  1. Why didn't you guys tell me that the song "The ARK' from ShtH's soundtrack referenced Final Rush?

    1. The Deleter

      The Deleter

And Heavy Dog/Blue Falcon are remixes of their own boss music from SA2 respectively, and 2 player battle is flat out a more techno radical highway remix

  2. Every time I skip to a new song on the Colors soundtrack I go "Aww, it's cute."

    1. Wraith

      Planet Wisp makes me emotional

    2. Kiah

Girl Colors be my Sonic soundtrack right there!

    3. Adamabba

The Special Stage theme from DS makes me warm inside

  3. Listening to the Adventure soundtracks again....

I'm crying. I miss this musical quality and variety for Sonic games so much.

    1. Nepenthe

Also, Shadow got the better end of the deal as far as BGMs are concerned in SA2.

    2. Wraith

white jungle white jungle white jungle white jungle

Yeah, a lot of SA2 sounded a bit generic compared to SA1. The character-centric instrumentation was a cool idea, but the tunes weren't often memorable, especially since they spam rock guitar into a lot of them anyway (I liked a lot of Eggman's as well though).

SA1 has a lot of my favourites due to the more retro style. Blue Azure World and Theme of E-102 are works of art.

    4. Dejimon11

Man sonic soundtracks are just amazing

    5. Patticus

I don't mind the whole rock music thing they had going, as it worked pretty well at times, but it got pretty samey after a bit, and most of the tracks were forgettable. Also, I think Sonic could work pretty well with the occasional techno/dance track:

    6. CottonCandy

Ugh, I miss that too. Adventure ost is nearly 20 years old and I still prefer it over the newer tracks the series gave us.

    7. MegasonicZX

If we could at the minimum get more tracks like this then I will be happy.

    8. Ryannumber1gamer

You'll get your goddamn Sonic Boom main theme and like it

  4. I'm voting entirely strategically in the music event. Passed over songs like Tornado Scramble needs love.

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

You mean Tornado Defence right :U

    2. Nepenthe

      hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha- no.

    3. Ryannumber1gamer
    4. E-122-Psi

Hell, all the Tornado themes. :D

Including 'Tornado' in Windy Valley. :P

    5. Forte-Metallix

That song's context within the game is enough to blacklist it.

    6. E-122-Psi

Am I the only one who liked the Sky Chase mini games?

    7. Ryannumber1gamer

      i legitimately like it :<

I mean yeah, the levels themselves aren't really good, but I think personally the themes are pretty good, especially 1st Battle's which is a nice little peaceful tune which speeds up a bit. It's like peace but with a bit of energy to spice things up too.

    8. Wraith

That's why stuff like White Jungle and Eternal engine are topping my lists lol

  5. They'll be revealed in the results thread that will be made afterwards! As for shooting for them, well, so long as you followed all of the rules and suggestions per soundtrack, you might be able to earn a few!.... Might. That set of badges isn't based on any tallies. >D
  6. Hey guys! I just wanted to give a quick thanks to everyone who's participated thus far. We've got a lot of votes to put into the system, which is good! The bigger the sample size, the bigger the consensus we can get. I'm excited to see which particular song is going to come out on top, and just how crazy the list is gonna be. And a special thank you to people who have messaged us with missing songs and questions and thoughts about the event. That kind of feedback helps us out, and should we do this next year, it's going to be far more polished; I promise! Note: this context was technically supposed to end at midnight last night, but since your host is terrible with midnight dates, I honestly forgot, so you all secretly-ish got an extra day! I loved the scrambling from people who are paying attention. xD So yes: MIDNIGHT IS THE DEADLINE. IF YOU'VE GOT ANY EXTRA BADGES YOU WANNA TRY TO SHOOT FOR, NOW'S YOUR LAST CHANCE. I'm thinking I want the Sonic badge myself. <<;;
  7. I got teamwalled by a Mei in competitive. I honestly hope they get permabanned.

    1. Wraith

      I want Mei permabanned

  8. So I got into the sneaker game for the first time. A brand of limited Yeezy's went up for online raffle, and I tried my hand at reserving a pair before it maxed out.

    Took a massive L.

Is this what the sneaker game is like? It's so disappointing. xD

    1. Wraith

Will never understand the fiending for sneakers

    2. Kuzu the Boloedge

      Kuzu the Boloedge

@Josh It's mostly for status and appearances, status is everything in the hood.

  9. Since everyone else has made the argument I would've made, I'd like to ask what problems exist in the actual narrative of the main Sonic Team releases that are so egregious and irreconcilable between the classic games and everything else that it necessitate a split timeline to fix.
  10. The reason the idea is getting flack is because there's literally no good reason to do it. There's no reason to split the timeline or dimensional fabric of the canon up just because different artists in Sega draw Sonic differently. You want to make a cool classic game? Then just make one. Mania would not be restricted in any sense by being set in a single timeline with the rest of the games that came before. All splitting the canon up does is unnecessarily complicate things.
  11. I hope it is, because that would be eleven fucking villains in one game all vying for some satisfying level of narrative justification. In the last Sonic Team developed game, they couldn't even bother really developing six of them beyond their basic tropes.
  12. The E3 trailer and gameplay threw a lot of elements into play swiftly and suddenly that's adding unnecessary complexity to what started off as a really simple-ass base premise, thus it's raising the threshold for what is going to be reasonably satisfying writing and explanations for people who give a modicum of a damn. We have time travel, dimension-hopping, a new pantheon of villains- and three out of four of them honestly shouldn't even be here/villainous- and a second major villain who's undoubtedly the mastermind behind everything/ultimate baddie. All this game needed to be was "Eggman finally takes over the world, and the animals band together to fix it." Add some tension through both internal conflict of the group (ex. Sonic wants to do x, Knuckles or Shadow want to do y) and external conflict caused by Eggman's shenanigans (ex. a short-term victory is cut off by a sudden or even deliberate base collapse that separates the animals; oh noes! Gotta rescue our friends!) Use Infinite/Infinity to both explain why Classic Sonic is here and serve as a third-act change in tension where he inevitably usurps Eggman and the situation becomes more dire than it was previously. That's it. That's literally all they had to do. Now we need individual reasons for why Chaos is here, why Zavok is here without his friends, why Sega keeps insisting on fucking over Shadow, what Infinite/Infinity's deal is, and how the dimensional nonsense plays into all of this, on top of still telling a basic narrative like the above. And then we have the Avatar, and you know they're going to be central to nearly everything that goes on. People have already pointed out that the cast basically responds to them in a Sue-ish/fourth wall manner ("Only you can do this very simple task!"), so what limited story time there is is going to be dedicated to playing them up since they're playable, which means unless we get a more cut scenes or longer cut scenes on average, something's going to fall by the wayside due to the simple matter of project prioritization, and after eight years of this I'm not giving the writing the benefit of the doubt that they'll be able to cram satisfactory writing into this on all fronts. Expecting the worst, hoping for mediocrity, will be genuinely surprised if it's not some level of a clusterfuck.
  13. If he's present Shadow, then there exists the plothole of why in the world he was insistent on revisiting the whole fight in SA2 to begin with. It's never explained. It's honestly easier to take him as another "thing" that got displaced out of time no different from the levels themselves
  14. As a very straightforward adventure where the goal is to stop Eggman, Generations doesn't leave much room for questions. It spills the pot of potential all over the floor and shrugs it off, but the plotting itself isn't really confusing. However, if you care about canon or if you're a time travel fan, yeah, it's a hot fucking mess. SA2(?) Shadow's presence isn't the only issue, although he's a big one (and it would be kinda cool in Forces if these characters were their Generations incarnations) but there's also the issue of how Classic Sonic's adventures affected future events. Either we've got two timelines (which would also very nicely justify the whole "alternate dimension" angle), or- again- we've got two Shadows, two Eggmans, and a Silver running around in the present..... Honestly, in talking about it, I will forgive a lot of storytelling dumbfuckery if Forces exists solely to explain away this shit and gets crazy with it Goku Black arc-style.
  15. Literally no one on staff cares enough about this petition to ban you over it. Stop martyring yourself for no reason. You have two posts here. Chill. Also, let's stop giving the aptly-named Fuhrer attention please.
  16. We're not really one for petitions because they're simultaneously easy to spam while not being particularly helpful in the long run to most issues. Also this? Do not ever again. Thank you.
  17. My life in Overwatch last night:

  18. Sonic Boom's competition is Rick and Morty, Gravity Falls, Bob's Burgers, and Steven Universe. All I can say to that end is "good luck."
  19. Eggman actually does a lot of shit in secrecy all the time. He's premiered huge creations like the Death Egg and Egg Carrier, blew up the moon from a once-dormant space station and then Earth from a fleet that was a front, managed to bring several planets into Earth's atmosphere without setting off alarm bells, basically took over Lost Hex before Sonic and Tails got there. I don't see any reason why he couldn't have mass produced Death Egg Robots in secrecy and then just let them loose.
  20. For an actual reintroduction that will be the least contentious, just make a few other characters unlockable for optional, non-canon funsies after you beat whatever boost game is coming up next with Sonic. All you have to do is paste a new model on Sonic's math and give it some appropriate animations per action, and this can't be any more work than what has to be done with Sonic when he uses a Wisp. Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Metal would be fine starting points since they're popular and have been copy-pasted onto Sonic's basic gameplay beforehand anyway. If it were up to me, I'd get Sonic working similar-ish to his Adventure incarnation: Running, jumping, rolling/Spindashing, and Homing Attacking is his basic move set, and that needs to be contextualized within an environment that takes advantage of it through a smoother physics system and linear levels with meaningful set-pieces and diversions in the pathway between A and B. The set-pieces diversions are important because they would justify other characters being playable in the same locations. If Tails isn't following Sonic, there's no reason he should follow Sonic's most likely path in the same way. Put him higher in the sky and give him a set-piece or two that makes sense for that location. Likewise for Knuckles whose strength and digging abilities should allow him to get down into places Sonic would have little need or interest in reaching.
  21. There's so much left unsaid by the writers about Lost World that Zavok doesn't appeal to me much beyond the potential characterization within his own shallowness; really, a puddle described by Orwell is still a puddle at the end of the day. The set-up with Eggman effectively taking siege of the Zeti's planet is perfect fodder for a revenge story and some interesting emotions, but they throw it all away for generic genocidal villainy towards everyone because fuck it, we need a major villain to fuel tension. It's annoyingly trite within a context of a game that tries to boast interesting moral explorations. Furthermore, I can't really say I have confidence that Forces will significantly develop Zavok because the issue of character overload still remains. He's sharing space with Eggman, Metal, Shadow, and Chaos who are all more popular, and on top of all of that he's not even the main villain anyway- that honor goes to Infinite/Infinity. So my hunch tells me he and the other villains are going to be screwed out of a chance to be properly justified and that he's really only here because they're trying to cram as much cool stuff in as possible. Granted, I guess the idea of him being exposition fodder would be better than the nothingburger I'm describing so I'll take it. As for whether or not he can be allowed to appear with the other Zeti. I mean, I guess. Technically... but why?
  22. Here's 8 minutes of Dashie giving up on Mario Maker levels:

    1. Dejimon11

Why is this guys content so good?

    2. Silencer226

      @Dejimon11 Cause he's genuine and he's Dashie.

    3. Strickerx5

I had no idea who this guy was before now but I want to thank you for bringing him to my attention.

    4. Forte-Metallix

Sometimes you gotta quit while you're behind- Especially if you're in sixthf.

    6. Kiah

I'm so tempted to click on this now but seeing how I'm guaranteed to get a headache watching this from laughing so hard I just can't right now. When I get home from work sure :P

    7. Kiah

Okay I just watched it and I'm in tears from laughing so hard! And my head hurts per usual when watching Dashie's videos!

I just thought of something: you have a Dashie topic, right? Update that sucker! :P

  23. Sonic Boom fans, y'all are on notice too:

    1. Milo

At this point the mods will probably have to bring Shark Week back to SSMB if this keeps up :v

    2. Kiah

Shark week should always be a thing it seems...especially if we have obnoxious behavior going on in a cartoon thread of all places.

    3. Nepenthe

I think we're doing good in isolating very specific behaviors that we've noticed contribute to people's dissatisfaction on here, giving everyone fair warning about it, and not hemming and hawing about punishments. Hopefully this results in long term change for the better.

    4. SonicWind

Yeah, hopefully. This community isn't perfect, but you guys always strive to make it a little less hostile.

    5. Ellipsis-Ultima

      ... Shark week?

  24. Yeah. Calling out people with screenshots, saying they need to "think about what they're saying" just because they didn't like an episode of a cartoon show and reasonably explained why, and trying to characterize them for hating the entire season (not that there would be anything wrong with that) when they end the post saying "this episode from season 2 was great" is utterly preposterous. This behavior of people personally ganging up on individuals for not being as positive as others would like them to be is such a turn-off that I made an extension to the Upcoming Games subforum's rules that this behavior is specifically banned now and will be subject to strikes on the spot. Since this thread is out of jurisdiction, I will not be striking anyone for this today; however, I have absolutely no problem in extending jurisdiction and putting this thread on notice, particularly since the thread in general has been a noted problem in the past. So you all are warned. Any of this crap in the Sonic Boom thread will be subject to immediate strikes from this point on, no questions asked. People are allowed to feel however they want about Sonic and express that in a way that does not break the forum rules.
