). We could be looking at half or even a full year before Home launches and is even available to flood those games with fresh blood. Until home eventually launches, you wouldn't have access to your back catalogue of pokemon anyway. You'll be playing the game without access to any of your old favorites regardless. This is some legit bad news tho. Hopefully Pokemon Gun fixes everything. Guns are always the answer.
  8. That trailer actually looked like... honest effort?! At least for this series. We already knew they were going the extra mile on the characters clothing, but seeing that in action between the different events is very nice. The collection of events continues to expand, and this game will continue to grow. The archery character select screens show that they have done away with the last games least popular and most baffling decision. Things are trending up.
  9. Have you seen the crap Penders churns out? Of course it could have been worse. That being said, I did get a giggle out of the ribbed tracksuit being inspired by the Sega logo itself,. If your going to set out to make an abomination, might as well have fun with it lol.
  10. Devolving the series to 2D seems like a bit of a slap to the face of what the original fell short of. Its like they cringed at the reaction to the first game, and kind of retreated to their safe space. Even if this sequel is done well and is a good game, I feel like its gonna get bogged down by the weight of what it could... and arguably should have been. Think I'll pass on boarding the hype train for this one.
  11. What backfired exactly? Considering how the term still gets flung around today, I'd say it was a wildly successful marketing ploy.
  12. Too much of an early game advantage turns the game into easy mode, and we all know one of the biggest knocks against most pokemon games is the lack of a real difficulty curve. So I'm essentially encouraged to not pick the starter I want, because it would make the first few hours a walk in the park. Honestly, those first 15-20 levels are really the most "threatening" moments as far as getting pushed to the edge. The lack of a full team, the lack of coverage moves and TMs to rectify that and the constant desire to grind out a few more battles before retreating to a pokemon center... those first few hours are important. Without them, the game is just begging to be steam rolled until after the credits roll for beating the elite 4. I'd love a Hard Mode option for this one. But I say that about every pokemon game.
  13. Scorbunny is already shaping up to have a ridiculous early game advantage. They could at least try to make me consider one of the other two. Also... whats the appeal of the double pack here? If it follows the trends on the game before it, there really is no reason to buy both versions... a few trades for version exclusives is all it takes to even things out. Have they put out any reason to think this will be different?
  14. Other than that, a note on one of the new Pokemon
  15. You could also do a complete 180 and find someone who fits the bill by not constantly nipping at his heels. A character that appreciates his freedom lifestyle, while at the same time needing no more than the time in-between adventures to see each other if at all. A long distance relationship that is removed from the series narrative would fit in fine. You wouldn't need to address the "where is your girlfriend" take every time one of them appears, because its understood that they live apart. I mean we have two options here either way. You either find a character who can keep up with him... which frankly is no one. Or we find a character who lets him run. Sounds like a no brainier to me.
  16. Decorative Mods? That's actually kind of cute. Well, now they have the shell's for those units on standby. Might pave the way for a 32x/CD mini after the Genesis finishes its run. (no point to revealing or releasing that now)
  17. I would call Vanilla a civilian. Cream only dodges that distinction because she's playable. But yeah, Rush Adventure has quite large populous of fuzzies. Marine, the coconut crew and the Vikings all come to mind. The echidna clan in the SA1 flash backs inhabit the same world as the humans in the present day. Chronicles features the Nocturnous clan, and a few pirate Echidna's too and of course Boom is primarily populated with fuzzies. In SA1 and Chronicles, there are humans and mobians hanging around in the same game. (ignoring Eggman and Nega of course)
  18. *cough* Sonic Rush Adventure *cough* *hack* Sonic Advance 2 *hack* *wheeze* Sonic Chronicles *wheeze* *choke* Sonic Adventure *choke* *gasp* Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric *gasp*
  19. I've noticed that the AI power type teammates usually finish last on your team, so playing as them removes your teams "weakest link". The best trick to paying with AI teammates is to constantly request and trade items back and forth. Even if you don't need them, just playing hot potato gives you more team ult meter and increases the chances of getting those X3 items, which you can immediately spam the first two and pass the third to keep the momentum going. Everybody wins. Don't wait for the AI to offer an item, continuously demand them. Hammer that circle button like there is no tomorrow. Something else to keep in mind are the AI death pits. There are a handful of spots on many levels where AI racers will just always go careening off the track (there is a bend toward the end in Sky road where I swear every racer ritualistically suicides every lap). If you use your team ult in these areas, you might make it out unscathed, but your teammates will die, wasting theirs in the process. The swooping S Turns in Ice Mountain and Hidden Volcano are other examples of this. If you can't save your ults for the last push to the finish line, then make sure you use it in a place where it can best convenience your teammates and not just you. Its tempting to pop your ult when you enter a hazard gauntlet, but you have to account for your teammates too and popping theirs while still in the S turn behind you may not be your best bet and my not allow them to clear the same hazards you are attempting to pass. Better to rely on your skill to do the work, and give as many free passes to the AI as possible to better their placing.
  20. I'd like to see a Sonic R level. Tropical resort would be cool, but you'd probably have to find a way to nerf the tech characters from breaking that level... and while I would puke at any mention of Classic Sonic, I would love a second skin for Sonic Tails ect with their R character models. That would be fun.
  21. Amy happened - You could count her multiple times where she was included primarily as a love interest, Sonic CD, Sonic Heroes, if you really wanted to, you could easily stretch this to 4 or 5 of her appearances. Elise happened. That is another one. Tiara made it way past concept stage. and if you really want to get picky, Lah was made in house by SEGA and was a love interest for the Werehog. So there goes another one too. A bunch got scrapped during concept, but a bunch made it all the way through too. Its an obvious reoccurring theme.
  22. Zavok and Zik could formulate a decent plan between them. I think those two would be the narrative focus of anything D6 related. If it were me writing up a plot, I'd like to see the Deadly six put out a call for help to both Sonic and Eggman. Offering a truce to both sides and playing a proxy game where they could try to have both sides eliminate each other while they could be ready to swoop in and take advantage of the chaos. Zavok and two others could work with Eggman, looking to trap Sonic on Lost Hex and beat him, while Zik could take the other 2 and work with Sonic and Tails to fend off Eggman's latest incursion onto their homeland. Even if Sonic and Tails knew they were walking into a trap, they really wouldn't be in a position to refuse. At the end, you reunite the two groups of 3 for a final boss to the arc. TSR showed that Zavok isn't above working with Eggman, and Zik is all about letting other people do the leg work. Seems like a good as place as any to drum up some plot points for the D6.
  23. Looking forward to that too. There are a lot of situational lines and I am pretty sure I'll only hear the one's for the small handful of characters I happen to main. Sonic shaking his fist and shouting "You'll get yours Metal Sonic" made my day. Also, the character renders are gorgeous. I can't wait for those to get ripped out too.
  24. But unlike Sonic's potentially being a rabbit, the idea to give Sonic a legit 100% love interest has popped up no less than 3 times over 3 different games. That's not an accident. and? It happened. Just because it sucked doesn't mean we get to ignore it. Especially when we are having a conversation about the apparent intent of the parent company. They put that product out there knowing full well how people would interpret that as a "relationship". Even you can't ignore it as a reoccurring theme though. When your just looking at Sega, a handful of people who are in charge of a handful of projects decided that it would be a good idea to give Sonic a girlfriend. Some of that didn't make it past pre-release, but a lot of it did (namely Elise and Amy). That's not a mistranslation and that's not embellishment of license holders. That is blatant intent. Somebody somewhere thought it would be a good idea. How can you even come to that conclusion though? Sonic as a franchise isn't and shouldn't be focused pairing off characters to any radical degree, but the parent company has shown that it is willing, capable and able to do so to fit a narrative - and has doubled down on that end by creating multiple female characters to fill that role. Sonic is not asexual. He's just in a series that doesn't need to focus on that aspect of his life. Of course Sonic is romance averse. Romance kind of conflicts with one of his most prominent character traits. That kind of goes without saying. But there is no reason to leverage that as asexual, or even bi - especially considering that Sega has dumped multiple female partners in his lap in the games alone. That reads as more self-insert garbage than leaning in the other direction which at the very least has some precedent in the other, non-sega mediums.
  25. And yet, from his inception, Sonic was originally designed to have a girlfriend. Madonna is a thing in the concept art. Then, enter Amy Rose. A blatantly obvious fan-girl who brought the idea of romance into the forefront. Couple that with Tiara a few years after that, who has been on the record confirmed to be designed as a love interest for Sonic. Enter Elise, obvious love interest. Enter Blaze, shiptease ahoy. That "Girls are icky" approach doesn't even hold up in the face of the games, let alone the franchise at large. Sonic may try to always play it cool, and avoid mushy mellowdrama, but lets not pretend like he's afraid of catching cooties or something. The dude has, and has always intended to be, a mingler with the female cast. You can't ignore generations worth of intention that constantly pair Sonic up with one of his female friends.
