    Moonlight Beach
As the name implies, this is a beach at night, lit by a brilliant full moon. Sea turtles can be homing attacked and act as bounce pads that bring Sonic up to different rock formations. Badniks shaped like crabs and seabirds try to attack you. Sand castles can be destroyed to uncover powerups and rings, but some have badniks waiting inside. An invisible wall marked by rocks and kelp keeps Sonic from moving too far into the water. Underwater enemies include shark badniks and octopus badniks that blind you with oil. Giant clams can be homing attacked to bounce you back above the water.
This is a very atmospheric and visually emotional level, but the serenity gets interrupted towards the end. A mini-boss comes in the form of a giant, spike-covered beach patrol cart being driven by two egg pawns humorously dressed as lifeguards. Its blinding headlights shift around and telegraph where they're going to attack. They throw bombs, shoot lasers, all this stuff you have to dodge, but eventually you run over a ramp and while you make it to the other side, they fall into a craggy tidal pool and get hit by a big wave.
Things get calm again as you approach the goal ring, and now there aren't any obstacles. For the next quarter miles, you're surrounded on both sides by a large group of sleeping seals. If you run into them, they bounce you back and forth like a pinball. The crowd becomes so dense that you inevitably run into one, and they nose-butt you forward until you hit the goal ring.

I'm amazed at the reactions here. I thought everyone would be gushing about them FINALLY turning back to a serious tone for the first time in 8 years. Instead, people are complaining that this is Sonic Generations 2. Did everyone forget that Iizuka actually paused, right before the trailer, to clarify that this would not be a sequel?

Stop right there. We can't all agree. Literally there isn't a single subject we all agree on. That's not me being spiteful to the fandom, I'm just telling you that's how it is. You will need to adjust your expectations in that realm.

I want them to focus on 60 fps on consoles for this one more than I care about 3D vs 2D. That being said, I'd prefer 3D gameplay all the way.

One thing I'd like to bring up. At one point in the teaser, we see two details about the street suggesting that it has been under attack and/or abandoned for a long time.
    1. Barbed wire fencing, supported by tires.
    2. Cattails growing from the brick road. Public works would never let that fly!
Im willing to bet that the game's premise will involve Eggman already having conquered something a while before the start of the story.

I gotta admit, the "help" would've been better if it were Shadow or Tails instead of Classic Sonic, and there should've been gameplay after three years of waiting.

Okay, then put Speed Highway in the 3DS version and swap Radical Highway for Metal Harbor.

    Sonic Generations:
My favorite Sonic game overall, but what were they thinking with the stage choices? Instead of going for the wacky variety that we love about the series, they chose absolute redundancy. Imagine how much more cohesive it would've been if they'd traded Sky Sanctuary for Ice Cap Zone (and imagine the remixed music!), Speed Highway for Emerald Coast, and Seaside Hill for Casino Park. Three levels, huge improvement.

When viewed in the "soft reboot" light, I would argue that the series has had a number of soft reboots.

I still find it very hard to believe they designed Sonic Adventure to be a reboot considering it actively builds on backstory established in the Japanese manual of Sonic 3.
Then next oft-claimed "reboot" sees Shadow working as a GUN agent with Rouge, a very logical follow-on from his implied reconcilation with the GUN Commander in Shadow the Hedgehog.  2006 overall was erased but the state of the characters at the start of the story remains canon.
Like, I don't think a "reboot game" is really a reboot if nothing in THAT particular game contradicts the previous games whatsoever.  Then about five games on they fuck up some story consistency detail and are like "OH uhh WELL we uh rebooted it 4 games ago so that doesn't matter anymore".

    Schrödinger's reboot.

Pure headcanon, but I'm thinking as of Lost World, Modern Sonic is about 4 years older than Sonic circa Sonic 1 (Generations' Classic Sonic). I think the 16-bit titles and Mania take place over a year-and-a-half time frame. Half a year goes by as Sonic goes isometric and Eggman researches Chaos. Sonic Adventure takes place, and then SA2 just a month or so later (Tails being rewarded for saving Station Square is news to Eggman). This is followed by Heroes and Shadow, which also take place that year. Secret Rings happens that winter. At this point we're three years in. Unleashed happens during the following spring, followed by Black Knight and Colors early that summer. In late June, Generations takes place. In August, Lost World takes place.
    Im a psychopath.

Agreed. I've pretty much accepted that classic sonic will be here with his own stages. My only hope is that they've made a game so big that it has a huge number of Modern levels regardless. And then they ditch Classic forever.

So dimensional hopping that could cause possible legal issues and cringe? I can only see Boom happening. But I think Sonic Team doesn't want to touch Boom with a mile long stick. Bringing it in with the main series would leave a bad taste in the peoples mouth. Honestly, I'm expecting nothing less than a mediocre plot that isn't worth thinking about or remembering until we either get more details on the plot (along with the gameplay pls) or they announce Pontaff has no part in it.

We got Sonic Mania. I'm fine with Classic Sonic being just a skin. I'd be fine with it even if Mania didn't exist. But I highly doubt this is the route Sonic Team is taking. It wouldn't make much sense considering how they handled Classic Sonic the last time. Showing that he'll be in the game, side by side with his modern counterpart in the teaser tells me we'll be seeing classic with his own levels.

That I can get behind, but that's not what I'm generally hearing here. What I'm hearing that I should not hold any good expectations for the game at all, only a few negative ones. This is presented as a shield against disappointment, which is in turn presented as something that brings nothing but devastation and despair.
For reasons I elaborated on in my post, I don't believe in that or approve of the principle of that.

I obviously can't speak for everyone, but I feel keeping expectations low works out for everyone regardless of the outcome - if it's crap you have the catharsis of knowing you didn't invest much in it anyway, and if it's good it comes as a nice surprise. Or as Yahtzee puts it:

Don't worry I've got an even bigger nitpick for you; I've never actually liked Sonic's sprite in Sonic 3. I never liked it even when I was a kid, he's just way too chunky for me. I get that technically it's probably more advanced than the others but the original sprite just has more personality imo.
Also, he somehow only has 4 fingers as opposed to 5 in his Sonic 1/2/Mania sprite and that just messes with my OCD

One thing SEGA is generally good at doing is conveying the gist of their games through their teaser trailers. Sonic Colors' tone is exactly like its teaser. So is Generations, and Lost World. Precedent tells us that the overall game is probably going to reflect the teaser. We will see the "darkest of times" ie Eggman having a significant and violent foothold. We will see Sonic fighting an uphill battle this time around. He'll smile and retain that optimism and attitude, but there are bigger implications here that by nature make this darker than what we've been seeing. We aren't in space, we aren't in a white void, and we aren't on the Lost Hex. We're in the civilized world where Eggman has already gotten away with heinous things. Of course there's going to be an element of inference regarding the true extent of the damage, but a burning city very much implores one to infer. Sonic can free animals and wisps. He can't repair ruined lives.

VolatileMike reacted to Rey Skywalker-Ren in The Best Voice Acting in Sonic
For Sonic, I honestly do think Roger Craig Smith is his best voice actor for him. Mainly because of how he has the ability to emote through his voice, that and the voice pretty much fits the character. He's a confident teenager who is also cool at the same time. However, when he is disappointed or angry, you'll hear it.
