  1. I think I can see why they ultimately recast Harley Quinn after Arkham Asylum, Arleen Sorkin sounds super tired and strained

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

Pretty sure she wasn’t recast, she just chose to retire following Asylum.

    2. SaturnWolf

      In 2011, yeah

But that was when Arkham City released so the voice over was likely recorded in late 2010 or so

    3. Ryannumber1gamer

Given DCUO is a MMO, I’d imagine it was in development for awhile and voice recording was done around the time as Asylum. I’m pretty sure she had stopped VA work for awhile prior to Asylum, and came back one last time for it.

  2. Gotta wonder what Evening Star is up to? I doubt it's anything related to Sonic, but they also haven't really given any major updates

Their last Twitter post is from like, almost 2 years ago, too

  3. I only work in black

And sometimes very, very dark gray

  4. As expected it sounds like Mike isn't going anywhere

    1. Tarnish

Damnit...was hoping he'd get replaced by Jim Carrey.

    2. Your Vest Friend

      Your Vest Friend

Why the hell would Jim Carrey ever be a replacement? The reason Ben Schwartz is on the table at all is because he has a history in VA work in both film and television.

    3. Tarnish

Well, if they ever wanted some consistency with the movie...and since everybody was pissing themselves at how good he was as Eggman.

  5. I don't hate the guy, but honestly Roger's Sonic never clicked with me. I always thought he sounded way too old and he sounded out of breath half the time

  6. We're about to see a lot of kids become very confused and or angry about the voice cast change

It happened when we switched to the 4Kids cast, it happened when we switched to Studiopolis, and well, history repeats itself

    1. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

The kids already had to endure seeing four different Sonic designs running around, two of which sharing the same screen at two points

  7. The Balan Wonderland demo is very.....eh at best and kinda baffling at worst

    1. pppp

      Why what's wrong with it?

    2. SaturnWolf

As far as the Switch version goes, low quality textures, heavy aliasing, and it lags a lot, like, a lot a lot, averaging around 15-20 fps

    3. pppp

Oh so it's just the Switch version running poorly?

    4. SaturnWolf

I haven't tried the other versions yet or looked much into them, but yeah, it runs poorly, and as far as gameplay goes, it feels like a kinda weirdly cobbled together tribute to NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure in a blend that doesn't entirely work

    5. neezTHEhuman

kinda expecting this but still disappointed.

    6. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

I've only watched the Switch footage so far. Looks dreadful on Switch, but even aside from that it doesn't actually look like a very good game.

    7. PC the Hedgehog

      PC the Hedgehog

Haven't played it myself yet, but from the videos I've seen, it looks really, really boring. I've gone from 'cautiously optimistic' to just plain 'cautious.' Really hope the game picks up.

    8. Kuzu

...This is starting to feel very appropriately like an average Sonic game cycle.

  8. Hahaha, oh man, re-watching Johnny's '06 review and I love that SSMB theme near the end

  9. Much like Kingdom Hearts, I find Sonic lore much less headache inducing if you just nod your head and say "Yeah that totally makes sense!" even though I know damn well it doesn't

    1. Ryannumber1gamer

I don’t think Kingdom Hearts’ lore got particularly bad until it got to DDD, and even then I think the downfall was time travel.

Everything before that, I don’t think it’s that hard to get, there’s a few minor retcons here and there, but nothing terrible that screws with the lore. I think DDD even had a few decent lore ideas like dreaming worlds, nobodies regaining their hearts and Xehanort splitting his heart into various vessels. It’s just...there’s no way to justify the time travel nonsense and it’s not remotely explained well whatsoever.

and unfortunately, 3 and MoM suffers from it more and more, especially since Nomura is so salty over VS 13 that he’s determined to turn Kingdom Hearts into some crappy pseudo Versus 13. I love a lot of the original KH elements, and characters like Roxas are among my favourites ever, but the unreality, Verum Rex bullshit is more or less my tipping point. I wanted to slam my head into a desk as soon as I heard that the fictional realm is a fucking thing in MoM.

    2. DanJ86

Sonic lore is a broken mess and I've come to terms with that. I've become so numb to it that I don't react anymore and if I do react, it's just a simple roll of the eyes.

This is strange since with any other series like for example, Mortal Kombat, I'd get so angry at the constant retcons, character inconsistencies, ideas that go nowhere and a narrative choice that makes the villains seem more like jobbers than an actual threat. Bizarre coincidence that MKs lore became damaged beyond repair when time travel was incorporated too.

    3. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

Sonic (games at least) could be much more comprehensible if they'd just fix a few big things about it; nothing compare to the deliberately twisty turny KH lore. I will give KH one thing, at least it never thought to just throw out all those risks it took and reduce the story and writing to mere random potty humor like Sonic did. The quality in story may have still suffered, but at least I'd say it still has some "dignity" in playing it whole fanfic vibe with a straight face.

  10. Christ the Michael Keaton Batsuit looks uncomfortable, looks like he can't even turn his neck

    1. Chili Dawg

      Chili Dawg

I will bring all criminals to justice...

just don't make me look behind me

    2. The Master

      The Master

He couldn't. Thats why he dramatically turns every time he has to look elsewhere.

The Dark Knight had Lucius and Bruce take a small jab at it when designing the new suit.

  11. So when a Sonictuber says they have "confirmed sources", it's safe to dismiss everything they say as grade A bullshit, right? Because the usual suspects are doing that

    1. Zaysho

Are Sonictubers anything like the Smashtubers that are constantly begging for news and report on whatever rumors have the most traction on 4chan?

      Then yes.

    2. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

At least with Smash, it can to be fun to watch how far people go to try and bait people with overly elaborate "leaks" of the characters they'd want, regardless of how belivable the end result ends up being. They put needlessly too much talent in drawing or even modeling a render to take a blurry photo out of. And there is still some truth behind all this; many real fighters had been popular choices amongst leakers before they got picked.

Sonic leaks all look the same, have no effort put into photo/video evidence, and are just plain embarassing.

  12. Well, looks like that redemption didn't last too long

Our wedding planning friend tried to make a comeback, and he did for a while, but it looks like he's banned again unless I'm misreading things

    3. Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

      Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

Hmm. Haven't seen any sign that he's banned. What was your hint?

    4. SaturnWolf

Looking at my follower list, he's sort of faded out just like Levi before him

Unless I am dumb and that does not mean he was banned, which is entirely possible, but I remember it being more solid like every other slot before

    5. Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

      Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

Faded out usually just means he's listed as an anonymous follower.

  13. I think one day I'd like to do a video on the XBLA demo for '06 to try and dispel the rumors about it being "better" than retail

Retail did improve some things from it, believe it or not. Camera is significantly more sluggish in the demo, there's a really weird score overflow glitch and collision is like, a billion times worse

    1. pppp

The light dash in the demo is much better though, it works exactly like SA2. There's also less slowdown.

    2. Blue Blood

      Blue Blood

It's certainly not better, but it is interesting and has some differences that are better. For one, the air dash has an arc to it in the demo. That's very useful for platforming and resembles every other game before it, unlike the final where you drop straight down (unless you use the white gem).

On the flipside, you can clip through any wall without fail just by spindashing next to it. The final game is obviously stupidly buggy, but it at least managed to fix that.

  14. Don't wanna get my hopes up too high for this news of a supposed new KotOR game

I've been in this fandom for a long time and have seen a lot of reboot/remake/sequel rumors come and go, and nothing ever comes of them. Not to mention, I just don't think the magic of the original could be recreated today

    1. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

Aren't they already rolling out the whole High Republic thing as the new "Golden Age of the Republic and Jedi" thing? Sure, it does take place much later than Old Republic so it's possible they can coexist, but I feel it risk confusing the ʳᵉpublic with two different "Republic" franchises if a new game releases along side the former.

  15. Hearing Sonic 3 AIR now works on Switch kinda makes me wanna splurge a little and get a modded Switch just to have the best versions of the Classic Sonic games available to me basically whenever I want

    1. Rusty Spy

      Rusty Spy

Yeah it's basically the re-release of Sonic 3 that I've always wanted, but Switch hacking just looks like too much of a hassle to make it worth it.

  16. Honestly Arkham Origins isn't so bad. It's super derivative of City and doesn't really do anything "new" but Mr. Freeze in City not withstanding, Origins probably has the best boss fights of all the Arkham games

    1. Strickerx5

It was more Arkham city which, even at the time, I was 100% down for.

To me, it easily has the most kinetic story in the series. Also, the remote grapple is the best gadget ever and I'm still mad they didn't bring it into Knight.

  17. I forgot how very...not good the bosses of Arkham Asylum are, Scarecrow sequences not withstanding

  18. Gotta feel bad for Chris Senn. Dude works himself nearly to death on X-Treme, that never comes out, then he finally gets another shot at the franchise with Rise of Lyric, which goes on to be one of the most reviled games in the franchise

    1. Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

      Jovahexeon Jax Joranvexeon

He seriously worked on BOTH those projects? That's some crap luck.

  19. It's kinda disappointing that most of the story DLC for Arkham Knight is like, 10 minutes long

Matter of Family is a bit meatier, which I'm fine with, I have a huge softspot for Batgirl, but I would've liked to play her and the rest of the Bat Family free roam without mods

    1. Strickerx5

For me, the Season of Infamy DLC was top. While each side quest isn't all that long, all of them combined did a lot to make the side missions feel more substantial in the main game (which was one of my biggest problems with the base game).

  20. And at the end of fear, oblivion

Ah yes, the hardest consumer's greatest fear and foe:

      horse armor.

  21. Seeing Bruce Wayne in the Batman Beyond suit as opposed to Terry McGinnis is a thing that shouldn't be weird but still feels super weird to me

  22. Happy belated birthday, my friend

I hope you're doing well, wherever you are

  23. So weird to me that Generations 3DS doesn't really pay tribute to Sonic's handheld history, outside of what, one level in Water Palace? Give me some Sunset Park and Music Plant, damn it

    1. Harkofthewaa

That and one of the acts of Tropical Resort is pixel by pixel ripped straight from Act 1 of Colors DS. Can't remember which though.

    2. Sega DogTagz

      Sega DogTagz

I think that was just a homage, done moreso to keep up with recent traditions. Rush Adventure did the same thing. One of the hidden islands in SRA is a perfect remake of Leaf Storm 1 from the original Rush. the only difference is a background swap.

    3. SaturnWolf

Pretty lame homage, if you ask me

At the very least there's no shortage of mods for basically every level ever on PC

    4. Plumbers_Helper

In an interview with Takashi Iizuka prior to the game's release, it sounded like levels from the DS and GBA were at least considered for the game.

Can you discuss what systems will be represented on the 3DS version such as Game Gear?

Game Gear? (Laughter) No. For the 3DS we wanted to go with systems of more recent memory. So we are more focused on levels from the GBA and DS.

    5. Sega DogTagz

      Sega DogTagz

@SaturnWolf I thought it was slick, because it wasn't advertised.

You just discover and boot up hidden Island 16, start the level, and then get blindsided by deja-vu 5 or 6 seconds into the stage.

As someone who has speedrun Leaf Storm quite a bit, it was a pretty cool feeling to all of a sudden find yourself back in familiar stomping grounds. Especially so considering the level is an extra bonus for dedicated players. The people who scour the map for all the hidden islands are the very same people who would have enough of a feel for Leaf Storm to recognize the level in a different coat of paint.

Thats like a blue whale sized easter egg

  24. So with dems controlling the Senate now, is it safe to assume Trump is much more likely to be impeached?
Which, yeah kinda late but hey, if it means he can't run again, I'll take what victories can be gotten

    1. Winston

Just because Dems control it doesn't necessarily mean he'll be convicted and barred from running for public office again. It's more likely than before, but they do need two-thirds, so I think they'd need like 17-18 Republicans to vote with them. The House only requires a simple majority to impeach. McConnell basically gave the okay to it though with his statement saying that it was directly Trump's fault for the insurrection, so maybe a lot of Republicans will vote for it? I know Romney will, so that's one.

    2. Ryannumber1gamer

I don't know much about it, but I read on BBC News that they'd need 18 republicans to vote for impeachment to meet the 2/3 required threshold.

But that said, between inciting the riot, and costing the Republicans that Senate election by constantly claiming vote fraud, I have a feeling that not many are going to be very willing to stand by him this time around.

    3. Wittymations

Winston and Ryan pretty much hit the nail on the head.

The thing that really changes is now the Senate trial can actually have fair rules. With Republicans in control, they did everything they could to shield Trump, even not allowing witnesses.

That won't be the case this time. It'll be more exposed to the public.

I don't think it's still going to be enough. Short of Trump being recorded murdering someone (and even then it'd depend on who he murdered) I don't think it's going to change the partisan outcome.

Also, I'm a stickler, impeachment is the trial itself. Conviction is what the Senate votes on.

  25. Y'know why do the Master System and Game Gear versions have some musical differences? It's nothing major, just the bosses and intro as far as I can tell, but like

    1. JezMM

Are we talking Sonic 2 here?  If so yeah it's bizarre and I'd love to know the reason why lol.  The intro change makes sense, the cheerful main theme playing during Tails' kidnap was a bit unusual.  As for the boss theme, the Game Gear one is really similar in structure to the Master System one so maybe they just wanted a do-over or it sounded a bit too chaotic and industrial coming out of the tinny Game Gear speakers (the GG version is a little more melodic).

The only other musical change is that the Good Ending on Game Gear has a unique theme that was present in the files but went unused on Master System.  It's a solid tune and much less melancholy than the original (now "Bad") Ending theme, but not gonna lie, said Ending theme is an absolute classic for me, I'm fine with it being used for both on Master System.  It's melancholy but in a kind of hopeful/uplifting way that works for both contexts.  The ending on Game Gear also adds a little musical jingle to the final moment after the credits (which interestingly enough replaced another completely unused song on the Master System version in the game's code).

    2. Supah Berry

      Supah Berry

The different boss theme is to warn players they are player the bullshit hard infirior version of the first boss.

Seriously speaking, I did feel between the two boss themes, the MS version fits more as final boss music, something that fan remaster agreed with since it was used as such there.
