  1. I think it just stings that a lot of the aspects I liked about Mario - like uniquely designed/named Toads and members of the various enemy species - have probably been soft-retconned out existence.

    Yeah yeah, "lol Mario canon." But I got a lot of enjoyment out of the diverse and interesting world of this series and I hate how comparably limited it is now compared to how it used to be.

    It's not just that I miss characters like Goombario or Goombella; It's the sad realization that characters like that are no longer allowed to exist under Mario's current direction. That the creative Mario world I fell in love with is gone and probably isn't coming back, ever.

      I think this is an issue specifically with the RPGs because the main 3D games aren't any short in creativity. It's very bizarre.

      Most of the other Mario subseries have only gotten better about this this gen IMO so I was expecting the switch paper mario to look very different when we finally saw it.

      God, imagine a Sonic game where Sonic's only allies are like the Sonic 1 small animals. "Hi, Sonic! It's me, Flicky the Flicky!"

      That's the level of creativity we're dealing with here.
