    @Strickerx5 I don't know why you keep citing the time as if it matters. Console hardware stays roughly the same as a matter of parity for customers. What it was capable of 5 years ago is what a console will be roughly capable of now. Again, the Wii U is capable of what we saw in the tech demo.... in a single room with three characters and limited controls, AI, and physics. And they made that clear at E3.

    What people don't seem to realize is that the tech demo got away with looking that way because the Wii U literally isn't having to load in and/or calculate 99.99% of the shit that's actually available in Breath of the Wild on top of that kind of raytraced lighting and shadows. We're talking about character/enemy assets, the rigs and AI governing them, environments and buildings, the animals, items, HUDs and menus, the physics systems that pushed the game back, the clock for the day/night cycle, the weather, special effects like water, the grass that's already chugging the game from early reports. These things are a trade-off, even on systems with more power. Until we get quantum computing rolling, you can't have it all.

    Now, if the tech demo was literally an early demonstration of BotW like Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was, I could understand. But y'all are trying to compare a really well-lit room to a 300 square kilometer game world with smorgasbord of shit going on and happening within it, and it's blowing my mind that you're now claiming to have been misled or deceived about what the real Zelda game we eventually got would look like, especially since no one had any clue what Breath of the Wild was going to be at the time the demo released.

    How were they misleading? They never said that was ever going to be a full game. They made it clear to all that it was a tech demo, and the purpose of a tech demo is to showcase the potential of a system's power or a proof of concept, not a final product. No more, or less. If anyone took that to mean that the tech demo was definitely indicative of a game we had no idea about at the time, that isn't Nintendo's fault.
    Meanwhile, Watch Dogs got shit on for the same reason Alien: Colonial Marines and No Man's Sky got shit on: because they presented the actual game you would be buying as looking significantly better than it was until the downgrades were witnessed at E3.

    The same reason companies keep thinking pre-rendered CGI trailers are indicative of what any video game will actually look and play like- it's for hype and showing theoretical potential, and nothing more. Nowhere on the cut scene or demo did Nintendo ever say that "Yep, this is definitely what Breath of the Wild is going to look like," probably because all they made was a single interior room, Link, and the boss and left it at that, and I don't know about y'all but I don't want a one-room Zelda game just to get some better lighting.

    All it showed us was what the Wii U is capable of doing in a single furnished room with three characters. The final product is not comparable to what BotW has to offer, meaning it can jam pack in a bunch more rendering-intensive lighting as part of the trade-off without risk of chugging. You can't have BotW looking like that tech demo and simultaneously be BotW unless you don't mind a slideshow.

    So you basically want the Wii U to try and run raytraced lighting and reflections, along with a dynamic physics and weather system, in an open world game with foliage that already chugs the game, in a space that's over 300 square kilometers big. Alright then.
