Please, "Did you know that Mario 2 is actually Doki Doki Panic" is old news, the new hotness is "Doki Doki Panic started development as a tech demo for potential new Mario game but was turned into Doki Doki Panic following a licensing deal, thus Mario 2 was Mario 2 all along".

Lost Levels is underrated though.  The level design was way more adventorous and has more in common with modern Mario level design than Mario 1 did in terms of variety.  Unfortunately it just also has a few levels with utterly insanely obnoxious mean tricks too.  It really was built for players who had mastered Mario 1 and absolutely no-one else.

Controversial as it is, I think if Forces ditched Classic Sonic altogether and focused instead on a dichotomy between Sonic and your fancharacter, it might have left a stronger impression. Less dev time devoted to making C.Sonic work and giving him a handful of levels could have bolstered everything else.
It's all a what-if scenario, but personally I'd be curious to see how that could have affected the end product. I might have given it a spin, then.

JezMM got a reaction from Supah Berry in What's your favourite one of the extra game styles in Super Mario Maker 2? You can ch
The Zelda and Mario 2 Mushroom stuff could have added so much if they hadn't tied them to being power-ups - designing levels that require their abilities means you either have to give the player infinite health or one-hit kills (by making losing the power-up force them to start over).  Really stifles how fun they are to use.
Also the Mario 2 ability makes you have to hold down the button to keep hold of an enemy (releasing throws them) and it's a nightmare if you're used to the original game's controls.

JezMM got a reaction from Supah Berry in Lola's redesign for Space Jam 2 was revealed a while ago It's amazing how there's onl
Even as someone who absolutely thought Lola Bunny was hot as hell when I was a kid and spends half their free time drawing sexy pin-up girls, AND thinks that the idea of having a sexy character design for the sake of sexiness is fine because sex is fun and people should be allowed to enjoy it (see: people complaining about Pyra's design again now that she's been added to Smash lol) - I am baffled by why people care about this at all.
Lola having boobs or not really should not matter at all as to whether you enjoy a family cartoon movie.  Literally the furthest the thought should get is "oh they toned down her body shape, that's a shame for me personally coz I preferred the sexy look coz I like sexy things, but this is primarily a kids property and times have changed".  Nothing worth sending down the arms towards the keyboard about.
To be honest all I keep thinking when I see this art around is that I really don't care for the look of their new team uniforms, the design feels less cool than the simple white look they had in the first movie.

JezMM reacted to Blue Blood in Opinions on Sonic Lost World?
Many of its ideas are worth coming back to, but it didn't suffer simply from "first game syndrome" as someone on Retro said. When I think of first game syndrome, I think of features and ideas that need to smoothed out and tweaked to fix up. Keep trying and you'll get better, you know? But when I think of Lost World,  it's like they set out to make a cake using sand and salt instead flour and sugar. You can tweak the quantity of the ingredients as much as you like, but you're never going to make a good cake with those ingredients.
Run button = bad, but an accelerate button might be okay
    Binary movement system  = bad
Homing kick = potentially alright, but pulled off poorly and it doesn't add much even when you know when to use it
Parkour = Brilliant idea, but nothing was good about the execution
    Gimmick levels = bad
    Cylindrical levels = why?
Infinite spindash = basically a retooled boost and potentially fun, but needs work
Lost World also very rarely feels like a Sonic game. The movement is generally sluggish and it makes almost no use of momentum and inertia at all.

I kinda dislike this art just on principle, the juxtoposition of angry 2kool4skool Sonic Forces esque Sonic art with cheery Green Hill backdrop is just so weird.  If this is for kids' merch just go all-in on the modern Sonic aesthetic, please.

JezMM reacted to Ryannumber1gamer in Welp, I guess I'm binging Scrubs on Disney+ now inbetween P5 Strikers sessions. I onl
Back in 2013 or 2014, I used to watch Scrubs non-stop, Netflix UK had the first five seasons, and once I started, I just couldn't stop, it immediately shot up to one of my favourite comedy shows, and episodes like My Screw-Up, My Cake, My Lunch, and My Fallen Idol became some of my favourite TV episodes.
I still remember my jaw dropping when My Screw-Up played for the first time, and it got to the twist at the end. I think I ended up watching it another two times over to catch all the foreshadowing and such.
Unfortunately, Netflix UK didn't have Seasons 6-9. I think they got Season 6 at one point, but not for very long. Season 7, I got on DVD when I found it for like £1 in a second-hand shop.
But Seasons 1-5, I was all over it, binged it multiple times until it was eventually removed, so I was completely on-board as soon as I heard it was gonna be included as part of Disney+ Star over here. I am absolutely hyped to finally see the full show. I've had the complete series for awhile on DVD, but didn't get around to watching through them yet, so Disney+ getting the episodes makes it a lot handier since I can just throw it onto a tablet and watch it while doing other things.
That podcast sounds really interesting too. Zach and Donald easily has one of the best chemistries on the show, so I'd definitely be interested in hearing them talk about the episodes, especially the heavier ones, so I'll definitely have to give it a watch at some point.

Ahh, fair you're more familiar than my comment assumed!  Yeah what I just read is that from Season 5 onwards their music licensing contracts were able to account for future technology (My Lunch is Season 5, but that scene is so iconic I'm SURE they would've fought to keep How to Save a Life lol).  I'm guessing all the songs that remain in the first four Seasons were considered too integral to NOT re-do the rights for (or were easy to re-obtain, like the Joshua Radin tracks since he's a friend of the cast).  But they didn't have the resources to re-license EVERYTHING.
If you haven't heard about it yet, Zach and Donald are currently doing a rewatch podcast that's a few seasons in now, it's been super great listening (beyond just being interesting to hear their stories and current, (completely honest thanks to not being bound by time and contracts etc) opinions about the show, Zach and Donald have fantastic hosting chemistry together, it's frequently a really funny listen).  Look up "Fake Doctors, Real Friends" if it sounds like your cup of tea.

JezMM got a reaction from Supah Berry in Someone explain to me why the Persona series gets a free pass from Western audiences
As someone who doesn't really have the time to play every long JRPG release to find out which ones might appeal to me, if I'm gonna play one, it'll be the one with the really cool art and music and high production values.
Everything in that Nintendo Direct, as an example, looked like generic fantasy settings, nostalgic throwbacks (that I have no nostalgia for coz I didn't grow up with those kinds of RPG games) or like a less cool version of Persona 5 (the art style of At World's End didn't really appeal to me).
But yeah, I think Persona also has a really big strength in also being a sort of slice-of-life game where you get to see the characters also just trying to live their normal lives between all the heroism, and the two sides of the story stay linked in both narrative and gameplay.  That's the sort of thing that elevates a JRPG from feeling generic to being investable to someone like myself who doesn't consider themselves a fan of JPRGs.

I find it weird that OP refers to it as a waifu simulator too... I've only played P5, but as far as I can tell each game usually has like, one character who has a fanservice look and the rest are usually fairly modest.  The only reason they get sexualised en masse is because they're female anime girls and that's what fanbases do.  And even the "sexy" characters always felt somewhat grounded to be honest (a far cry from say Xenoblade 2 where, much as I love her design, when I learned that Pyra's character designer was also a known hentai artist I was like "ah yeah that adds up" lol). The age issue is legit in places though, I really wouldn't have minded if they had localised out the ability to romance Futaba, squick.
