  1. I'm glad Ben likes it and happy birthday to him and all, but I don't know how many times we have to repeat that "Person attached to project insists it's good" isn't a topic worth discussing
  2. Interview Saturday.

    We're in the endgame now.

  3. Classic Sonic in Forces feels like such an 11th hour addition. Like, he has zero significance to anything in the plot, four levels, and like...one boss? And another that's virtually just a reskin of that one?

    1. Ferno

      Ferno

Even more obvious in that in Fist Bump, the lyrics only ever mention two people, the player and sonic, but never factors in classic sonic, like the singer never says "the three of us" or anything like that

Ther probablay could ahve fixed or at least martginally improved the Avatar and Modern if they hadn't put time into Classic tbh.

edit: They probably could have fixed or at least marginally improved the Avatar and Modern if they hadn't put time into Classic tbh.

  4. Wow, Dimps...REALLY loved making the Chaos Emeralds just not worth the trouble of getting

  5. Well, we don't know how much Tyson was involved, but if he was given the proper creative freedom, I'm sure the design itself will look decent...in 2D art, anyway. But that unfortunately doesn't mean anything if the model itself is uncanny, creepy garbage like the last one.
  6. I will absolutely not see the Joker movie unless he has a monologue about how we do, in fact, live in a society

  7. Normally I would agree, but the problem with that is that creates a slippery slope. What someone does in their personal life, is, of course, their business. But if they're a liar, cheater, sending nudes to minors (Yes, we've established that he didn't KNOW they were minors, but he is still a moron for not considering how easy it is to lie about your age on the internet), or doing scummy things all around, that's a bit of an issue for me, and, by the reaction to the ordeal at large, it's also an issue for many people. But, of course, conversely, there are people who don't care at all, which is also fine. Some people just want to watch the content and don't really care who makes it, which, I admire your ability to separate the artist from the art.
  8. That's just the thing about becoming a public figure, whether you want it or not, people are going to hold you up as a "role model" as you put it. As for why everyone is so angry, it's because cheating is an incredibly scummy and shitty thing to do, (not that I have much sympathy for Heidi either) and it makes it all the stranger that he waited months to say anything, on top of redirecting blame yet again.
  9. Sonic Adventure DX (PC) is just about driving me up the wall.

Ever since a few days ago, basically everything I do just makes the game crash.

I made sure all the mods are up to date (mod loader included), tried running the game in windowed mode, tried running it in different resolutions, tried doing a complete, clean, re-install, tried verifying the integrity of the game files, tried running it without mods, tried disabling Steam, NVidia's, and Discord's overlays, and nothing works.

  11. Truth be told I haven't seen enough of Boom to give an opinion on the show either way, (Well that's not entirely true, I've caught a few episodes but didn't care for the comedy direction) but there's also the entire Ken Penders era of the Archie comics which...yikes those got super dumb and bad.
  12. Well, yeah, there was Boom, but there's also the super popular SatAM, Sonic Mania...sure, the West DEFINITELY has had it's missteps with Sonic, but the success of Sonic Mania is going to be super hard to ignore. Sonic has always been more successful in the West, as has been established an innumerable amount of times, so focusing more on the Western market only makes sense.
  13. Man the Time Eater fight feels so super tacked on, gameplay and storywise. The Egg Dragoon feels way more like a final battle.

    1. Tangled Jack

      Tangled Jack

Of course. Egg Dragoon in Gens is one of my all fime favorite bosses in Sonic. Time Eater... Meh, they always experiment in extra battles without substance and effort.

    2. I Have Berry!

      I Have Berry!

I see that boss as a personification of all the bad moments in the series; from sudden gameplay changes with poor execution, to completely useless side characters who never shut up. (Even if you disable tutorials, which is basically what that is.) It's like after being rewarded with the rest of the game that brings out the Best of Sonic, we have to pay for it by dealing with all the worst aspects rolled into one.

Frankly, it's also eerily prophetic for what happens to the franchise after this game: More bad gameplay, characters and junk. What a way to finish off a beautiful celebration of Sonic's past by giving players a glimpse into his "bright, sparkling" future.

    3. Ferno

      Ferno

was kinda nice seeing the Egg Dragoon fight in the way that Eggman probably originally intended it to. I remember reading in Unleashed's Eggman machine bios that he build it as the ultimate fighting machine against sonic or whatever but never accounted for the Werehog when building it originally, which is why it was easily torn apart by Sonic in that form. But in Gens its like Eggman technically has the upperhand that go around

  14. Why didn't Scar just kill Simba when he was mourning over Mufasa's corpse

There were no witnesses and it's not like he had some moral objections to killing a child, he was trying to do that before he killed Mufasa anyway

    1. Diogenes

      Diogenes

couldn't make it look clean. mufasa fell and got trampled, looks like an accident. mauling simba himself would leave too much evidence and another "accident" would be suspicious.

also doesn't he sic the hyenas on simba anyway

    2. Tails spin

      Tails spin

He does tell the hyenas to kill simba. Then the hyenas lie to Scar. Scar tells the pride both the king and crown prince died. He even looks at the hyenas saying I thought you were dead when Simba returned

    3. SenEDDtor Missile

      SenEDDtor Missile

@Diogenes what if he Stepped on Simba’s Head/throat and choke him to death?

    4. Diogenes

      Diogenes

in that case the lion crime scene investigators would surely notice the lack of hoofprints or related trauma and investigate further.

really the point isn't that there would be no possible way for scar to get away with killing him, but that he had ways of getting rid of him without (further) dirtying his hands

    5. SenEDDtor Missile

      SenEDDtor Missile

@Diogenes If there isn’t a lion who does the police siren. And there isn’t a ticker tape made from grass surrounding the crime scene, I’m gonna be mad.

  15. Eh, kinda? Like @Mad Convoy mentioned, it's sort of hard to measure how big a fandom is. Sure, most Sonic fans do buy the games, but there's also a sizable section of the fandom that doesn't or can't for any number of reasons. There's also small children who are fans that, if they or their guardian(s) are smart, won't be interacting with anyone online until they're old enough to know what kind of things go on online. The short of it is, there's a lot of people we simply can't account for. Another factor to consider is, as others have mentioned: Forums in general are kind of dying as a medium. Sure, places like this still stand, but it's far from bustling with activity outside of like, the Sonic movie thread, but even then that just boils down to a few regulars and a few others who wander in every now and then. I'm sure if you went into something like, a Sonic Discord or subreddit it would be a different story, but as Stricker mentioned, Sonic games have also kinda slowed down. TSR came and went, and the last major, mainline game (Forces) is almost 2 years old at this point, and I believe it was mentioned that the next mainline Sonic game will be the 30th anniversary game. Something we're still about a year and a half out from, so it's not entirely unusual that we don't know anything about it other than "Sonic Team is working on something". I dunno. I guess the best analogy I have here is that, like most fandoms, Sonic is just sort of a series of hills and valleys. When we have a ton of info dumping or a major game coming out like Mania or Forces or Generations or whatever, expect a lot more buzz. But we're just kinda waiting around for the next thing currently.
  16. History repeats itself. Much like with Andrew Garfield, another trilogy that could've been dies at #2 because of Sony's own shortsighted decisions.

    1. Mil-O-Lantern

      Mil-O-Lantern

i mean, half of me absolutely understands sony being sheepish about disney wanting to shoulder the financial burden less. they just got fox (and the related marvel film rights) and had a great box office this year; and yet now they want sony to co-finance the movies (whereas under the current deal sony handles marketing/distribution while marvel studios handles production and gets 5% of the first-dollar gross). i agree with what wraith said in a previous status that they're being greedy in that context

but the fact rothman --of fox marvel fame-- is playing the role in negotiations has the other half of me just laughing

  19. That tornado is carrying all the objects that came packed in with the engine that the developers couldn't fit in elsewhere!

  20. Ooooh, SAGE is coming up soon. I wonder what SonicNEXT has in store.

  21. Sonic has only two loves: Chili dogs and adventures. The shipping wars are already annoying enough, I'd really rather they not add fuel to that fire.
  22. I'm very confused what the endgame behind the Legacy of Solaris mod is. Like, sure, it's cool what they're adding (I'm a big fan of '06's E3 huds, love 'em, love 'em, love 'em) but like...it doesn't really seem like it's really "fixing" anything? Maybe it's just the fact that I haven't played it, but it seems like the same, barely functional, frustrating game at its core, just with prettier graphics and more to do.

  23. It kills me inside that we'll never see Luke, Han and Leia reunite one last time

Unless they filmed that exact thing before Carrie Fisher died and have been saving it for this exact moment.

    1. Tangled Jack

      Tangled Jack

You know, Fisher filmed a lot of scenes for VII and VIII which will be used in IX. I'm gonna leave it at that.

    2. I Have Berry!

      I Have Berry!

I be perfectly willing for them to asspull making Han into a Force Ghost for no explained reason and without any warning if it meant fulfilling that desire.

    3. Solister

      Solister

Just thinking on this almost put me in tears, I don't think I'm prepared for Episode IX.

But Idk, Sequels have went in a totally different way from what I expected, an ok movie, a bad one and now I think I'm putting much hype for Episode IX which may end up disappoint me. I don't think it will fix all the other problems VII and VIII had, despite III did this with I and II.

But yeah, seems a very unlike scene to film Han, Leia and Luke together on Episodes VII and VIII and more unlike if Han and (Theoretically) Luke are dead.

  24. Sometimes I wonder what Sonic Boom could've been if Sega hadn't tripped and fallen flat on their face walking out the door with it

    1. Ryannumber1Scarer

      Ryannumber1Scarer

I’d like to imagine if SEGA didn’t force them to release it on Wii U and let them use the planned consoles, the game would’ve resembled a better product.

Rise of Lyric failed on two fronts that messed the show up badly - one - it was meant to be a prequel explaining Boom Sonic’s origins, and how he met the rest of the group, as well as setting up lore for the series that would’ve portrayed it more than being a comedy (If the echidna and ancient hedgehog statues are any indication).

SEGA was counter intuitive about allowing an origin game, because Sonic Team was considering a origins thing and didn’t want it dictated by a Western company, despite the fact that Boom in general was literally designed to be a radically different approach by a Western company, so what they planned shouldn’t have mattered much to Sonic Team’s.

Really, it was the shift to Wii U that killed it though. It became a meme for being as bad as 06, and that spun off into a bad showing for the TV series and comic, which was far better.

    2. Vertical Snoop [D.K.]

      Vertical Snoop [D.K.]

@Ryannumber1gamer especially hilarious seeing as it's been 5 years and still no word on that origin story that SEGA was apparently so confident in doing that they fucked up a whole sub-franchise for it

    3. Red

      Red

@Vertical Snoop [D.K.] I'm thinking they probably wanted to continue the Generations trend while hitting the reset button. The next game after Gens would have been the origin game before they decided to scrap it and make a new game nothing to do with Sonic's origins.

    4. DiamondX

      DiamondX

I wish they gave Big Red Button more liverty with Boom.  I feel like they could've made a pretty good (if not a great) game.

@Ryannumber1gamer Apparently they even had a time limit as the game had to be out by 2014. I'm not sure when they found out about this but apparently they had to crunch it to even get it out.

    5. Ryannumber1Scarer

      Ryannumber1Scarer

      @DiamondX

IIRC, there was two reasons, the Boom show, and the deal with Nintendo. SEGA wouldn't extend the deadline due to these. The unfortunate part is the project had time, and was running stupidly well on high end consoles.

Then SEGA demanded it ported to Wii U, an overhaul of the story. A game designed for PS4 and Xbox One on an engine designed specifically for those consoles had about a few months to get it ported and downgraded. It's no surprise it ended up how it did.

    6. Wraith

      Wraith

Even conceptually it was boring and uninspired. The show turned out bad too for this reason. The comic is only any good at all because of Ian.

That being said Big Red Button didn't deserve the treatment they recieved. Nobody deserves that.

    7. Soniman

      Soniman

The show wasn't bad at all perhaps because it didn't even bother with the boring origins or lore shit that the OG game tried to hamstring together and just went the self contained cartoon approach. Was it a good thing that the games, comics and show all operated on different canons? Nope. But in hindsight it worked out for the best. It's all dead now so it doesn't really matter. I'm more interested in the amount of money that Sega wasted on this venture more than anything else

    8. Dejimon11

      Dejimon11

It just would of been Jak and Daxter with sonic characters
