There's like, literally nothing to say currently unless there's the rare occasion where merch like those tops get leaked, and even then that's not worth much more than just a "Haha yeah, those do look kinda bad."

Honestly, if they were going for references for references' sake, like I very much believe they'd go the route of referencing memes, or recent titles, as those are what would resonate most with kids who's watching this with Sonic. Maybe some classic stuff with Mania...
...but going to the extent that the animators/creators of this show are doing goes beyond that level. You don't just make references to Chaotix, AoStH, and a random issue of Archie Sonic (which only would've been widely available in one country no less), or hell - go to the effort of literally frame by frame recreating the intros of the original games, right down to the exact letter of animation that is present in that promo.
I'm sorry, but it's extremely obvious that these references are being made by a group of people who actually know about the series, and enjoy it to a high degree, to go so far as to go beyond the games and extend the references to additional media like AoStH or Archie.
What I'd consider a "pandering reference towards some kids" is placing Sanic into Forces via a t-shirt. I don't consider adding things that are actually smart references that require additional knowledge of the series to get as "pandering". If you didn't know about the Death Egg arc in Archie, it'll look like a generic Sonic comic cover. If you do, it shows how much research the creators placed into making this episode.
Like using that same line of logic, you could basically use that as a black mark against Mania as well. "They're just pandering to Classic fans by putting Nack, Bean and Bark into the game via cameos". There's a pretty conclusion line of difference between pandering references for no reason, and placing in smart additional details that are designed as pure fan-service for fans of the series.
The same way you can tell from the beginning that Mania is developed by a set of passionate fans who are in love with this series and want to do it justice, you can tell that the creators of KO are big Sonic fans and also want to do it justice as well.

She was a very talented voice over artist with a huge roster and this is a great loss for animation.  Disney won't be the same for me without her.

Really? She dies and your first thought is “who’s going to replace her?” Show a bit of class.
    ...
I’ve always loved Russi, not just for her vocal work, but for her overall demeanour and personality. Whenever I saw her being interviewed, I loved hearing her soft and gentle voice, it always made me want to give her a big hug.
As many of you probably know, Russi was married to former Mickey Mouse voice actor Wayne Allwine until his passing in 2009. So now Ms Taylor is with her husband again.
Rest in piece, Russi, you wonderful lady.

That's a sort of loaded question so I hope you're ready for a sort of loaded answer:
I basically interpret this question as, "What makes a Sonic game a Sonic game?" and that's a sort of complicated subject so I hope you're ready for me to go off on a bit of a tangent: For a while, Sonic was defined by his physics and pinball like momentum. That was kinda lost with the jump to 3D, where it seemed like the high-speed thrills and spectacle became more of a priority than anything. Which, I should say isn't necessarily a bad thing, but at a certain point it gets too style over substance (or it could be Forces that had neither style nor substance) and at that point, what is there to go back to?
Gameplay is a big part of what makes this series special. There's nothing quite like Sonic out there. There are games like Freedom Planet that are close to be sure, but they miss the mark in a few ways that stop them from fitting in with games like Sonic 3 or Sonic Mania.
Sense of freedom and adventure is a big one, too. Sonic is a character I always imagined as kind of a drifter, in town one day and gone the next, always looking for the next big thrill, which lended itself well to all the different locales we see in the games which lead to a lot of unique and interesting level design and expansions on the gameplay.
Not as loaded of an answer as I thought, but there's my take anyway.

They probably realised it wasn't gonna be received like Generations.
That game was basically Generations, but worse in every conceivable metric. 4 years to make a game that is visually stagnant and mechanically worse than its direct predecessor. Just terrible.

Exactly my point. There is nothing interesting about your answer because nearly every series does the exact same thing. What differentiates sonic from anything else in that regard? At least mention something specific in regards to the characters beyond their superficial appearance that provides a unique experience.

I can't feel moved by Iizuka's words about the next Sonic game. Surely it's because there's nothing substancial to be excited about anyways, but there was a time, not long ago actually, when these simple words would spark joy and excitement from me. That was right after Sonic Generations. It felt like SEGA was going to get things right. But they found a way to release another mediocre game... But then, again, another game recaptured that joy and excitement feeling. The feeling of counting the days to get my hands on a new Sonic game. Sonic Mania. The future didn't looked too bright this time tho', because we already knew Sonic Forces was being worked on alongside Mania and it looked like yet another mediocre game. And it was mediocre. It came when Sonic Mania's success was still echoing, a 6 out 10 game released only a couple of months after "the best game in 15 years" from the same franchise. This rollercoaster is so tiresome. How can we go on? What's so hard to figure out? SEGA has right now amazing talent on their speed dial, I bet real money the Mania crew alongside new and talented blood can make not just another great 2D game, but even one great 3D game as well. Because talent and greatness won't come from working years on a lightning engine, but from understanding who are your characters and world. Understand why this franchise once was so great and fun to play. And these guys do. Iizuka and SEGA, please, realize this too. You gave permission to other studios make their Sonic games before like it wasn't one of the most iconic IPs in the history of gaming. It took you a few missteps... Dimps, BioWare, Big Red Button. But now you found the right people to do the job. Take this chance again.

That's a surefire way going back to the 2000s era of Sonic Team pumping out mostly subpar games few people outside diehards are happy with (with the rare good or terrible game coming out every now and then).
...except back in the 2000s, the Sonic brand hadn't been completely tarred to the point that the games don't sell beyond Sonic enthusiasts. Pumping out annual Sonic games might not be something Sega and Sonic brand managers can even afford to do anymore nowadays.

Sonic 1 being the first meeting between Sonic and Eggman just strikes me as a strange thing to be so strongly convicted to, if you ask me.  Even ignoring the relevancy of the manuals, I don't see why this tiny tidbit really matters.  Even if it were, it's not like you can't go the whole game pretending otherwise and vice versa.

SaturnWolf reacted to Sonic Fan J in Sonic Live Action Movie Thread (Read OP for topic rules) "Trailer 2 on Page 482)
Not to go too off topic here but two points to make.
    1) if you're going to stick to your interpretation, why ask?
    2) What marks Sonic 1 as a point of interest in the conflict of Sonic and Eggman (stated in the Japanese manual to not be their first encounter which is important since this is the story as seen by its creators) is that it is both the first time Eggman is actively looking for the Chaos Emeralds and uses animals in his machines. Of note however is that Eggman places the animals in his machines not to power them as would become the norm later on, but as active combat hostages to hamper Sonic and prevent him from going all out. It's actually one of Eggman's more sadistic actions in the franchise by using hostages as combatants. Another thing to note is also that Sonic is not from, nor lives on, South Island. He is aware of it and its inhabitants are aware of him (he is the most famous hedgehog in the world so it stands to reason that he would be known) and specifically contact him to save them from Eggman due to his reputation of stopping Eggman. So while you are free to ignore all this and consume the franchise as you see fit (especially considering a good deal of this background has been retconned in franchise even during the pre-Adventure days), at least back when it was released and the franchise was introduced to the world, Sonic 1 was not Eggman and Sonic's first encounter, but rather a first in many staples that would be a part of their continuing conflicts.
Now though, to tie things back to the movie, as I recall (really I should just go load Sonic Retro and double check) the Japanese manual states that Sonic has no idea why Eggman first started coming after him, so having Eggman as the instigator instead of Sonic is paralleled in the original Japanese version of the story.

Yeah, I'm not buying the whole "We were with you!" thing. Sure, Sonic looking less like something I'd see at the foot of my bed during an episode of sleep paralysis is nice, but that still leaves a cavalcade of unfunny jokes, dated CG, annoying, bland and dumb human characters that take center stage...the design is only the most obvious and most horrific problem that we can see from the one, single, bad trailer they put out.
The problem with the movie is the very concept. Just as a band-aid won't heal a broken arm, a simply design fix won't fix a movie that's doomed to fail. The only way to truly "fix" this movie now is to scrap everything and start over from scratch. Maybe get better writers this time.

SaturnWolf got a reaction from Supah Berry in Should SEGA replace Takashi Iizuka and Sonic Team and replace them with a new talented team?
Well see the problem with that is that's a temporary fix at best. Sonic Forces was almost entirely new people and that's one of the most divisive Sonic titles in quite some time.
The problem lies more with Sega's management than anything.
