While he's not my favorite musician to have worked on Sonic, I do like some of his stuff. I adore the Sonic 3 soundtrack (did he do all the music for that?) and I enjoy much of Sonic Adventure 2 (less pretty much all the vocal tracks). The other stuff I can take or leave. Apart from Open Your Heart and Escape From The City, I really can't get into Crush 40. Bought a few of their albums off iTunes and listended ot them once.

I know most of you probably won't care, but I'm leaving the forums. There is just SO much hate here it's ridiculous. Truly, this should be an anti-Sonic/Sega forum rather than a fan one. I've been a life long Sonic and Sega fan and am truly disgusted at the amount of bile on these forums. Yes, I know that fans have the right to voice their displeasure with various things, but people on this forum go WAY past that to actually make time to be negative. Don't you have anything better to do with your lives? It's sad and somewhat pathetic.

I'm sure that someone such as Mogtaki will post in incredibly witty insult about me being a baby and not being able to handle criticism of the character and company I've enjoyed for 20 odd years. Honestly, I couldn't care less. The point of this thread is that the mods/ site admin see it and perhaps think about how this forum portrays not only the site it's a part of but Sonic and Sega fans in general. And it's a type of fan I do not with to be associated with. I'll be looking elsewhere for my Sonic/ Sega news.

Ok, now feel free to slander my thoughts and opinions in the juvenile way this forum relishes.

JD! reacted to tenchibr in Why the animosity towards one another?
I've noticed a growing trend this past couple of weeks. Lately there's been a lot of negative energy flowing around the threads in Sonic Discussion and to some extent, the Marketplace forum. I don't go to other sections as often so I cannot speak on them.

There's been a lot of attacking back and forth and just overall condescending talk going down that discourages me from engaging in the conversations. I don't know how often people come to this section of the forum, but I know this is my first time here to report this, so I have a feeling not a lot of people will read this, but I wish they would.

Without being too specific, I try to play the "innocent until proven guilty" game, so when I see an idea thrown into the ring that might throw some people off, instead of attacking right away, I try to understand that person's point of view first. Who knows? Maybe that person really has good intentions across the board that some of you might be missing out on. If that person at the end of day has proven to me that they are just trying to be a dick or just asking for unnecessary attention, it's not my job to make that call; that's why we have mods, right? So I just let that thread go and move on to something else more interesting.

Overall, the one thing I absolutely hate is when people have a tendency to post how they feel towards something (For example: SA2) just for the sake of promoting animosity ("Bla bla bla this game sucks" and just post that as if it's something worth reading). Please, don't come to a discussion thread if you have nothing worth to discuss.

I can't stop people from saying what they want to say; I just wish that the mutual respect and camaderie that I first felt when I first joined would come back. This is more of a letting-it-all-out post than a request.

Hopefully this phase will subside and things will get better overtime.

JD! reacted to Speedy in The Sonic topic of utter positivity
Hey folks. Did anyone else notice how many discussions about Sonic games (or the whole franchise in general) quickly end up being crammed full of negative stuff, people complaining, moaning and criticizing? Anyone else out there sick of hearing so much negative crap about the games you like and think you'd need a change for once? Well, I certainly do.

That's why I made this topic now. Aside of every game, TV show and so on (not only Sonic stuff for that matter) having its flaws, there surely are a lot of good things, a lot of positive aspects each of us has found in the games. After all, we're all on this forum because we're fans of Sonic and by my understanding of the word 'fan' that'd mean we all, in general, like Sonic games.

So, if it seems the entire internet is sharing negative experiences with Sonic stuff, why not for once put the good things in the spotlight? Yes, I'm asking for praise. (And that also means please keep your complaints out of this topic; there are enough places where you can complain as much as you want.)

Tell the community what makes you a Sonic fan, what game you adore and still go back to play it after years of owning it, what episode in a cartoon you can still laugh about no matter you've seen it a hundred of times, what gameplay elements from any game you loved especially, what story made you most excited, what character is your absolute favorite, and if you're (like me) grinning happily when playing a Sonic game and watching the blue blur rush through his colorful world.

If you're just gonna make it a point to bash their covers, then it's practically the same thing as saying it's a bad thing. So you might as well have said so.

Yeah, people who complain that the music in Sonic 4 is too short seem to forget (or just not care) that Sonic 1 had pretty short tracks (the boss theme and Final Zone, anyone?).Especially the Game Gear version.

But you didn't attack my presentation of my thoughts, you attacked the principles behind them. Which you have no basis for doing. Sure, maybe the way I said it was a bit dramatic but the point I'm trying to make is that I don't want to support Nintendo's practice of attracting customers to their consoles by making the games exclusive to them. Some part of me is against the concept.

    NO.

If this happened I would be floored. It would mean no more Sonic games on any platform that I use (which is mostly the PC) and I would with much sadness have to leave the fanbase and forget the franchise forever. So, fuck that.

Hello folks. It's been a looong time between posts for me, about two years in fact. As such I thought I should re-introduce myself. I'm Joe and hail from Australia. I've been a life long Sonic fan having first played Sonic 2 on the Master System before upgrading to a Mega Drive. Although I dropped out of console gaming after the Dreamcast I still followed Sonic's career and bought is portable titles (GBA and DS).

Having recenlty moved in with my girl who owns a Wii I've started playing those titles and am also enjoying Sonic 4 (I know, contentious -_^) , Sonic Generations and am looking forward to All Star Racing Transformed. I'm also a HUGE fan of Archie's Sonic series.

Looking forward to chatting to you all on the forums.

Oooh, someone is interested in my opinion. That's a rare occurrence.

I think that in both situations it's OK to download the issues, BECAUSE you plan to buy then later. If that intention wasn't there then I'd probably be a bit iffy on the idea, but as this is just a stop-gap until you can get the actually item then yeah, I think that's OK.

We are fans, so we are going to get our stuff any way we can. As you've hate gathered from my posts I prefer legitimate methods, but people will do whatever it takes to get something they love. I actually run a fan site for the comic hero The Phantom. In the Phantom's 70 year publication life a LOT of things have been released to collect, many of which are very hard to track down. Because of this fans will go to bootlegs to experiences those hard to find items. A perfect example is a series of the How To Vote publications the Australian government made education indigenous Australians on the voting system which stared the Phantom. These publications are interesting not only because the Phantom is in them but because they are part of Australian political history - especially of the time when Aboriginals gained the right to vote. However, they are very hard to find nowadays. On my site's forums there are people who sent scans of those books to folks who have never seen them so they can experience such a historic collectable, and that's cool.

However, I've also had a member try to sell illegal digital copies of the Phantom newspaper strips to forum members. This is wrong because absolutely no money is going to the creators and this guy would be profiting from the creators loss. Also, it's very easy to get hold of legitimate copies of the strips; either buy buys an on-liner service to read them on-line, buying the newspapers they are printed in or reprints in various comics/ trades.

Basically, what I'm saying is that if downloading is THE ONLY OPTION then, yeah, that's ok. However, if there are legitimate avenues to take, then I feel they should be taken.

Was that directed at me? Sorry, I must have missed when you posted them. I'll go back and have a look.

Again, I think that's fine because they very well might go and buy the issues. It's if they continue to download and not buy where I see a problem. If you don't like them why take the time to download them in the first place?

The difference here is that the bookstore would have put those books out for people to look at. I do that at bookstores as well. But with illegal downloads Archie has absolutely no say in what is or how it is presented and they have control over what is, essentially, their own product.

Then, again, I ask; if you don't like it why bother spending the time to download and read it when you could be dedicating that time to something you enjoy? Your logic is a bit sqewed there. I actually very much enjoy the current stories.

For all the reasons I posted in my previous message. If you are truly a Sonic fan you wouldn't be intentionally hurting the company who produces Sonic products. If you don't like it, don't buy it, but don't punish the company or the people who do enjoy the series by illegally downloading.

Again, I'd like to stress these are just personal opinions of mine. I'm not trying to force them onto others.

    Awesome discussion, by the way.

    Cheers, guys.

If they are bought from an on-line comics store like Graphic Action then, yes, the money IS going to Archie. The store would have bought those issues from Archie in the past because they knew they would sell. Even though they are back issues they are showing the store that there is interest in the series and thus will continue to order new issues, so Archie will continue to get money. However, if people download the issues then the store isn't seeing that interest in the series there and so could decide it isn't worth them stocking the series as not enough people are buying this issues which causes Archie to loose money.

Even if the issues are bought from Joe Average on eBay this will still impact Archie. Why was the Archives series of trades started? Because Archie knew there was interest in the older issues. They would have got this information from retailers, cons and sites such as eBay. So, again, if you download the back issues rather than buying them the interest is not seen to be there and we wouldn't get things such as the Archives and, again, Archie looses out.

So, basically, it doesn't matter where you buy the issues, it's that you buy them that makes the difference. If you don't buy them then the series may be seen as un-viable in any number of way and may be canceled and, honestly, who want's that?

What people choose to feel is right or wrong is up to them. However, I'm of the mind that downloading comics is wrong for many reasons. Not only are you cheating the creators out of their money, you are also affecting that series and everyone/thing involved with it in ways that could lead to cancellation and loss of jobs. Also, for an industry that is constantly struggling to stay afloat against all the other forms of entertainment it's like you're assisting it to die. And no, that is not over exaggeration. I'm not going to force my views on anyone here, and i doubt my words will stop anyone from downloading comics in the future, but maybe take the time to think about it next time...

Bottomless pits. I hate those stupid, cheating, fall-here-and-you-die things, especially when you are rocketing along with no idea what's up ahead and miss making a jump because you are going so fast. It's just cheap and makes me want to throw the game at wall. But it's not just Sonic games I hate those in, they annoy me in any game.
