I still think that if Sega really wanted to, that we could've had a "Griffith-like" Sonic for another decade, as Roger emulated Griffith's sound pretty well in that clip as well as in parts of Free Riders before he started developing his own sound in Colors and Generations

I honestly don't think that he sounds even slightly Griffith-like here, unless you mean putting inflections on seemingly random syllables that almost makes him sound a little drunk. It sounds like Smith might be trying to imitate that here, and sounds worse for it. Griffith just did not do a good Sonic. I'm glad that Smith is nothing like him.

I got my Pfizer jab yesterday and I feel completely normal. Quite strange, indeed. The positive thing here Is that a lot of people are getting their vaccine so we can beat the virus.

I'm getting mine first thing in the morning. It'll be Pfizer or Moderna (hoping for the latter, not that it really matters).

Arm was quite swollen within the first 24 hours but eased off over the next 2 days. 

The first Pfizer shot didn't give me any side effects besides a sore arm. The second shot knocked me down for a couple of days.

No. We have no idea how old the previous press release was. The trailer dates back as far as June last year because such materials are made very far in advance, but the press release was likely written up much more recently.

There's no actual indication that SEGA had ever planned a reveal last year. I think it was probably supposed to launch in 2021 originally too, but SEGA quite quickly delayed a ton of projects when the pandemic brought the world to a halt.

It's a great track. Mania so easily has the most enjoyable Special Stages in the entire series.

Yeah. It's a tale as old as time, yet I'm not feeling the schadenfreude that I did with Keiji Inafune or Yoshio Sakamoto. I just hope nothing comes out of the post-mortem development analysis that would make me dislike Naka, because right now, he merely seems misguided.

Naka was always mixed in terms of his work so it wasn't quite fall from grace but more levelled out if you look into his backstory a bit more. His hits that he was involved with are well known and was a good programmer even though the last time that he worked on a game at that level was NiGHTS (technically Christmas NiGHTS) however Balan was his first more hands on role since Chu Chu Rocket.

He was personally involved with clunkers such as Super Thunder Blade and F-16 Fighting Falcon (aka let's put a SG-1000/SC-3000 game on the Master System and have a fancy title screen). Plus a lot of stuff that he was credited in, he was barely involved with and if he was involved it was more or less the person in between the higher ups and the production staff. Now that would be interesting to know but we'll doubt that we would get to know anyone who experienced Naka as a producer...

He always seemed to be ruled with a mindset of hubris. And given how he doesn't seem the best fit to run a company or head a project, I never had high hopes for Balan.

I'm not sure if this is credible or not, I don't know really, but please, tell me that the 2D game is a "Sonic Advance 4" kind of game and the full original Advance cast is playable along with Blaze and maybe someone else. If that is true, I would be more hyped for that game than for the 3D one.

But it might be all fake so I prefer to not hype at all for now.

Not doing more with classic Sonic would be a mistake of monumental proportions. Sure, the fans are putting out amazing stuff to fill the void, but why have Sonic fans enjoy new classic games for free when you can get them to make OFFICIAL games for you for lots of easy money? BAFFLINGLY easy money.

If Sega wants fans to cast aside their love for classic Sonic, then they're going to have to work some miracles with modern Sonic to get it even close to that level of quality.

eh, that talk about the olympics has me prone to call this out as fake. (and given what that reporting said about dimps possibly being brought back, holy shit do i hope it is just BS. that's just as bad if not worse than the genesis sonic stuff.)

when sega opts for the rights to make olympic games, that stuff is usually settled well in advance before the actual date. sega's deal with the IOC to make games for the tokyo 2020 event was inked all the way back in 2016. the original deal sega made for the 2008 games were settled near the end of 2005.

that's not to say agreements reached closer to the release date aren't a thing. sega got the rights for the 2010 games in early 2009. ubisoft announced their 2018 winter olympics expansion for steep at e3 2017. but i'd note the quick 2010 greenlight made sense due to the massive success of the 2008 games; and a game expansion =/= an entire game (or set of games).

the muted reception/launch of both of sega's tokyo 2020 games and the games being undercut by the pandemic pushing back the actual events (to the point of possible cancellation) has me skeptical of sega really striving for getting the 2022 license. the M&S series had enough diminishing returns with 2014 and 2016 games that sega sat 2018 out to begin with.

that and if we really get into the nitty gritty of sega's development studios, sonic team has only been a label for a long time now. sonic team hasn't been an standalone department within sega since the 2009 restructure.

@PC the Hedgehog honestly, that kinda baffles me too. it's like if that's how you really feel about that part of the franchise; then things should had gone down a very different path instead of what we have now. mania and everything associated with it shouldn't exist based on that mentality.

e: i've been admittedly going back and forth over that "news" for a while with my edits, my final takeaway on that point is this. i think classic sonic is looking likely to shelved regardless if this rumor is true or not. it's just this rumor's supposed reasoning for it happening doesn't add up at all; based on how sega themselves have handled the game's production and release.

Sega has promised some variant of "the next Sonic game will go back to the franchise's roots" over and over since the mid-00s.

Them saying "The next game will be good, we really mean it this time" is a time-honored tradition at this point.

Just in general really, not so much with just Sonic. We're now getting games to IP's they've not touched in years, English dubs for Judgment and Yakuza Like a Dragon, the Mega Drive mini was actually decent, so I'm being optimistic that they want to get Sonic back on track.

A hands-on with Sonic Puyo Puyo definitely seems like a good bet now. I'd say it's either that or some nify merch that'll then go up on the SEGA Shop.

If the thing was definitely going to be Sonic-related, which it could well not be, the absolute most they'd announce here is some sort of PC port. From memory I think Lost World's PC port  announcement and release was relatively understated?
