    4. Ferno

i just realized who made this status after almost an hour

Hope you've been good the past couple months/years(?)

    5. Nepenthe

@Dejimon11 If it wouldn't have been, such a shame. I'm not a staffie anymore. |3

@Ferno Ayyy Ferno! I've been good! How about you?

    6. Ryannumber1Santa

a blast from the past came back to represent the best frog boi

    7. Nepenthe

      Lucio fans get a PRRRRROMOTION

    8. Ferno

@Nepenthe Been alright, even more of an art nerd now but I still visit here regularly even if just to haunt the statuses/ lurk a thread or two out of nonstop nostalgia.

    9. Ryannumber1Santa

The frog boi was my first gold gun on Overwatch, he is best boi.

Granted, I don't get the chance to play him anywhere near as often as I used to, since I've usually got to end up hopping on Zen or Mercy for heals, but I love playing him whenever I can, especially for those environmental kills

    10. Nepenthe

@Ferno I know what you mean. I should haunt every now and again, maybe when the next Sonic game is released.

@Ryannumber1gamer Oh, I one-trick Lucio to the max. I let other people pick up main healer slack. I like the movement freedom he gives, as well as being a skirmisher and harasser. You wear a lot of hats on Lucio. Current goal is to hit Diamond; got to the 2900s once.

@Nepenthe I just logged in so I may be LTTP (got back from work), but cool to see you drop in for a visit! It's been such a long while.

    15. Nepenthe

@Milo Long time no see! It's actually heartwarming to see so many of the older folks.

I somehow clicked on early 2013 status updates just a couple hours ago while I was asleep so it took me a while to piece together I was back on the main page bc of this lmao

I'm personally in uni now tryna get a degree and experience n stuff, having a bit of issues with work but hopefully itll all blow over soon. Good to see you around and doing alright, though!

    18. Nepenthe

2013 status updates. Has it been that long? Jesus.

And good luck on Uni; trust me I know that road's tough, but you can do it! Good seeing you too as well @The Deleter

      To answer your question, surviving.
It's nice to see you back 😄

    20. Kuzu

      The fuck?

    21. Nepenthe

Thank you @Teoskaven And I'm surviving too, basically. xD

      Three years?!! OMG. 😲

    24. Kuzu

We figured you moved on to bigger (read: Less eccentric) places. Glad to see you back tho.

    25. Nepenthe

      Bigger? Yes. Less eccentric? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Is this the arc where old faces return for a thing with the current cast after the big eventful arc as a downtime thing in my shonen animes

  2. When the cooldowns are reduced:

    1. Ryannumber1Santa

Me and my friend basically have a combo that breaks total mayhem at this point, he goes Doomfist, and I go Sombra. I take down abilities, leaving characters defenceless to his attacks.

And I swear, there is no greater feeling in this world than constantly deactivating Pharah's abilities.

    2. Nepenthe

Sombras are getting good now and it's slightly frightening.

    3. Ryannumber1Santa

Don't worry, she's still pretty terrible on console.

Well, mainly because no one can aim to actually finish off characters on console, so what typically happens is

      >deactivate ability

      >no teammates around

      >shoot desperately to try kill the enemy

      >three enemies kill you

      And that's Console!Sombra.

    4. Nepenthe

Well, PC!Sombra, in the right hands, is a beast.

Note, in the right hands. I had one match where I literally kept punching her to death. It was kinda sad.

    5. Ryannumber1Santa

On console, her and Ana are kind of in the same area. Both can be really effective in the right hands, constantly deactivating abilities, being sneaky, EMPing at the right time etc etc, but Ana's problem is most players don't have good aim, especially in High Platinum/Diamond and in Quick Play, and Sombra doesn't have a lot of people bothering to learn her effectively. I've been using Total Mayhem to try learn her because there's more of a safety net there for screwing up, it allows me to learn good ways to flank enemies, and take down their abilities before getting out, or if they're weak, finishing them.

Nep is ready to beat everyone at MK8.

    3. Nepenthe

I would actually prefer to cooperate and play Overwatch. I main Lucio, because someone has to keep the DPS dumbasses alive with a friendship circle. Now come over here and let's have a party on the payload.

    4. DiamondX

      But I don't have Overwatch...

    5. Nepenthe

      This saddens me greatly.

    6. Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon
    7. DiamondX

But I want to get it. Don't know if  PS4 or PC.

    8. Nepenthe

PC. Faster updates, a working reporting system, and better aim assist controls. Some characters are apparently nigh unplayable on console.

      @Jovahexeon Ace Joranvexeon I don't have Smesh.

    9. Strickerx5

I thought I felt a disturbance in the MK8 force...

    10. Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon
    11. DiamondX

I'll see. I want to get the game but I'm not that great...

    12. Alex2Beta

      currently procastina--

    13. Boomer

      Hooray you play a healer.

      I mainly play Mercy.

      (Although I am wearing a Rein t-shirt)

    14. Nepenthe

xD I got tired of teams never putting a healer on so I started instalocking him. Plus Lucio is super fun to play, and I'm guaranteed a gold medal in something without having to be the best killer. So why not?

    15. Boomer

I just like people owing me

And I mean normally I choose between being tank or healer, way too many people just play DPS...

    16. Nepenthe

I only like tanking if I've got a got healer who's gonna pocket me. Just stand next to me and I can do a little work as Orisa.

    17. DiamondX

What would be a good starting character?

    18. Wraith

I was bout to take a break myself but I'll say hi to you before I do. Been a minute

    19. Nepenthe

@Diamond Dragon X Soldier is recommended as the starter because he's a jack-of-all-trades gateway character from traditional FPS games. If you've touched CoD, you'll know how he plays. Plus, he's got some nice abilities like sprint and area healing to give you staying power. However, feel free to try everyone in Quick Play games until you find your niche(s). You should ideally be able to play one single character in each of the four classes.

      @Josh Long time no see!

    20. DiamondX

So I have to main 4 characters?

I played OW once  when it was a free weekend.

      I think I played with Soldier 76.

    21. Nepenthe

Well, I main Lucio. However, I can be effective with Soldier, Pharah, Reaper, Junkrat, Winston, and Orisa. Sometimes, Lucio isn't needed or isn't working as well as I'd like him too, or I'm just dying too often. Team comps and skill levels can alter the flow of a match on the fly, so to be as effective as possible you need to be flexible. But that's the fun of Overwatch.

If you want to main only one character however, no one's going to fuss if you main a healer or a traditional tank. xD

    22. Kuzu

    23. Ryannumber1Santa

Overwatch and a Lucio main, two good decisions at once.

I love playing Lucio myself as a main healer, he was even my first gold gun and the character I trained to comp with in terms of healing, at least at first.

But then I realised I'm on console and unless playing with friends, typically end up getting stuck with a team who don't wanna group up because as we all know, flanking on defence is the best way to handle things.

and that's the story of why I have to play Mercy on Season 6 as opposed to the funnest healer around.

But yeah, good to see you around again.

@Diamond Dragon X It's not a case of having to pick mains, but Overwatch is built on team composition and in general, trying to be flexible. Every hero is simple to pick up and have skills that transfer over to other characters, but again, it's all about hero composition. If you want to win, sometimes you have to bite the bullet and pick a character you might dislike or not play who you want to play as in order to help your team. In most cases, if your team runs 5 DPS characters, running Hanzo or Genji, or someone like that typically means your team will likely lose.

    24. Kiah

Of course you show up when I'm napping as I am absolutely exhausted from working so much...

The working world is something else ain't it? Nice to see you around here again Nep! ?

    25. Nepenthe

Hi Kiah! Long time no see!

And it certainly is. I close again tomorrow. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun.

    26. Kiah

Closing...that's the story of my life girl. I'm scheduled to close 5 nights this week...

  4. So Priebus got fired/resigned and it was announced on Twitter. You can never tell what's gonna happen in a day in Trump's America™.
  5. I don't think people here understand the gravity of what McCain did. They've been hammering the healthcare bill so many times because of budget reconciliation where you basically get a toss-up on a bill and get to vote on it for 50 Senate votes instead of 60. If it doesn't go to a vote at all, as what has been happening, you get to start it over with reconciliation rules still in play. Instead of doing the Merry-Go-Round yet again, they allowed it to come to a vote in the Senate because they presumed that they finally had the votes to pass it through McCain. However, he said no, against everyone's expectations. That means it's dead for the entire fiscal year (they don't have 60 votes) and McConnell, Ryan, and the rest of their objectivist, obstructionist ilk can thoroughly go fuck themselves. Letting it come to this point was ultimately the best case scenario for at-risk Americans and Democrats, especially since McCain is probably not long for this world anyway. Republicans are now stuck between a rock and a hard place-- They've got nothing to show for all of the theater they've done, and they've further opened the course for a blue sweep in midterms should they try this shit again next year (and they probably will, because campaign promises and their inherent general assholery). So, cater to your deplorable constituents and remind the rest of America that you tried to kill them last year, or actually do the right thing at the risk of your seat in deep red counties? Decisions, decisions.
  6. Here's the utterly delicious kicker if true. Basically, they're doing this to force Democrats to potentially campaign on an obviously egregious violation of human decency come the midterms (else they face potential backlash from their own base), hoping the Rust Belt will decry this as the Dems playing (non-white) social politics and vote against them out of spite. So congratulations to Hillary on ultimately being right. Even Republican politicians think their own base is deplorable enough to use this as political leverage.
  7. So Trump randomly decided on his own to disbar transgender individuals from military service because fuck them (also probably needs a distraction issue.)
  8. Here's a video showing absolutely ridiculous billiards shots I didn't even think were possible:

      Your Vest Friend

      Aw, he's a Yorkshire lad!

  9. I once turned my bird into a gryphon for funsies but he has no wings because he's just that fucking stupid:

  10. I have no opinion of IDW or Sonic comics, so have some art of the one fan character I used to not like but now I like again because he has a personality now, hedgehog hate be damned:

    1. Dejimon11

Maybe you should apply to IDW for a job as an artist? Also nice character

    2. Wraith

      He looks like ashura lol

Is that Manic as a stoner or something?

    5. Nepenthe

@Josh Looool, he actually was based off Ashura! I just made the black parts a darker green.

@Dejimon11 If they're doing an open hiring process, I might. Although I need to do some comic stuff. Haven't in a really long time.

@SenEDDtor Missile My hedgie is a powerless 20-year old drunkard who likes black fashion. He is absolutely perfect.

    6. Wraith

Asura is usually rethought as a saiyanhog type char so this is refreshing

    7. Nepenthe

My hedgie has always been without powers as a basic starting point in any work or RP, aside from basic rolls and things. Makes him more fun to write about or put on an adventure since he can't Saiyan his way out of an issue.

    8. Kiah

Awesome work as always Nep! :)

  11. All that emotional turmoil for nothing.

    1. Dejimon11

No it still is for something. They're pretty much starting over from scratch also people lost their jobs....sooooo

    2. Ellipsis-Ultima

They may also not use the freedom Fighters and egg bosses so...

  12. My general feeling towards Mania is pure apathy. It's a classic game in 2017, one that honestly should've been done by Sega years and years before, if only as a replacement of Sonic 4. Good on it for existing, but we've got Mario running around in a 3D environment where tons of objects and even enemies are stand-ins for traditional power-ups. I kind of want to Sonic as a whole to move on in ways comparable to that.
  13. Old Woman Yelling At Clouds here, but the rows we've had with Forces don't approach the things said and done on SSMB back in 2005 when ShtH dropped, when there were actual topics made back then for the express purpose of singling out a portion of fans and blaming them for the state of things, and they were left open for awhile too, something we wouldn't allow today. Some of y'all just wouldn't survive the forum back then if Forces' reception is bothering you this much. Granted, I don't take too much stock in noting that the fanbase is fractured, because I think the whole concept as typically expressed is intellectually trite and has yet to lead to anything worthy of being called a solution to any purported problem. It never takes into account: - To what extent fans who subscribe to different parts of the fandom do so exclusively and at the expense of all others (did you know that you can be a classic and modern fan at the same time?!) - Overlapping areas of agreement concerning what features different fans want or will tolerate and compromise on, thus ignoring the potential of actually coming up with a game design that would be better liked than what we're getting now (I literally haven't seen a person yet who thinks rolling or less automated physics systems shouldn't come back, even if they're fine with the boost physics) - To what extent hype culture plays in the expression of an opinion at the time that highly valued news drops (people saying "best/worst game ever!" when a new trailer drops usually aren't being literal, and we should do well to recognize that by now) - Changing standards of video game design on the reception of newer games (this typically overlooked when people ask "Why did you like Generations if you don't like Forces?!") - Changing standards of individuals as they, you know, age, grow up, and expand their gaming tastes, like normal human beings - Sonic Team's actual quality output, particularly when compared to any other contemporary game series. When paradigm-shifting titles like Breath of the Wild and Odyssey are dropping the same year, Generations 2 with darkness and OCs attached just isn't good enough. Where is Sonic's Odyssey, and why aren't we demanding it? Seriously, I have never seen anyone go into any real depth on the subject of the fan dynamics at play here while taking into account the extent of various other cultural forces at play on the situation. All noting that "the fanbase is fractured!" does is simply complain about people having different opinions. Well, no shit- look at the variance in games released over Sonic's 3D lifespan. The amount of sheer design and aesthetic choice that Sonic Team has unwittingly offered us over the years was going to inevitably result in this. However, that doesn't mean we can't do much, much better than Forces, it doesn't mean we can't ever get a game that makes more people happier than they are now. Nor should it really matter what people think in the now. We all like something that is contentious (unless you're boring AF), we've all been in the minority, and we should stop giving so much time and energy into trying to constantly make a big deal out of being in the minority. I like the Werehog for Pete's sakes. I don't think you understand, I really like the Werehog. In terms of my participation in the community, I don't care that much what other Sonic fans think about my favorite things, and no one else should either. Listen back to the music, make some fan art of Infinite, create some positivity-only topics (these aren't against the rules; staff won't stop you), go to these other places online where Forces is apparently getting a super positive reception. Don't make yourself miserable for no reason.
  14. Whether or not someone likes using a word in particular has no bearing on the issue of defining what the word is to achieve understanding. I myself hate the term "edgy," because I don't think it's particularly helpful in discourse about the narrative and characters due to the way it's been thrown around at everything and anything any given fan can find distasteful.
  15. We need to work off of an agreed-upon definition of what "edgy" is in the context of Sonic before we even begin to answer that question in a way that rationally separates Infinite from the rest of the pack, and it doesn't help that the word at this point is just a generic joke meme to throw at anything and everything that doesn't smile. So yeah, good fucking luck with this topic.
  16. Tails is in the key art as a normal hero, so unless Infinite is Future Tails then that's (unfortunately) not looking likely.
  17. Infinite has an asymmetrical, metallic, pointed mask on his face that shows just one eye... which has red sclera. He floats around, teleports, shoots blasts, summons energy cubes, and is commanding the entire recurring secondary villain cast, probably through mind control or being able to create glitched copies or something. His hands are actually clawed. He beats up Sonic with ease. Also, his name is Infinite. He's as big an edgelord as Mephiles.
  18. I mostly agree. I kinda sorta like Infinite's design (dat tail) and his voice- which is the one Shadow should've had but I will not be salty about it for long- but he hasn't done anything that's particularly novel in the context of this franchise yet. There's also the lingering fear of the climax of this game just being a whole bunch of weird apocalyptic fuckery that is unnecessary in light of the way the game was presented at first light, which was that Eggman took over on his own merits. Infinite's biggest offense thus far is that he feels superfluous.
  19. To be fair, in a franchise where the Overton Window for what's allowable is smaller than Pokemon's, Infinite might as well be fucking Jigsaw or something.
  20. Lucky for you, there's a whole topic dedicated to explaining in paragraphs of detail why people don't like this game. Furthermore (not directly addressed to you): If people want to talk about the mean things people are saying about Forces, you have private messages to duke it out directly with the people who have supposedly said "I don't like Forces because it's different," if you can find anyone who said that. However, this topic is about Infinite's trailer introduction, not about the tired meta commentary that happens whenever people who like a game can't co-exist with the people who don't. Back on topic.
  21. Some people following one of the examples doesn't mean the constant complaining about people who doesn't like Forces hasn't simultaneously occurred yet again.
  22. We're such a minority that people manage to get deep in their feelings every time so new stuff drops that's flawed. You'd think people would utilize the ignore list or have the personal wherewithal to just post about what they like regardless, instead of constantly complaining or trying to people expressing themselves within the boundaries of the rules, if we're really that much of a minority. Alas, here we are yet again, and it gets to the point where one must ask themselves "Who are y'all trying to convince?" Not that any determinations of who the majority or minority are that people on both sides are pulling out of their asses even matter to the validity of conversations at hand in this particular forum that aren't about explicitly that. What mainly matters is that this kind of meta commentary about opinions and how horrible the people who don't like Forces are is still against the rules and immediately punishable, because we'd rather you guys instead talk about the subject matter at hand rather than flailing around against the phenomenon that is simply different opinions. So yeah, do that.
  23. The use of old elements in the games should not be discussed in a vacuum, nor should they be construed as the biggest problem people have with Forces in the first place. The fact is, Group A wanted a 2D Sonic game that actually looked and physically felt like the classics, while Group B has wanted a 3D game that breaks out of the confines of excessive scripting, nails down a single robust gameplay style, uses the existing cast in gameplay roles, and uses plots and narrative devices that aren't embarrassing in 2006, let alone 2017. Both groups inherently recognize that these differences in demands are valid and coming from two different places, hence why no one gives a shit that Mania is a retread. Even if it's not something people in Group B wanted, they understand that not only is it what Group A wanted, but it's actually doing what those Group A wanted well. It's mechanically identical to a bunch of older games that in and of themselves were mechanically sound in the first place. On top of this, Mania is also a $20 downloadable game. It is, in the grand scheme of things, harmless. Meanwhile, Forces so far is not checking anything on many 3D fans' list off or is actually doing them worse, such as the physics and level design of Classic Sonic. Avatar's features and gameplay are at best considered a mild diversion, and at worst considered to be a mechanically awful addition that undermines the design possibilities and agency of the existing cast people have been begging for since arguably 2008. The narrative elements revealed at E3 are also part of the contention as a villains' rogue that potentially ignores certain characters' development in service of justifying yet another unabashedly evil superpowered anthro like Mephiles is not what Group B really wanted to see. On top of that, this thing is gonna be $50 minimum, and we don't know whether or not Sega will continue to keep the contentious ideas such as the Avatar creator if it's successful enough, which Iizuka himself admitted is the result of fan letters from 12 year olds and not any actual roundtable of seasoned adult game designers. This is really fucking worrisome. The fact is, Green Hill is the least of Forces' problems and the fundamental issues people have with the game would not be solved by removing it.To boil down the difference in reception between both games to hypocrisy over rehashed elements is completely disingenuous, a reading of the situation so fundamentally inaccurate as to raise the question of whether or not one has even been in the respective topics themselves.
  24. Looks like a generic confrontation scene. Like, I'm 99% sure Avatar is actually pointing but the camera angle is obscuring his index finger.
  25. Well, that was something. A little off-beat in terms of trailer editing, but...okay. *shrugs* I mean, the absolute worst thing about it to me was that song in the beginning, but otherwise...I got no overwhelming feelings on this, and I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
