  1. I really hope BOTW 2 is able to suck me in for weeks/ months like the first one did. Sure, nothing will ever come close to the first time I found each tower and uncovered new parts of the map, but maybe the sequel can expand the map itself to maybe twice the size to give players a similar feeling. (like maybe let us explore some of the regions beyond the cliffs that surround the boundaries of the map for example.) Though as some have already speculated, we may be getting underground regions so that could be fun.

Also I hope they better utilize the power of the Switch to maybe give us 60fps this go around. I always got the feeling that performance was sometimes lacking in the first one due to it being a Wii U title that got a Switch port added on late in its development.

The Switch is not that much of a step up at all hardware wise so I expect 30fps again unfortunately. It'll probably be more stable than last time but thats about it

Yeah, as far as performance goes I only expect improved stability. The output resolution and framerate likely won't change.

As for the game inself, yeah its strange and I don't know what to expect. BotW captivated me in my first playthrough like nothing else has ever done before. Not only was the world incredible to explore, but there was so much to learn. The mechanics of the game were so unique and interesting, especially for a Zelda game. Discovering how it re-wrote the Zelda rulebook made it feel like an entirely new franchise at the same that it all of the knowledge I already had for the series. I doubt the sequel could replicate that.

I assume it'll be a Galaxy 2 situation where the sequel could potentially be the better game but you'll never reproduce that exact same magic.

I'm mainly just fascinated by how they're going to handle it being set in the same Hyrule as the previous game.  There's no way they can let us explore the entire map again and refill it with brand new content, and even if they did I don't super want to, I've already poured over 100 hours into that world twice over now.  Like I'm sure they could pull it off and it's an excellent overworld, but I'd hate to get burned out on it, or have the sequel reduce interest in replaying the first again because we've spent just so much time on this map.

Honestly, I'll take the locked 30 at this point. I fucking love BotW but holy shit, that was some late 360/PS3 era performance at multiple points. Something most companies would've been racked over the fire for in 2017. Hopefully them being much more familiar with the engine and not having to build everything from scratch this time around pays off in this regard.

Though, I expect it to drag me in all the same, just like the DLC did.

That being said though... BotW at 60fps is an experience. It's just sadly not something I expect from modern Nintendo these days. Maybe a decade down the line with the inevitable re-release they'll do of the game on their future system that'll probably be of similar power to what both Sony and Microsoft are currently offering...

They can only go up from here the way I see it.

BotW was so vast, and yet it felt like they were holding back. If they’re able to give Link a fucking motorcycles and even laser swords (which would’ve been unheard and laughable years before) it’s not hard to imagine what else they could give him. Wouldn’t be to far fetched if they gave him a laser cannon or a helicopter built from scraps of Guardians at this point.
