Go on and get involved. If it lets you really get comfortable and feel like you then it's only a good thing.
Caution is good but don't let it hold you back.

Shyness can be quite an inhibitor but don’t let it keep you from living and enjoying your life. Sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone and in situations like this is bound to pay off.
And if it doesn’t at least you tried and you won’t be plagued with “what if” had you done nothing at all which is an awful feeling.
