Oh yeah I completely glossed over all the aesthetically unique aspects of the game that can patch up the difference between someone who enjoys the game casually and someone who hardcore loves the design philosophies to make either one cite it as one of the best.

(I also love the boss battles in concept but wish they were better in execution lol.)

I don't think Sonic CD is as popular as some people think it is.  Most fans who enjoy it do so as a novelty - it's a bit familiar, a bit different, from the style than the main trilogy + mania go for.  Those who consider it the best the franchise have to offer are those who enjoy the difficulty of making the best of the challenging terrain.
Where most Sonic games add difficulty with traditional platforming tricks and traps admist the momentum-based playgrounds, where the failure state is dying or getting hit, CD instead injects its challenge directly into said playgrounds by the way they are built, where the failure state is losing momentum and being tossed where you didn't intend to go - be that into hazards or not.
Unfortunately that means that for a lot of players who either don't enjoy/accept that design philosophy or do but haven't gotten to grips with it yet... a regular playthrough involves being constantly in that failure state for most of the experience, which is (completely justifiably) miserable.
But yeah, as said, I've always felt like it's a polarising game.  Until the 2011 remake, it was considered a lost gem in the franchise, and is fast heading that way again thanks to the remake falling out of relevancy too.  It's certainly nowhere near as popular as the other common "best games" cited by players, Sonic 2, 3&K and Mania.  I'd even say it's probably less popular than modern Sonic "best game" choices like Adventure 2, Colours or Generations.

^ To be fair, those are entirely optional.  Still terrible content but optional (actually the fact that Mario Sunshine has such a broad difference between mandatory and optional content, unlike 64, was one of it's biggest downgrades).
Regarding the Manta Ray Boss, there is a knack to it.  In terms of Sirenna Beach, I found the puzzley episode 3 much more of a roadblock back on my first play when it came out.  And in terms of "did they even playtest this!?" I'd say that award goes to the Watermelon Festival.  ...And the ones Crow mentioned.

JezMM got a reaction from PC the Hedgehog in I realize it's about as dead of a horse as it can be, but did they like, forego havin
Tbh I never quite understood this criticism because I never felt cut-scene starved in Forces. It's not like the dialogue would've been any more interesting if it happened with fully animated cut-scenes, aside from maybe Episode Shadow which definitely came off awkward thanks to only having one proper cut-scene.
Most of the time the talking heads stuff was only used for pure exposition.

JezMM got a reaction from LeviTheGreat in An interviewer for Polygon squeezed Doug Bowser for answers on the limited release fi
I read the original article for myself first before seeing what the video creator had to say, but the entire interview was just a bunch of PR non-answers, despite an excellent attempt at probing questions on the interviewer's side.  Doug basically just said "nothing to say at this time" when Russ asked him "okay I get it but what about people who buy a switch in June and want to buy Mario 3D All-Stars?"
I think the video creator is reaching and just projecting their desire for the games not to be discontinued onto the, again, total non-answer.  The context for "after March" was laid out by Russ' initial question, so Doug was still just speaking to that note in his follow-up answer.

JezMM got a reaction from PC the Hedgehog in So as a follow up to yesterday's update, what's the best designed 3D Sonic level?
Definitely a big fan of Seaside Hill in Generations as far as a concept for sprawling wide levels in boost-formula go.  Having said that I'm also very fond of Skyscraper Scamper in Unleashed for boost gameplay that still has multiple routes but also feels focused, thrilling but also challenging, no matter which one you take.

JezMM got a reaction from StaticMania in Twitch removing the "blind playthrough" tag is one of the stupidest things that I've
Looking into tweets and such about it, I'm seeing a lot of people who are blind or partially sighted complaining that this is completely useless when what would actually help is more accessibility features for them on Twitch like contrast and text size settings etc.  Fighting tiny little battles like this makes the entire effort of fight ableism look like a joke to everyone and does more to hurt the cause than help.  A lot of these blind people say they feel like able-bodied people are just looking for clout points and trying to baby them/reduce them to their disability rather than just... letting a word be a word.

Download a free audiobook on us today  *5 seconds of unskippable silence*
Didn't the last 100 times you asked Audible, not gonna this time.

It also makes me laugh when adverts try to be cute by acknowledging the skip button, especially if they timed it badly so I still interrupt them when I push it.
I also enjoy consistently clicking "none of the above" whenever they give me a "do you know/like these brands?" survey, regardless of the truth.  Fuck their data lol.

Eh that drama was probably pretty small-scale in the grand scheme of things.  Only a select portion of the fanbase has any idea that it happened.  I'm guessing it's more that they just want to make a little extra easy cash by capitalising on this little "mini brand" they made but Tee and Jun aren't available to keep churning out remixes together so we get cheapskate efforts instead.
