  1. You might have liked it, and that's all well and good. But that's not the point. The point is, most people didn't. See: everyone on social media that was laughing at them.
  2. Because all of them were terrible. Some were less terrible than others, but all terrible nonetheless. It's not just the fans that didn't like them.
  3. If several people, including the creators of Sonic, several prolific members of the fanbase, and even a good chunk of people outside the fanbase, are telling you that your design is garbage, maybe the audience isn't the problem?
  4. Ain't it just a kick in the head that Sonic Advance 3 has some of the most awful, frustrating level design of any Sonic game, but some of the best level themes and music?

Eh, I found Advance 2 songs to be more catchy personally.

I feel the quality of the themes/music drops a little in the middle of the game (Toy Kingdom has boring music for my ears, Twinkle Snow the same and repeats a trope the first two games had, and Cyber Track has alright music but again, a retread both thematically AND musically in this case).

But the first three zones and the game's climax are amazing musically/thematically speaking for being different from the norm. I wish we had gotten a high quality OST release of the whole trilogy tbh (I know some fans have remastered the music but I mean I wanna hear everything with real instruments lol).

Granted Sunset Hill being a Green Hill retread, music included would not fly nowadays, but back then it was cool and honestly a more unique take on the old locale than most recent efforts have been.

Advance 3 was always my personal favourite of the trilogy. It's the only one I've ever been able to 100%

I never understood where people are coming from when they claim "oh yeah sunset hill's wayyyyy more creative than anything they've done with green hill nowadays" (I don't see what makes "Green Hill at sunset" any more creative than "Green Hill with sand" but I will say it's leaps and bounds ahead mechanically and musically), but it's a great level on its own.

But yeah, it's a shame such great level concepts are marred by such amateur level design. Even if it does get a bit better as it goes on.

Another excuse for me to say Sunset Hill Act 3 has my favorite green hill remix

  5. To make my point, I'm going to be sharing an anecdote from my childhood: I still remember getting my GBA SP. It was my birthday during Kindergarten and I got Sonic Advance 3 with it. I picked the family dinner that night as Rain Forest Cafe and when I unwrapped those I was absolutely over the moon, I was a child who loved everything about Sonic. I played it for the entire car ride home, and even a good chunk of the dinner. So much playing that the GBA SP died during its first time even being on. I don't think I got any further than Sunset Hill's hub but gosh that was such a magical night. The colorful, fun cast of characters, the diverse, creative worlds, an unmatched sense of speed, a (usually) rocking soundtrack...there's a lot to love with Sonic!
  6. Y'know, Mayor D mentioned it in one of his videos, but miniatures of the Mysterious Sonic Statue would actually be super awesome. Maybe the proceeds could go to restoration of the real thing if that pans out?

  7. I imagine anthros would look rather freaky in real life, but maybe that's just me and my "Never seen a bipedal, fur/scaled covered creature out and about acting as if they were human" bias.
  8. Could and would argue that Sonic is a 3-foot tall, bipedal, speedy blue hedgehog that speaks fluent English. That's pretty freakish by default.
  9. Advance 3's bosses really suck. It feels like they were designed to look cool and flashy before any thought went into making them...you know, fun to fight.

  10. I tried so hard to like Advance 3. I started a new file and gave it every chance. But holy shit. Two game overs, one from being blindsided by an enemy that didn't give me enough time to react (Sunset Hill Act 1), and the other being crushed by a Crusher Block that didn't give me enough time to make it through (Ocean Base Act 2). That's where I called it quits and closed the emulator.

Easily the most frustrating play session I've had in a while.

    1. Cayenne

You don't play Sonic Advance 3 to have fun. You play it for the pretty pixel art and to laugh at the Dimps school of bad gimmicks and abysmal level design.

Which is pretty sad because their level design in Sonic Advance 1 was pretty decent. Not perfect, but decent.

    2. Tarnish

Advance 3 was a gigantic mess when it came to the design and concept.

  11. IT Chapter 2 trailer looks great. Modern Pennywise is so aesthetically pleasing.

  12. Well RIP ProJared's career. It apparently gets much much much worse than just him cheating on his wife.

    1. PublicEnemy1

      What else happened?

    2. DreamSaturn

Put in spoilers because it's pretty NSFW:

He's apparently been sending, and soliciting nudes from fans for years, if Heidi's statement on Twitter is to be believed. She initially allowed it because it was done under the pretense of body positivity, all with consenting adults, but she later discovered that he had a Snapchat for that purpose too, and was doing it behind her back and she felt pressured to allow it.

    3. PublicEnemy1

Please tell me the fans were AT LEAST consenting age. I don't want this guy becoming a pedophile now...

    4. DreamSaturn

So far, it would seem all of them were. If there were any minors involved, they haven't come forward yet.

    5. Legendary Emerald

      Legendary Emerald

I was really worried for a second there because I mixed up The Completionist and ProJared for some reason. Now I'm just surprised that ProJared still had a career up till now.

    6. Tarnish

Oh boy, another episode of "Youtube drama: Guess who's telling the truth?"!

    7. Shiroi

@Tarnish Except in this instance it's incredibly obvious who's telling the truth. The dudes "statement" raised all the red flags it possibly could.

    8. Tarnish

@Shiroi That's a welcome change. Usually it's always just a ton of he said, she said and 'listen and believe' with no real proof on either side.

    9. Shiroi

@Tarnish I know but trust me, Jared's statement was the first thing I came across from all this. I knew nothing beforehand and even then it came across as incredibly suspicious.

  13. Normally I firmly believe that we shouldn't believe such claims without some proof, but honestly at this point I'll take any excuse for this movie to die so... Maybe that should've been a sign that they should go back to the drawing board.
  14. If I may get mushy for a second just wanna say I love SSMB and it's great

Really feel like I matter here. And that's a rad feeling, especially as someone with severe anxiety and self-esteem issues.

    1. Corviknight

Well uhhh.. Glad to hear it.

  15. It's the same thing that I hear when people tell us that we should be grateful we got a game/comic/show/movie in this case at all. Like, no. Why take a garbage movie just because it happens to be about Sonic? Why not say that garbage isn't okay and refuse to fund it?
  16. If Paramount has any sense at all, they're going to delay this movie. But considering they also looked at that naked furry gremlin man of a hedgehog and said "Yeah that's fine, everyone will love that" to begin with, well, they have more cents than they do sense.
  17. Just watch, we're going to see Youtube Movie Critics and Arin Hanson wearing this when the movie comes out, mark my words.
  18. I can't believe they're missing the perfect opportunity to release the new HP Lovecraft horror during the Halloween season.
  19. Level-headed, critical thinking Saturn: Sonic Advance 3 is a poorly designed, often frustrating game.

Also Saturn: Yeah but the MUSIC SLAPS

    1. Blacklightning

Isn't it kinda crazy that Chaos Angel has some of the worst level design in the history of the franchise but one of the best level themes to feature in it

    2. Tarnish

Ah, Sonic games of the early to mid 2000s...when at least the music was good. (Recalls the headbanging version of Green Hill Zone in Sonic Battle.)

    3. Kuzu the Boloedge
  20. Huh, so there was supposed to be a live-action CG hybrid Sonic movie in the 90's? Apparently to advertise Sonic X-Treme. (See PatMac's new video)

Well, at least this movie isn't trying to advertise a game, right

    1. Ferno
    2. Blacklightning

You know it actually just occured to me that I haven't seen a licensed tie in game for anything in ages.

    3. Ferno

its because smartphone mobile gaming became a thing, now said licensed games don't even have to try as hard (in terms of making full console games) for quick tie-in cash now

  21. Their excitement is meaningless because 1) we still don't know what their role is and 2) they can still suck.
  22. So the 30th anniversary Sonic game will be good, right? There's simply no way Sega/Sonic Team would screw up on such a monumental occasion right? RIGHT?

    1. Kuzu the Boloedge

      Kuzu the Boloedge

      What od you think

    2. TheOcelot

Hopefully SEGA/Sonic Team won't make the 30th anniversary game. Perhaps Evening Star Studio will 😋

  23. It is rather upsetting to me personally that they find a role for a rapper that the target audience sure doesn't know, let alone or care about, but couldn't even contact Yuji Naka, one of three men who are pretty much the only reason this franchise ever got off the ground, for a small cameo.
  24. Yeah, I'm doubting that "all just a stunt" theory myself, too. There's no way they would spend millions on the art, animation, promotional material and merchandise, all just for that to be an elaborate trick. That doesn't make sense.
